Jake Paul knocks Tyron Woodley out cold in boxing match

Tonight we saw the highly anticipated rematch between Jake Paul (4-0) and Tyron Woodley (0-1 Boxing). The former UFC champion was stepping in on short notice to take on The Problem Child.

Originally, Paul was supposed to take on Tommy Fury. However, Fury had to pull out of the fight win an injury. When this happened, the Paul team got in touch with Tyron Woodley regarding the rematch.

These two originally had their boxing match back in August. For the first time in his career, Jake Paul was truly tested. In fact, Woodley was able to hurt Paul on a couple of exchanges. However, Woodley was not aggressive at all in their match.

As a result, Paul was able to score more points and won a split decision. After the matchup, Paul said he would give Woodley a rematch if he got a tattoo that said, ‘I love Jake Paul’. A request that Woodley followed through with.

However, Paul still opted for the Fury boxing match. Now, we get the rematch we thought we were going to get in the first place as Woodley is back to take on Jake Paul.

Boxing Recap

Round 1

The boxing matchup kicked off with a touch of the gloves. Paul immediately comes out and takes the center. Woodley throws a big overhand right to start his night. Jab to the body from Woodley. Paul looks for a right straight as he’s staying on the outside.

The two come together in a clinch after Woodley presses forward. Paul continues to look for shots on the outside but nothing serious is landing. Woodley again misses on a big right hand that forces a clinch.

Paul works the jab and the two end up in another clinch. Woodley continues to look for a big right hand but he’s a bit out of range. Nice jab to the body lands for Jake Paul. Paul rips a right hook to the body and the crowd is becoming restless.

Woodley pushes forward and eats another jab to the body from Paul. The two end up in another clinch and the crowd continues to boo. The first round of this boxing matchup ends and it’s a very uneventful round one.

Round 2

Second round of this boxing matchup and Paul comes out a bit more aggressive. Double jab from The Problem Child. Paul lands a big overhand right and he’s really pushing the action here in the second round. Woodley forces a clinch and they break.

Lots of booing from the crowd here and Paul answers with another combination. Jab to the body from Paul and then he chains it into a combination. Woodley lands a couple of nice shots on the inside. Another clinch and both men land body shots.

Nice 1-2 from Jake Paul before they clinch again. The two come together again but before they do, Paul lands a nice left hook. Big combination from Jake Paul and Paul is definitely getting the better of this. 2-0 Paul after two in this boxing match

Round 3

Third round of this boxing match is underway and here comes Woodley. Woodley presses forward immediately and wings some wild shots. However, nothing big lands. Paul lands a really nice combination. A cut forms on the forehead of Jake Paul after an accidental elbow.

Woodley pushing forward throwing heat now. Seems like the blood has lit a fire in Woodley. Paul staying composed here despite some adversity. Big combination from Jake Paul backs off Woodley and Paul seems to have recovered.

Woodley slowing a bit here and standing flat-footed. The two clinch and the crowd starts booing again. Nice jab lands for Paul. Woodley misses on a big straight and Paul is bleeding badly. The round ends and it’s 2-1 Paul in this boxing matchup.

Round 4

Entering the fourth round of this boxing matchup and Woodley has a lot of momentum here. Paul opens the round with a combination to try and get some back. Paul backing Woodley up here to start the fourth.

Jab to the body lands for Paul but his shots are a little wild here. Pressure from Woodley now who throws a nice uppercut. However, for Woodley it’s one and done right now with his shots. 1-2 lands for Woodley. Paul steps in and lands a nice combination.

The two come together in another clinch and Woodley picks up him and dumps him as if they were in MMA. Stiff warning from the referee here. The two go back to boxing and Woodley is being aggressive here.

Jake Paul is looking tired and the crowd is getting restless here. The round comes to a close and it’s likely even after four rounds.

Round 5

Entering the fifth round of this boxing match and neither man has had a ton of success. They both swing wild to start the fifth and they immediately clinch. The boos rain in from the crowd again. Paul pushes forward with a combination but nothing big lands.

Overhand right from Woodley is blocked and they clinch again. Nice jab from Jake Paul and the two come together again. Right now there is way more clinching than boxing and the crowd is not happy. Woodley throws a shot and they clinch again.

