Boxing: Anderson Silva outclasses and defeats Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Tonight we saw one of the greatest fighters in MMA history enter the boxing ring. Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva took to the squared circle as he took on former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (52-6-1). The bout was Silva’s first professional boxing match since 2005.

Heading into this matchup, little to no one was really giving Silva a chance. Silva’s UFC run ended last October when he lost by TKO to Uriah Hall. The former middleweight champion is 46 years old and went 1-7, 1 NC in his last nine fights inside the octagon. While Silva was competitive in some fights, he clearly wasn’t the same guy he used to be.

Chavez is 35 years old and is a former world champion. Yes, there have been questions about his dedication and just how good he really is, but still, he was a massive favorite in this boxing matchup. I have to admit that I really didn’t give The Spider much of a shot tonight.

However, Anderson Silva proved everyone wrong. At 46 years old, Anderson Silva completely outboxed and outclassed Julio Cesar Chavez Jr tonight. Silva rocked him several times and controlled the distance with his jab. At one point, Silva started doing his classic showboating against the ropes.

Personally, I had Silva winning the boxing match seven rounds to one. However, I was concerned about how the judging would be given the fact that it’s boxing and the fight was taking place in Chavez’s home country. One judge amazingly gave the fight to Chavez, but two got it right and Anderson Silva defeated the former world champion.

Next Boxing Matchup for Silva

Anderson Silva looked tremendous tonight in the boxing ring. His technique was great and his jab was fast. I was incredibly impressed with the performance that he put on. Now the question becomes, what’s next for Silva in terms of boxing?

Well, Silva has always expressed a desire to box former world champion Roy Jones Jr. If RJJ is interested in boxing again, that’s a matchup that I could see coming together. Another one I could see is a potential matchup between Anderson Silva and Logan Paul.

Logan Paul just had a matchup with Floyd Mayweather. I can already see the angle as he boxed the boxing GOAT and now he’s going to box the MMA GOAT. We all know that Anderson Silva would be down for that fight and he would make a ton of money doing it. Anderson Silva made the MMA community proud tonight and it won’t be the last time we see him box.

Floyd Mayweather officially retires from boxing after exhibition with Logan Paul

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Last night we saw the boxing exhibition between Floyd Mayweather (50-0) and Logan Paul (0-1). The two men stepped foot in the squared circle and went eight rounds with each other. There were a lot of big shots thrown, but no knockdowns occurred during the boxing matchup.

Logan Paul held his own, but Floyd Mayweather landed more punches throughout the exhibition. Since the fight was not officially sanctioned, there was no winner declared after the eight rounds was over. However, if there would’ve been one, Floyd Mayweather would’ve gotten the nod.

However, it was a huge moral victory for Logan Paul to have gone eight full rounds with the boxing legend. Mayweather hit Paul with some big shots throughout the night, but Logan Paul was game and never backed down.

Throughout the last week, Mayweather left the door open for more boxing matches. He even mentioned that he would be interested in another boxing matchup against former UFC champion Conor McGregor. However, Mayweather changed his tune after last night’s matchup.

Mayweather retires from Boxing

When asked about a future return to boxing, Mayweather said, “Absolutely not, I’m retired from the sport of boxing. I said this before, it’s not easy. I mean even for this fight. Train a day, take a couple of days, train a day, take a couple of days off because of the age and the wear and tear.”

With those comments, it’s safe to say that the 44 year old won’t even entertain a boxing exhibition in the future. Mayweather cashed out with a cool $100 million for his matchup with Logan Paul last night.

Last night was far from a bad night for Mayweather. He was only hit clean once or twice, but you could tell he wasn’t the same guy. The speed really wasn’t there and things were not as crisp. However, that’s to be expected when you’re 44 years old.

If a prime Floyd Mayweather was boxing last night, Logan Paul would’ve likely been finished. However, that’s not what we saw. We saw one of the greats go out there and compete in boxing, but it was clear that he’s not the same guy he used to be.

Boxing Recap: Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul go the distance

Tonight we saw the boxing match that has had the world buzzing. One of the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather (50-0), returned for an exhibition matchup against internet celebrity Logan Paul (0-1).

Floyd Mayweather hadn’t been in a boxing ring since he defeated Conor McGregor back in 2017. Mayweather retired after that matchup, but when the opportunity came up to make potentially nine figures to box Logan Paul, Mayweather couldn’t say no.

This matchup was not sanctioned and there were no judges scoring the fight. The obvious reason why this boxing matchup was not being sanctioned was due to the massive size difference.

