Jake Paul knocks Tyron Woodley out cold in boxing match

Tonight we saw the highly anticipated rematch between Jake Paul (4-0) and Tyron Woodley (0-1 Boxing). The former UFC champion was stepping in on short notice to take on The Problem Child.

Originally, Paul was supposed to take on Tommy Fury. However, Fury had to pull out of the fight win an injury. When this happened, the Paul team got in touch with Tyron Woodley regarding the rematch.

These two originally had their boxing match back in August. For the first time in his career, Jake Paul was truly tested. In fact, Woodley was able to hurt Paul on a couple of exchanges. However, Woodley was not aggressive at all in their match.

As a result, Paul was able to score more points and won a split decision. After the matchup, Paul said he would give Woodley a rematch if he got a tattoo that said, ‘I love Jake Paul’. A request that Woodley followed through with.

However, Paul still opted for the Fury boxing match. Now, we get the rematch we thought we were going to get in the first place as Woodley is back to take on Jake Paul.

Boxing Recap

Round 1

The boxing matchup kicked off with a touch of the gloves. Paul immediately comes out and takes the center. Woodley throws a big overhand right to start his night. Jab to the body from Woodley. Paul looks for a right straight as he’s staying on the outside.

The two come together in a clinch after Woodley presses forward. Paul continues to look for shots on the outside but nothing serious is landing. Woodley again misses on a big right hand that forces a clinch.

Paul works the jab and the two end up in another clinch. Woodley continues to look for a big right hand but he’s a bit out of range. Nice jab to the body lands for Jake Paul. Paul rips a right hook to the body and the crowd is becoming restless.

Woodley pushes forward and eats another jab to the body from Paul. The two end up in another clinch and the crowd continues to boo. The first round of this boxing matchup ends and it’s a very uneventful round one.

Round 2

Second round of this boxing matchup and Paul comes out a bit more aggressive. Double jab from The Problem Child. Paul lands a big overhand right and he’s really pushing the action here in the second round. Woodley forces a clinch and they break.

Lots of booing from the crowd here and Paul answers with another combination. Jab to the body from Paul and then he chains it into a combination. Woodley lands a couple of nice shots on the inside. Another clinch and both men land body shots.

Nice 1-2 from Jake Paul before they clinch again. The two come together again but before they do, Paul lands a nice left hook. Big combination from Jake Paul and Paul is definitely getting the better of this. 2-0 Paul after two in this boxing match

Round 3

Third round of this boxing match is underway and here comes Woodley. Woodley presses forward immediately and wings some wild shots. However, nothing big lands. Paul lands a really nice combination. A cut forms on the forehead of Jake Paul after an accidental elbow.

Woodley pushing forward throwing heat now. Seems like the blood has lit a fire in Woodley. Paul staying composed here despite some adversity. Big combination from Jake Paul backs off Woodley and Paul seems to have recovered.

Woodley slowing a bit here and standing flat-footed. The two clinch and the crowd starts booing again. Nice jab lands for Paul. Woodley misses on a big straight and Paul is bleeding badly. The round ends and it’s 2-1 Paul in this boxing matchup.

Round 4

Entering the fourth round of this boxing matchup and Woodley has a lot of momentum here. Paul opens the round with a combination to try and get some back. Paul backing Woodley up here to start the fourth.

Jab to the body lands for Paul but his shots are a little wild here. Pressure from Woodley now who throws a nice uppercut. However, for Woodley it’s one and done right now with his shots. 1-2 lands for Woodley. Paul steps in and lands a nice combination.

The two come together in another clinch and Woodley picks up him and dumps him as if they were in MMA. Stiff warning from the referee here. The two go back to boxing and Woodley is being aggressive here.

Jake Paul is looking tired and the crowd is getting restless here. The round comes to a close and it’s likely even after four rounds.

Round 5

Entering the fifth round of this boxing match and neither man has had a ton of success. They both swing wild to start the fifth and they immediately clinch. The boos rain in from the crowd again. Paul pushes forward with a combination but nothing big lands.