This is becoming hard to even watch with what we are seeing. Paul throws a jab to the body and Woodley answers with a combination. Neither man is fighting with an urgency. The round comes to a close and I honestly don’t know who’s winning this boxing matchup.

Round 6

Entering the sixth round and fans are hoping for a bit more boxing here. Jake Paul bouncing in the center and he pops a couple of jabs. Woodley stalking him here and throws a jab to the body. Paul works his way on the inside and another clinch.

They break before clinching again. Paul pushes forward and lands a nice combination. Woodley pushing forward and before he can land they clinch again. Power jab lands for Woodley but immediately they clinch after.

Overhand right from Woodley lands. Out of no where Jake Paul lands a massive right hand and Woodley is out cold. Oh my goodness.

Boxing Prediction

To me, this boxing matchup is going to come down to how aggressive Tyron Woodley is. Throughout his professional career, Woodley has been one of the more frustrating fighters to watch.

He has and has had all the tools to be one of the very best. However, sometimes he just doesn’t show up to fight. He just goes through the motions and looks incredibly flat.

That passiveness is why he lost a decision to Jake Paul back in August. Woodley is getting older and Paul is getting better at boxing every single day. If Woodley isn’t aggressive tomorrow night, he’s not going to win.

Tyron Woodley can easily win tomorrow. However, I think he’s going to be even more tentative than the first fight. I don’t know why, but I just think he’s going to be hunting for a one-punch knockout.

With that, I’m expecting Paul to rack up the points tomorrow and win another decision. I don’t see Woodley getting finished in boxing against Jake Paul, but I do expect him to lose on the cards again.

Boxing: Did Jake Paul make a mistake rematching with Tyron Woodley?

This week we learned that there was a big shakeup in the boxing world. Internet celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul was set to take on Tommy Fury on December 18th. This was the first time that Paul would be taking on another professional boxer that was also unbeaten.

Fury had to pull out of the fight this week due to medical reasons. With that, Paul needed an opponent for his December boxing match. The Paul team decided to get in touch with former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

Woodley and Paul boxed earlier this year with Paul getting the nod by decision. However, it was the first time that we’ve really seen Paul tested in the boxing ring. He took the biggest shots of his career in that fight with Woodley.

That said, Woodley did what Woodley always does and that’s be tentative. With that, Paul was able to pull away on the scorecards which allowed him to win a decision. After the fight, Paul said he’d give Woodley a rematch if he got a tattoo saying that he loves Jake Paul.

Woodley obliged and got the tattoo on his middle finger. However, Paul decided against the Woodley rematch in favor of the matchup with Fury. Well, it’s come full circle now as we will see the rematch after all.

Boxing’s Paul making a mistake?

If I learned anything from watching the first boxing match between Paul and Woodley it’s that Woodley can hurt Jake Paul. Had it not been for the ropes, Paul would have been dropped by the former UFC champion in their fight.

I think Paul had little respect for the boxing skills of Woodley. However, I think his eyes are open to the dangers now. That said, that can ultimately play to his advantage in the rematch.

When these two stand across from each other in a couple of weeks, Woodley has to be aggressive. If he’s tentative again, he’s going to lose his second consecutive boxing match to a kid that started his career on Disney Channel.

Jake Paul has boxing skill and he shouldn’t be discredited. However, Woodley has a clear path to victory here if he wants it. He has to move forward and be the aggressor. If we get the Tyron Woodley that fought Darren Till, Tyron Woodley is going to win.

However, if the same Woodley shows up that we saw box Jake Paul earlier this year, Jake Paul is getting his hand raised. Either way, color me intrigued for this rematch.

BREAKING: Boxing match between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury official for December

Showtime Boxing has officially booked a highly anticipated matchup that’s been rumored for weeks. Today in a press release, Showtime announced that Jake Paul (4-0) will be returning to the boxing ring in December and will be taking on Tommy Fury (7-0).

These two have been going back-and-forth for months and Showtime has been working on booking this matchup since early September. The boxing matchup will take place on December 18th and it’s scheduled for eight rounds.

These two were on the same card back in August. Jake Paul headlined the card against Tyron Woodley while Tommy Fury took on Anthony Taylor on the undercard. Both men picked up decision wins that night to remain undefeated.

Fury will be the first time that Jake Paul will be taking on a professional boxer. The younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury rose to fame after appearing on a reality TV show, but he’s getting more and more well-known for his boxing.