Floyd Mayweather is 5’8 and weighed in at 155 pounds. Logan Paul is 6’2 and he weighed in at 189 pounds for this matchup. Obviously, Mayweather’s boxing pedigree speaks for itself, but the same couldn’t be said about Logan Paul entering tonight.

Paul is athletic, strong, and he’s young. However, he’s only boxed twice with only one bout being official. In that one official fight, he lost to another celebrity, KSI. The only reason why there was a maybe in the result of this boxing matchup is the size difference.

Boxing Recap

Likely 1-0 Logan Paul after one here in the boxing exhibition.

Round 2

Paul used a ton of energy at the end of the first round of this boxing matchup. More pressure from Logan Paul to start the second as he works the jab to the body of Mayweather. Mayweather comes forward with a jab up top.

The two touch gloves to start the third round of this boxing matchup. Logan Paul is drenched in sweat and he’s breathing a little heavy to start in the third. Giant whiff on big uppercut from Logan Paul. Mayweather pushing forward here .

A lot of clinching here in the third with little throwing. Mayweather works his way in and Paul misses on several more big shots. Not a lot of action going on here in the third round as Mayweather continues to push forward.

A big smile on the face of Mayweather as he lands a right hand. Massive shots to the body lands for Mayweather and Paul is looking tired. Huge counter right lands for Mayweather and a clean uppercut lands. Money is coming on strong here in the third and Logan Paul is fading. All Mayweather here in the third round of this boxing matchup.

Round 5

The second half of the fight starts and it’s all Mayweather right now. Logan Paul starts throwing his jab to start the striking here. Pressure from Mayweather and the two clinch. A 1-2 from Logan Paul hits nothing but glove. Huge left hook lands for Floyd Mayweather and Paul is against the ropes.

Two rips to the body land for Mayweather. Mayweather is pushing forward and Paul is recovering against the ropes. Mayweather takes the center and he lands a big counter right as Paul moves forward. Massive uppercut lands for Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather pushes forward and the two clinch. Uppercut lands for Mayweather. Right hand lands for Mayweather and Logan Paul looks exhausted. Lead left hook for Mayweather then more body shots. The boxing exhibition’s fifth round closes and Paul is on the ropes.

Round 6

The sixth round starts with more pressure from Money Mayweather. Paul throws a sloppy jab that misses. Left hook and right hand lands for Mayweather. Mayweather moves forward and Paul hugs him.

The two separate and Mayweather goes right back to the pressure. Logan Paul is doing nothing but clinching here in the sixth round. Mayweather is feinting, but not throwing as Logan Paul clinches him again.

Good body shot lands for Mayweather and Mayweather is working the body here. The two clinch again and there is very little action here. Good lead left hook lands for Mayweather. Pressure from Mayweather as the sixth round goes the distance.

Round 7

Entering the seventh round of this boxing exhibition and time is running out for a knockout. Logan Paul throws two jabs to start the striking here. More clinching to start the seventh round from Logan Paul.

I will say, Paul is throwing more here in the seventh as Mayweather is just defending and moving forward. Two minutes left in the round the two clinch once again without any shots landing. No shots being thrown by Mayweather in the seventh.

The two clinch again the crowd is becoming a little frustrated. A jab lands for Logan Paul and there’s 30 seconds left in the round. Mayweather moves forward, but again, he’s not throwing. The round comes to the end and it was probably the most underwhelming of the boxing exhibition.

Round 8

The crowd was booing entering the eighth round of this boxing exhibition. Mayweather plots forward and Logan Paul counters with a jab to the body. More jabs from Logan Paul in the first thirty seconds.

Mayweather pushes Paul against the ropes, but he eats a counter left hook. Good short left hook lands for Mayweather. Lots of booing from the crowd here and fans are starting to leave. The two men clinch again with less than two minutes to go.

Logan Paul blitzes and the two clinch again. The two clinch again before any punches land. One minute to go and nothing is happening, but clinching. No punches land before another clinch and more boos from the crowd. Good left hook lands for Mayweather with ten seconds left. The fight ends and there will be no winner in this one. Nothing but boos from the crowd here.

Boxing Preview: Floyd Mayweather – Logan Paul

Tomorrow night, the world will see the boxing match that has everyone buzzing. One of the greatest boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather (50-0), is returning for an exhibition matchup against internet celebrity Logan Paul (0-1).

We are in such a weird time in combat sports and this boxing matchup might be the weirdest thing that’s occurring. Nevertheless, the exhibition is going down tomorrow night and there’s a ton of heat with this matchup.