Overhand right from Woodley is blocked and they clinch again. Nice jab from Jake Paul and the two come together again. Right now there is way more clinching than boxing and the crowd is not happy. Woodley throws a shot and they clinch again.

This is becoming hard to even watch with what we are seeing. Paul throws a jab to the body and Woodley answers with a combination. Neither man is fighting with an urgency. The round comes to a close and I honestly don’t know who’s winning this boxing matchup.

Round 6

Entering the sixth round and fans are hoping for a bit more boxing here. Jake Paul bouncing in the center and he pops a couple of jabs. Woodley stalking him here and throws a jab to the body. Paul works his way on the inside and another clinch.

They break before clinching again. Paul pushes forward and lands a nice combination. Woodley pushing forward and before he can land they clinch again. Power jab lands for Woodley but immediately they clinch after.

Overhand right from Woodley lands. Out of no where Jake Paul lands a massive right hand and Woodley is out cold. Oh my goodness.

Boxing Prediction

To me, this boxing matchup is going to come down to how aggressive Tyron Woodley is. Throughout his professional career, Woodley has been one of the more frustrating fighters to watch.

He has and has had all the tools to be one of the very best. However, sometimes he just doesn’t show up to fight. He just goes through the motions and looks incredibly flat.

That passiveness is why he lost a decision to Jake Paul back in August. Woodley is getting older and Paul is getting better at boxing every single day. If Woodley isn’t aggressive tomorrow night, he’s not going to win.

Tyron Woodley can easily win tomorrow. However, I think he’s going to be even more tentative than the first fight. I don’t know why, but I just think he’s going to be hunting for a one-punch knockout.

With that, I’m expecting Paul to rack up the points tomorrow and win another decision. I don’t see Woodley getting finished in boxing against Jake Paul, but I do expect him to lose on the cards again.

Boxing: Did Jake Paul make a mistake rematching with Tyron Woodley?

This week we learned that there was a big shakeup in the boxing world. Internet celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul was set to take on Tommy Fury on December 18th. This was the first time that Paul would be taking on another professional boxer that was also unbeaten.

Fury had to pull out of the fight this week due to medical reasons. With that, Paul needed an opponent for his December boxing match. The Paul team decided to get in touch with former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

Woodley and Paul boxed earlier this year with Paul getting the nod by decision. However, it was the first time that we’ve really seen Paul tested in the boxing ring. He took the biggest shots of his career in that fight with Woodley.

That said, Woodley did what Woodley always does and that’s be tentative. With that, Paul was able to pull away on the scorecards which allowed him to win a decision. After the fight, Paul said he’d give Woodley a rematch if he got a tattoo saying that he loves Jake Paul.

Woodley obliged and got the tattoo on his middle finger. However, Paul decided against the Woodley rematch in favor of the matchup with Fury. Well, it’s come full circle now as we will see the rematch after all.

Boxing’s Paul making a mistake?

If I learned anything from watching the first boxing match between Paul and Woodley it’s that Woodley can hurt Jake Paul. Had it not been for the ropes, Paul would have been dropped by the former UFC champion in their fight.

I think Paul had little respect for the boxing skills of Woodley. However, I think his eyes are open to the dangers now. That said, that can ultimately play to his advantage in the rematch.

When these two stand across from each other in a couple of weeks, Woodley has to be aggressive. If he’s tentative again, he’s going to lose his second consecutive boxing match to a kid that started his career on Disney Channel.

Jake Paul has boxing skill and he shouldn’t be discredited. However, Woodley has a clear path to victory here if he wants it. He has to move forward and be the aggressor. If we get the Tyron Woodley that fought Darren Till, Tyron Woodley is going to win.

However, if the same Woodley shows up that we saw box Jake Paul earlier this year, Jake Paul is getting his hand raised. Either way, color me intrigued for this rematch.