Fury has already been in three matchups in 2021 so he will be making the walk for the fourth time. There will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders and his brother Tyson has already said that the family will disown him if he loses to Jake Paul in boxing.

Jake Paul really started to take his boxing career serious this year. Yes, he had two professional fights before this year, but they were against an internet celebrity and a former NBA player. Paul started targeting MMA fighters to up his competition level.

He started out slow by taking on Ben Askren who is known for having horrific striking. Paul knocked him out in the first round back in April. Then, Paul took on the challenge of boxing former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

Woodley was the first person to ever put Paul in trouble in the ring after hitting him clean a couple of times. However, Paul was more active throughout the fight and won a split decision. Now, Paul is going to be boxing someone in the same sport who is a bigger man and is undefeated.

Will Nate Diaz leave the UFC after his next fight?

One of the biggest stars in the UFC has just one fight left on his current deal. That fighter would be Stockton’s own, Nathan Diaz (20-13). Diaz has blossomed into being one of the top earners for the promotion over the past few years.

For Diaz, the rise to stardom came when he took on Conor McGregor on short-notice. McGregor hadn’t lost in the UFC and had just captured the featherweight title at the time after knocking out Jose Aldo. Diaz stepped in for an injured Rafael Dos Anjos to take on McGregor.

After a hot start from McGregor, Diaz stopped him in the second round. The two would rematch in one of the greatest fights in UFC history. McGregor got the nod, but Diaz walked away an even bigger start than he was before.

That’s been the pattern for Diaz over the past few years. Even when he doesn’t win like his matchups with Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards, he somehow gets bigger and bigger. Simply put, Diaz has become a superstar for the UFC.

One UFC Fight Left

Currently the UFC is working on a fight for Diaz. That fight will be the final one on Diaz’s current deal and then the star will get to explore free agency for the first time in his career. The question now becomes, will he resign or walk away?

There are a lot of people who believe Diaz would walk away from the UFC. Perhaps he would walk away to chase a massive payday to box Jake Paul. That boxing match has been rumored for a while and if Diaz leaves the UFC after his next fight, I could definitely see it happening.

I don’t see any scenario where Diaz would leave for either Bellator or PFL or any other MMA promotion. It’s either the UFC or boxing for Diaz. The UFC could be holding a few aces in their pocket that could convince Diaz to stay for at least one or two more fights.

The Conor McGregor trilogy fight makes a ton of sense for next summer. McGregor will be returning from injury and it would line up perfectly after Diaz completes his contract in early 2022. The McGregor trilogy could be his first fight back.

Should he win that fight, the UFC could go then potentially pair him with a Dustin Poirier who might very well be the lightweight champion. These two have wanted to fight for years and Diaz could be an attractive opponent for Poirier.

Then there’s the BMF rematch which almost happened last year. These three fights would all be massive for Diaz and would net him a pretty penny. Would any pay more than a boxing match with Jake Paul? That remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to watch how this story plays out in the coming months.

Does Vitor Belfort have a boxing career ahead of him?

Last weekend at a Triller boxing event, we saw the return of former UFC champion Vitor Belfort (26-14). Belfort was making the transition to boxing after his career in MMA that saw him capture UFC titles in two different weight classes.

The Phenom took on former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield. Holyfield stepped up for Oscar De La Hoya who was Belfort’s original opponent. However, after being hospitalized with Covid, De La Hoya was ruled out and Holyfield stepped in.

Holyfield hadn’t been in a ring for over a decade and came into the bout at 58 years old. While Belfort is certainly past his prime, the former UFC champion is still capable of competing with younger guys in combat sports.

This freak show fight ended in the first round. It was clear that Holyfield had the reflexes of someone who was getting ready to turn 60 years old. Belfort overwhelmed him with speed and picked up the TKO win in the boxing exhibition.

Does Belfort have a boxing career ahead of him?

After the victory, Belfort made it clear that he wants to continue boxing now that his MMA career is over. Some people have thrown out the fight with Oscar De La Hoya as a possibility once The Golden Boy has fully recovered.

The former boxing champion has said that he wants to return to the ring by the end of the year. However, I’m not sure he’s going to be itching to fight Belfort after seeing the way Belfort looked in the ring.