Floyd Mayweather hasn’t been in a boxing ring since he defeated Conor McGregor back in 2017. Mayweather retired after that matchup, but when the opportunity came up to make potentially nine figures to box Logan Paul, Mayweather couldn’t say no.

This matchup is not being sanctioned and there are no judges scoring the fight. With that in mind, there will be no official winner crowned in this matchup. The obvious reason why this boxing matchup is not being sanctioned is due to the massive size difference.

Floyd Mayweather is 5’8 and will weigh around 150 pounds. Logan Paul is 6’2 and will weigh around 200 pounds when these two meet in the squared circle. Obviously, Mayweather’s boxing pedigree speaks for itself, but the same can’t be said for Logan Paul.

Paul is athletic, strong, and he’s young. However, he’s only boxed twice with only one bout being official. In that one official fight, he lost to another celebrity, KSI. The only reason why there is a maybe in the result of this boxing matchup is the size difference.

Boxing Match Prediction

When it comes to the boxing match tomorrow night, I don’t know how anyone could bet on Logan Paul. That said, he doesn’t have the smallest of chances to pick up the win tomorrow. He’s going to be slower and he’s going to have far-worse technique.

That said, he will have a massive size and strength advantage in there. If Mayweather is caught slipping at all, Paul could land a haymaker that could do some serious damage. Mayweather is 44 years old and I guarantee you that Logan Paul is physically stronger than anyone he’s ever boxed.

That said, even at 44 years old, I don’t see Floyd Mayweather slipping. Mayweather is an extremely proud person and I think he’s going to have Paul throwing at air all night. I see Mayweather doing a ton of damage to Logan Paul’s body in this one.

With the size disadvantage, I’m expecting Mayweather to get in and out while working the body. He will land up top, but the body work will add up. Come the later rounds, I think Logan Paul will be tired with a beat up body and I expect Mayweather to finish the job and win the boxing match.

Prediction: Floyd Mayweather by TKO – Round 6

Dana White on Woodley – Paul boxing match: ‘Woodley should knock him out, but…’

UFC, Dana White

The world has been buzzing this week on the news that Showtime Boxing has booked Jake Paul (3-0) against former UFC champion Tyron Woodley (19-7-1). This will be the first time in his short boxing career that Jake Paul is taking on someone who can do damage.

Paul recently signed an exclusive deal with Showtime Boxing and they are immediately upping his competition. Yesterday, I said that Jake Paul deserves credit and a little respect for at least taking on someone who has a lot of power like Woodley.

Yes, he’s still not taking on someone legit in boxing. However, it would’ve been easy for Paul to take on someone with virtually no power or striking experience in his next boxing matchup. Instead, he’s taking on a former UFC champion with serious knockout power.

UFC President Dana White was asked about the boxing matchup during his appearance on Mike Swick’s Podcast this week. White made a prediction for the matchup, but he did hedge a little on that prediction.

Who will win the boxing match?

When asked to give a prediction, Dana White said, “I’d have to go with Woodley by knockout. Listen man, Woodley should knock him out. But, again, the Tyron Woodley you talk about… Isn’t the same f**kin’ guy he was four years ago.”

White also pointed out the fact that Woodley will head into this boxing matchup having lost four straight. Yes, Woodley isn’t the same guy that he was just a few years ago and he is getting up there in age.

Dana White brought up a lot of valid points about this boxing matchup. In reality, Tyron Woodley should win this, but he’s not even the betting favorite. Those lines likely play off Woodley’s losing streak and his age.

I will say that the Tyron Woodley we saw at UFC 260 was the best version of Woodley we’ve seen in a while. He was aggressive and he hurt Vicente Luque in the first round. If Woodley is calculated and aggressive, he could put Jake Paul out cold in their boxing matchup.

You can view White’s full appearance below:

Boxing: Jake Paul deserves respect for taking the Tyron Woodley fight

The boxing world was lit on fire yesterday when it was reported that Jake Paul (3-0) would be taking on former UFC champion Tyron Woodley (19-7-1) next. Paul recently signed an exclusive deal with Showtime Boxing in order to take his career to the next level.

In signing with Showtime, you had to expect the competition level would get steeper for Jake Paul. That said, I think everyone was expecting incremental steps up before taking on some really big names.

However, Jake Paul threw that strategy out the window. Paul is coming off of a first round knockout over former top MMA contender Ben Askren. Askren is known for his wrestling and he’s known as one of the worst strikers in all of MMA.

With that, there were a lot of people who were not impressed by his last boxing performance. Yes, Paul got a first round knockout. However, Askren can’t even compete with a lot of beginners in boxing.