Over the weekend we saw a boxing match between Jake Paul (4-0) and former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (0-1). This was the first time that Paul was taking on someone who could actually hurt him in the ring.

Paul has completely changed his career and focused on boxing after building his brand on the internet. After he started out fighting non-fighters, in 2021, Paul has turned his attention to boxing mixed martial artists.

He started with Ben Askren earlier this year. Askren is a former world champion but was never known for his striking. In fact, he’s known for having some of the worst striking in all of MMA. Paul knocked him out in the first round.

Askren’s teammate, Tyron Woodley, was in his corner that night. Woodley and Paul started going back and forth. Woodley is someone who possesses knockout power and the striking speed to challenge Paul. To the surprise of many, a boxing match between the two was booked.

Woodley was the first person to really push Paul. You could tell throughout the boxing match on Saturday that Paul was more tentative. In the fourth round, the ropes saved Paul from getting dropped. However, Paul was effective in his boxing and ultimately secured a decision win.

What’s next for Jake Paul in boxing?

Tyron Woodley has come out after the boxing match and has been demanding an immediate rematch. Paul said that he would rematch Woodley if the former UFC champion got a tattoo saying, “I love Jake Paul.”

Woodley said he would, but I’m not sure either is happening. Paul sent out a cryptic tweet yesterday saying he was retired. I don’t believe that Jake Paul is retired from boxing and I do believe we are going to see him back in the ring.

That said, I don’t think it will be against Woodley and I think we will see a little break in between fights. Paul was rocked for the first time in his career and he looked to be having some conditioning issues in this last fight.

It was a learning experience for him and I think he will get better. Have to give Jake Paul credit and say what you want, but the kid knows enough about boxing to be effective. I’m not sure who’s next for him, but it’s not going to be a big step up in competition. Tommy Fury is still a name to watch out for.

Tyron Woodley wants immediate rematch after losing boxing match to Jake Paul

Last night we finally got to see the boxing matchup that the world was waiting on. Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (0-1) made his debut in the boxing ring against celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul (4-0).

For the first time, we were going to see Paul tested against someone who can actually throw a punch. Through Paul’s first three matchups he took on a guy from the internet, a former NBA player and a former MMA champion.

He’s taken incremental steps up in competition along the way, but it’s worth noting that the MMA champion he fought was Ben Askren. Askren had arguably the worst striking of all time for a guy that won a world title in MMA.

Tyron Woodley was different. While Woodley’s base MMA skill is wrestling, the former champion knows how to throw and throw with power. Woodley’s biggest knock is his unwillingness to pull the trigger. He needed to be aggressive to win this boxing match with Jake Paul.

In spots last night, we saw Woodley get aggressive. The former champion rocked Paul in the fourth round and had it not been for the ropes, Paul would’ve been knocked down. However, the inactivity and gaps in time between big shots cost him the fight.

Will Woodley and Paul be boxing again?

Jake Paul wasn’t able to knock out Tyron Woodley, but he was able to outpoint him. Paul was effective given the way Woodley fought him and ultimately two of the three judges gave Paul the split decision victory.

Let me be clear, I didn’t think the boxing match should’ve been a split decision. Coming from someone who is the furthest thing from a Jake Paul fan, I can admit that I thought he won five or six rounds pretty clearly last night.

Woodley moved forward a lot, but in the art of boxing, he didn’t do nearly enough to win. I can see more of an argument to give Paul seven rounds than giving the fight to Tyron Woodley.

Woodley was adamant that he believed he won the fight. After the event, Woodley called for an immediate rematch. Paul seemed hesitant but said that if Woodley got a ‘I love Jake Paul’ tattoo, he’d do it. Woodley immediately agreed to the stipulation.

I’m not sure what the boxing event did in terms of PPV numbers, but I can promise you the rematch would do worse. Paul got the win and he should move on from here. He needs to look for ways to improve and look for that next step up in competition.