Yes, it was against an ancient Evander Holyfield, but Belfort still had good speed and looked comfortable in the boxing ring. Other possibilities that have been thrown out are matches with the Paul brothers. Wouldn’t be shocked at all to see Belfort appear as an option for Jake Paul.

However, I don’t think that’s likely either. One interesting opponent could be Anderson Silva. Silva also appeared on the card knocking out Tito Ortiz in the first round. These two fought for the UFC middleweight title years ago with Silva picking up the knockout win. Perhaps these two could run things back in boxing.

Jake Paul issues boxing challenge to Dana White and Jorge Masivdal

Just a few weeks ago, Jake Paul (4-0) won a boxing match against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. It was the first time that Paul was in the ring against someone who could actually do damage against him.

In fact, it was the first time in Paul’s boxing career that we actually saw him in trouble. At one point in the match, Woodley appeared to have rocked Paul. However, the tentative style of Woodley ultimately cost him on the scorecards.

This past weekend, Triller put on a boxing event where Anderson Silva (34-11, 1 NC MMA) knocked out Tito Ortiz in the first round. It was Silva’s second appearance in the boxing ring this year following his victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in June.

After The Contender Series this week, Dana White was asked by the media his thoughts on Jake Paul as well as Anderson Silva. White made it clear that he doesn’t believe that Paul will call out The Spider for his next matchup.

Paul’s Boxing Callout

The UFC President pointed to the fact that Anderson Silva is Jake Paul’s size and he pointed to the fact that he’s actually good at boxing when speaking to the media. Jake Paul has seemingly agreed with White in that he’s not interested in boxing Anderson Silva next.

Instead, Paul is focused on guys who are on the UFC roster. Most notably, Jake Paul wants a shot at the UFC’s BMF, Jorge Masvidal (35-15). Masvidal is coming off of a failed attempt to become welterweight champion back in April.

Gamebred has made it known that he wants to having a boxing match with Jake Paul after some recent back-and-forth over social media. However, White reiterated the fact that Masvidal is under contract with the UFC so it wouldn’t happen.

Paul challenged White and Masvidal over Twitter. A tweet that is likely not going to draw a response from the UFC President. In reality, Jake Paul’s next opponent likely won’t have anything to do with the UFC.

I can’t see him taking a fight with Anderson Silva and I also don’t see him getting Masvidal next. In actuality, Jake Paul is likely going to be boxing Tommy Fury next. If he gets through that one, then perhaps we see another UFC guy take him on.

What’s next for Anderson Silva in boxing?

This past Saturday at Triller’s Boxing event, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (34-11, 1 NC) made his second appearance in the ring in 2021. Silva took on former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (21-12-1) in boxing.

While this was Ortiz’s first boxing matchup, it was Silva’s second of the year. Just months ago, Silva took on former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a matchup in Mexico.

Despite Silva’s credentials as a striker, not many were giving him a chance against Chavez. However, Silva shocked everyone and put on a clinic over their eight round matchup on his way to winning a decision.

Given Silva’s experience in striking, nobody was giving Tito Ortiz a shot on Saturday night. It was apparent from the opening seconds that there was not going to be a surprise in this matchup.

Ortiz was incredibly aggressive out of the gate and backed Silva against the ropes. Silva easily dodged Ortiz’s attacks and Ortiz’s punches were coming slow. Silva then exploded with a huge right hand and follow up shot that put Ortiz out cold and gave Silva his second boxing win of 2021.

What’s next for Silva in boxing?

It’s worth noting that all of the Triller fights were ruled as exhibitions so Silva’s win won’t count on his professional boxing record. Had it counted, Silva would have advanced to a 3-1 record with two knockouts.

His lone loss in boxing came back in 1998  when he made his boxing debut. Silva has looked sensational through two fights and it has many people wondering who would be next for The Spider.

Well, there’s two opponents that are perfect for Silva. Those two opponents would be either Logan Paul (0-1) or Jake Paul (4-0). Both Paul brothers are around 190 pounds which puts them right around the same size as Silva.

There was actually some talk about a boxing match between Logan Paul and Silva following Paul’s exhibition with Floyd Mayweather, however, that fell through. Jake Paul just defeated former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley a couple of weeks ago.

To me, Silva – Jake Paul is the fight to make. Paul is now a perfect 4-0 with a win over a former UFC champion. Silva would be a massive step up for him in competition, but I’m not sure if he’d take the fight. Instead, Paul seems to be focused on Tommy Fury and Jorge Masvidal.