Paul has been vocal about his desire to fight MMA fighters in a boxing ring. Fighters like Dillon Danis or even Diego Sanchez were being rumored. However, Paul decided to take a giant step forward and take on a former UFC champion with dynamite in his hands.

Boxing Respect

For the first time in his boxing career, Jake Paul is taking on someone dangerous. He’s taking on someone who can do serious damage to him inside the ring. Tyron Woodley is not Ben Askren.

Yes, Woodley has struggled mightily losing his last four fights inside the octagon. However, even just this year, Woodley showed that he’s still incredibly dangerous. In his fight against Vicente Luque, he rocked Luque and showed off his explosiveness.

I’m not a Jake Paul fan and I think he’s been incredibly disrespectful towards the MMA community. That said, he’s earned a ton of my respect in taking on this fight. Paul could fight tomato cans and make millions.

However, in fighting Woodley, he’s showing that he’s serious about boxing. He’s the betting favorite, which is crazy to me, and he’s putting everything on the line in this one. If he gets starched by Woodley, there’s no coming back.

Tyron Woodley and Jake Paul agree to boxing match

UFC, Tyrone Woodley

Jake Paul (3-0) is getting a big step up in his boxing competition. The Athletic was the first to report today that the internet celebrity turned boxer has agreed to a fight against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (19-7-1).

Paul is coming off of a first round knockout over Woodley’s teammate and close friend Ben Askren. Jake Paul also recently signed an exclusive deal with Showtime boxing. The deal between Paul and Showtime is a multi-fight deal.

When the deal was announced, it was also said that Paul’s next opponent would be announced soon. With signing with Showtime Boxing, you had to figure that Jake Paul would be getting a step up in competition.

Showtime is not going to put on shows the way that Triller did. However, Paul has seemed up for the challenge in stepping up the competition level. After his last knockout victory, there’s been a lot of back and forth between Paul and the former UFC champion, Tyron Woodley.

Woodley fought out his UFC contract a few months ago and he’s been shopping around his options. However, he’s been very vocal about his desire to get in the boxing ring opposite Jake Paul.

Boxing: Jake Paul – Tyron Woodley

This is a huge step up and a big risk if you’re Jake Paul. He’s never been in a boxing ring with someone like Tyron Woodley. Yes, Woodley is a wrestler by trade, however, he has incredible power and speed.

We are going to learn a lot about Jake Paul in this boxing match. He’s not going to go out in the first round and starch Tyron Woodley the way that he did Ben Askren. I guarantee you he’s also going to have his chin tested in this one.

We’ve never really seen Jake Paul take a punch in the boxing ring. Let alone take a punch from someone with power and skill. He’s going to eat some shots from the former UFC champion.

To be honest, I’m very surprised that Paul took this fight. I figured he might fight Woodley eventually, but I didn’t think it would be this soon. This is an event that I will  definitely be watching.

Boxing: Jake Paul signs multi-fight deal with Showtime

One of the hottest names in boxing and in combat sports has a new home. Internet celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul (3-0) has signed a new exclusive deal with Showtime Sports. Moving forward, Showtime will host Jake Paul’s future boxing matches.

ESPN’s Marc Raimondi broke the story last night that Paul had signed a deal with Showtime. Paul’s representatives confirmed the news to Raimondi and stated that they were making progress on Paul’s next opponent in the boxing ring.

Jake Paul’s adviser Nakisa Bidarian told ESPN, “Jake is proud of the events he participated in with Triller and appreciates the opportunities they afforded him. Jake is excited to continue his boxing career with Showtime Boxing. Fight announcement coming soon.”

At this time, there is no word on who the potential opponent will be for Jake Paul’s next boxing match. For the last few months, Paul has been targeting the MMA community. Back in April, he fought former world champion Ben Askren.

Paul scored a first round knockout and proceeded to call out some of the bigger names in the MMA community like Daniel Cormier. Plenty of additional MMA fighters have voiced their interest in jumping into the boxing ring with The Problem Child.

Showtime Boxing’s New Star

One thing to keep in mind about Jake Paul’s new boxing deal is the fact that Showtime also has an exclusive deal with Bellator MMA. That alone can create opportunities for Jake Paul to compete against some MMA fighters.

Bellator and Jake Paul are now exclusively on Showtime and you can imagine that Showtime execs are already brainstorming. As mentioned by Paul’s adviser, a fight announcement is coming and they are closing in an opponent.

One name to watch here would be Dillon Danis (2-0). Danis and Paul have been calling each other out for some time and Danis fights for Bellator. Perhaps Showtime executives could convince Scott Coker to let Danis participate in a boxing matchup with Jake Paul.