Woodley had his chance but his downfall is what it’s always been. He seemed stuck in neutral throughout the fight. Sure there were moments where he moved down hill, but for the most part, he was boxing at a neutral pace. I don’t see the rematch going any different.

This was Woodley’s first professional boxing match. The former UFC welterweight champion fought out his contract earlier this year when he fought Vicente Luque in March. Woodley lost the fight to Luque which was his fourth consecutive loss.

At the beginning of 2019, Woodley was building his legacy as one of the greatest welterweights of all time. Then he lost his title and proceeded to finish out his UFC career having lost four fights in a row.

Jake Paul made his professional boxing debut in 2020 when he fought another YouTuber. From there, he’s made incremental steps up in competition. He’s fought a YouTuber, a former NBA player, and a former MMA world champion.

That champion was Tyron Woodley’s close friend Ben Askren. Askren and Paul had a boxing match in April and it didn’t go well for Askren. Jake Paul knocked him out in the first round. The seed was planted that night for a Paul and Woodley boxing match.

Round 1

The boxing match started off with no touch of the gloves as Jake Paul was all business. Woodley opens the fight with a big right hand that misses the mark. T-Wood holding the center as Paul circles on the outside.

Jab to the body lands for Woodley. Paul steps forward with a nice right to the body. Jake Paul looks for a lead left hook that just misses the mark. Both men looking patient here halfway through the opening frame.

Double jab lands for Jake Paul. Paul back to work with the jab and he goes high and low with it. Nice combination from Paul who goes to the body then up top. Woodley looking a little tentative here in his boxing debut. The round comes to a close and it’s 1-0 Jake Paul after one.

Round 2

Entering the second round, I’m expecting to see Woodley be a little more aggressive here with his boxing. Woodley opens with a combination, but nothing big lands. Paul wings a big right hand that’s blocked by Woodley.

Woodley looks a little more aggressive here in the second as he’s chasing Paul down. Nice jab lands for Paul. Lead left hook finds it’s home for Jake Paul and Woodley counters with a straight to the body. Nice jab from T-Wood lands and Paul counters with a body shot.

Paul working exclusively off his jab in the final minute of the second round. Good combination from Jake Paul who lands up top and to the body. Woodley trying to get more aggressive, but nothing big landing. Two rounds into this boxing matchup and it’s 2-0 Jake Paul.

Round 3

Entering the third round and so far, Woodley hasn’t looked great in his boxing debut. Nice 1-2 lands for Jake Paul to start the action in the third. Woodley lands a nice 1-2 and he follows it up with a pretty good right hand over the top.

Paul counters with his own combination. Both men land counter left hooks as Paul circles on the outside. Woodley looking much more aggressive, but he’s appearing a bit frustrated in the third. Paul looks for a big uppercut and it just misses the mark.

Final minute here in the third round of this boxing match and it just appears that Jake Paul is a slight step ahead of T-Wood. Woodley lands a right hand just as the bell sounds. Much better third round for Woodley, but it’s still likely Jake Paul’s round.

Round 4

The punch Woodley landed at the end of the round was his biggest one of the fight. As we enter the fourth, Woodley is looking a little angry in his approach. Both men throwing with more power here to start the fourth round.

Lead left hook lands for Woodley and Paul counters with a combination. Nice body shot lands for Jake Paul. Beautiful combination lands for Paul who goes to the body then finishes with a nice left hook. Woodley plotting forward and tries to land a big shot along the ropes.

Big right hand for Woodley hurts Jake Paul. The ropes saved him from a knockdown there and Woodley is stalking him. Uppercut for Woodley lands and Woodley is going for it here. The bell sounds and the momentum has shifted here in this boxing matchup.

Round 5

Entering the fifth round of this boxing matchup and Woodley immediately takes the center and throws a big body shot. Paul opens with a double jab, but Woodley lands a big combination. Nice counter combo lands for Jake Paul that backs Woodley up.

Jab to the body lands for Paul and Woodley plots forward. Straight right hand lands for Woodley. The pace of Woodley slows as he tries to settles in. Paul circles on the outside but neither man is throwing much here.