Rematch with Woodley or boxing someone else? What’s next for Jake Paul?

Over the weekend we saw a boxing match between Jake Paul (4-0) and former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (0-1). This was the first time that Paul was taking on someone who could actually hurt him in the ring.

Paul has completely changed his career and focused on boxing after building his brand on the internet. After he started out fighting non-fighters, in 2021, Paul has turned his attention to boxing mixed martial artists.

He started with Ben Askren earlier this year. Askren is a former world champion but was never known for his striking. In fact, he’s known for having some of the worst striking in all of MMA. Paul knocked him out in the first round.

Askren’s teammate, Tyron Woodley, was in his corner that night. Woodley and Paul started going back and forth. Woodley is someone who possesses knockout power and the striking speed to challenge Paul. To the surprise of many, a boxing match between the two was booked.

Woodley was the first person to really push Paul. You could tell throughout the boxing match on Saturday that Paul was more tentative. In the fourth round, the ropes saved Paul from getting dropped. However, Paul was effective in his boxing and ultimately secured a decision win.

What’s next for Jake Paul in boxing?

Tyron Woodley has come out after the boxing match and has been demanding an immediate rematch. Paul said that he would rematch Woodley if the former UFC champion got a tattoo saying, “I love Jake Paul.”

Woodley said he would, but I’m not sure either is happening. Paul sent out a cryptic tweet yesterday saying he was retired. I don’t believe that Jake Paul is retired from boxing and I do believe we are going to see him back in the ring.

That said, I don’t think it will be against Woodley and I think we will see a little break in between fights. Paul was rocked for the first time in his career and he looked to be having some conditioning issues in this last fight.

It was a learning experience for him and I think he will get better. Have to give Jake Paul credit and say what you want, but the kid knows enough about boxing to be effective. I’m not sure who’s next for him, but it’s not going to be a big step up in competition. Tommy Fury is still a name to watch out for.

Tyron Woodley wants immediate rematch after losing boxing match to Jake Paul

Last night we finally got to see the boxing matchup that the world was waiting on. Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (0-1) made his debut in the boxing ring against celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul (4-0).

For the first time, we were going to see Paul tested against someone who can actually throw a punch. Through Paul’s first three matchups he took on a guy from the internet, a former NBA player and a former MMA champion.

He’s taken incremental steps up in competition along the way, but it’s worth noting that the MMA champion he fought was Ben Askren. Askren had arguably the worst striking of all time for a guy that won a world title in MMA.

Tyron Woodley was different. While Woodley’s base MMA skill is wrestling, the former champion knows how to throw and throw with power. Woodley’s biggest knock is his unwillingness to pull the trigger. He needed to be aggressive to win this boxing match with Jake Paul.

In spots last night, we saw Woodley get aggressive. The former champion rocked Paul in the fourth round and had it not been for the ropes, Paul would’ve been knocked down. However, the inactivity and gaps in time between big shots cost him the fight.

Will Woodley and Paul be boxing again?

Jake Paul wasn’t able to knock out Tyron Woodley, but he was able to outpoint him. Paul was effective given the way Woodley fought him and ultimately two of the three judges gave Paul the split decision victory.

Let me be clear, I didn’t think the boxing match should’ve been a split decision. Coming from someone who is the furthest thing from a Jake Paul fan, I can admit that I thought he won five or six rounds pretty clearly last night.

Woodley moved forward a lot, but in the art of boxing, he didn’t do nearly enough to win. I can see more of an argument to give Paul seven rounds than giving the fight to Tyron Woodley.

Woodley was adamant that he believed he won the fight. After the event, Woodley called for an immediate rematch. Paul seemed hesitant but said that if Woodley got a ‘I love Jake Paul’ tattoo, he’d do it. Woodley immediately agreed to the stipulation.

I’m not sure what the boxing event did in terms of PPV numbers, but I can promise you the rematch would do worse. Paul got the win and he should move on from here. He needs to look for ways to improve and look for that next step up in competition.

Woodley had his chance but his downfall is what it’s always been. He seemed stuck in neutral throughout the fight. Sure there were moments where he moved down hill, but for the most part, he was boxing at a neutral pace. I don’t see the rematch going any different.