There have been some whispers about Diego Sanchez (30-13). However, I pray that is just talk and there’s nothing serious there. Former UFC champion Tyron Woodley (19-7-1) has been calling Jake Paul out since he became a free agent, but I can’t see Paul accepting that fight.

Jake Paul’s next boxing matchup will be against someone with MMA experience with limited striking skills. Paul can be a star for Showtime and I guarantee they don’t want to risk him losing after just inking him to a multi-fight deal. This will definitely be something to watch in the coming weeks.

UFC: Jake Paul on Daniel Cormier confrontation: ‘You had your chance and you b*tched out’

This past Saturday at UFC 261 a confrontation outside of the octagon stole some headlines. That confrontation was between the former two-division champion Daniel Cormier (22-3, 1 NC) and internet celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul (3-0 Boxing).

Cormier went over to Jake Paul and got in his face with a simple message, “Don’t play with me.” The former UFC champion is not a fan of Paul’s antics and he’s had enough of the chirping.

Yesterday, the former UFC champion told Ariel Helwani that he would drop down to 205 pounds to fight Jake Paul. However, the stipulation was that it would have to be in a mixed martial arts competition.

Today, Helwani interviewed Jake Paul about his altercation with Cormier. Paul was very vocal on how he felt about the altercation with the former UFC champion.

“Are you about your sh*t or are you not about your sh*t. Dana White wouldn’t have done anything if you wanted to lay hands on me. You had your chance and you b*tched out. It’s embarrassing and you’re an embarrassment. You’re not a man of your word.”

Jake Paul on Daniel Cormier altercation

UFC vs Jake Paul

Jake Paul went on to say that he has no interest in fighting Cormier in a MMA match. However, he would be fully willing to box him. His reasoning was that he’s never trained in MMA but Cormier has trained in striking.

With that, I think it’s safe to say we will never see Paul fight the former two-division UFC champion. Helwani went on to ask Paul about potential opponents and if he wants to fight again this year.

Paul said that he wanted to box again this year and his number once choice comes from the UFC 262 co-main event. The number one target on Jake Paul’s hit list is Stockton’s Nate Diaz (20-12).

Diaz has two fights left on his current UFC contract so the odds of that happening are extremely low. On the other hand another fighter who is no longer under contract with the UFC is Tyron Woodley (19-7-1).

The former welterweight champion is someone that Jake Paul said he’d be interested in boxing. Now, I don’t believe that Paul would actually sign up to face Woodley, but he said he’d be interested.

For now, I think the DC and Jake Paul stuff will be put behind us outside of some internet trolling from Jake Paul.

Boxing: Who will be next for Jake Paul?

Last weekend we saw the boxing match that the world has been talking about for months. Internet celebrity, Jake Paul (3-0), took on former MMA world champion, Ben Askren. This was the first legit combat sports athlete to face Paul inside the squared circle.

That said, Askren might be the worst striker in MMA history when it comes to former world champions. Askren was an Olympic level wrestler but he was never known for good striking. However, Askren was willing to step in there with Jake Paul to see exactly what he was made of.

1.5 million PPV buys and a first round knockout later showed Ben Askren that Jake Paul is insanely popular and he has quite the right hand. With a first round knockout win over Ben Askren, Jake Paul has his first legit boxing victory. However, a win over Askren is still nothing to write home about.

After the boxing match, former UFC world champion Tyron Woodley called out Paul. However, there seems to be no interest from the Paul camp in boxing the former champion. With that being said, what is the strategy for Jake Paul’s boxing career? Who will Jake Paul be fighting next?

Jake Paul’s next boxing opponent

Let’s be very clear about the fact that Jake Paul is smart. He might act like an idiot, but he’s very smart and he has some business savvy people around him. Jake Paul has dedicated his life to boxing, but he’s not good enough to jump in with legit strikers.

After three years of training, Paul can do some serious damage to guys who don’t know how to strike in the boxing ring. However, seasoned strikers would pick apart even his smallest mistakes. Jake Paul is not going to take a risky fight next and that’s important to keep in mind.

For his next venture into boxing, I expect Jake Paul to take on Dillon Danis (2-0 MMA). Danis and Paul have had a ton of verbal back and forths over the last year. Danis is a world champion in Jiu Jitsu, but he’s not known for his boxing. I think most would favor Jake Paul in that matchup.

With that said, I think Danis is the clear favorite. It’s a favorable matchup for Jake Paul and he would be boxing a legit fighter. Unlike Askren, Danis is an active mixed martial artist competing in Bellator. If Paul were to win that matchup expect his chirping to become even louder.