Nice left hook lands for Paul and Woodley is talking to him here. Good jab lands for Jake Paul and Paul wings a big right hand that just misses. Another good combination lands from Jake Paul.

Round 6

Entering the sixth round and Woodley needs to regain momentum here in this boxing match. Woodley takes the center to start the sixth. He pushes Paul up against the ropes, but nothing big lands for either man in the exchange.

Jab and a right to the body lands for Jake Paul. Woodley reverting back to not being very aggressive here in the sixth and Paul is pulling away. Good combination lands for Jake Paul and a nice right hand follows it. Woodley not throwing anything here in the sixth round.

Paul pushes forward with a combination that just misses. Woodley is pressuring, but he’s not throwing and he eats a left hook and right straight from Paul. The round comes to a close and it’s another one for Jake Paul who is winning this boxing match 5-1.

Round 7

Woodley’s only hope to win this boxing match is a knockout as we enter the seventh. He opens with a right hand, but it misses the mark and the two clinch. Double jab from Jake Paul. Another jab lands for Paul. 1-2 from Woodley just misses the mark and Paul tries to counter but misses wildly.

Good check left hook from Woodley and both men exchange big shots after. Woodley looking better here in the seventh as he’s actually throwing, but he’s not landing the bombs he needs. Jab to the body from Jake Paul.

Another jab from Paul lands as Woodley tries to make his way on the inside. Nice left hand for Paul and he follows with another body shot. Big right hand lands for Paul and the round comes to a close. Entering the final round and Woodley has only won one round of this boxing match.

Round 8

Entering the final round and Woodley is going to need a miracle. Paul looking loose to start the final frame. Woodley tries to work his way in with his jab. Power shots thrown by both men but nothing big lands.

Good overhand right hand lands for Jake Paul. Halfway through the final frame and Woodley is looking for an opening. Big jab lands for Jake Paul. One minute left and Woodley is not doing enough here in the final round.

Paul eats a 1-2 from Woodley, but not a lot of sting on it. Good right straight for Woodley and Woodley is at least trying. Final ten seconds and Woodley throws a big shot that misses the mark as the final bell sounds. Jake Paul should get the victory here easily.

Boxing Preview: Who will win?

Part of me is still amazed that this boxing match is actually going to happen. When breaking down the fight, there are a number of different things to consider. One thing to consider is the fact that this is a pure boxing match.

Tyron Woodley has some highlight reel knockouts in the UFC. He definitely has power in his hands, but he’s not going to be able to use any form or wrestling tonight. In the UFC, Woodley’s hands looked even better than they were due to the fact that his opponents had to think about takedowns.

Jake Paul doesn’t have to think about that. All Jake Paul has to think about is the boxing skills of Tyron Woodley. Say what you want about Jake Paul, but the kid does have some pretty decent skills on the feet and he packs a helluva punch.

He’s also younger and bigger than Tyron Woodley. Paul is also dedicated his life to his boxing career and you know that he’s going to come prepared for battle tonight. That said, I just can’t pick against Tyron Woodley in this one.

At the end of the day, we’ve never seen Jake Paul in there with someone that can hurt him. Woodley can hurt him and hurt him badly. Jake Paul might pass this boxing test with flying colors, but I’m going to have to see it to believe it. My prediction is that Tyron Woodley emphatically ends that Jake Paul drama tonight.

Jake Paul wants a boxing match with Jorge Masvidal

This weekend the combat sports world will turn their attention to the boxing ring. On Sunday night, Jake Paul (3-0) is back as he’s taking on former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (19-7-1 MMA) in the main event of a Showtime Boxing card.

This is a big step up in competition for Jake Paul. Paul first fought a fellow YouTuber in Ali Gib back in January of 2020 in his pro boxing debut. That night, Paul scored a first round knockout.

He then fought in November of last year when he took on former NBA player Nate Robinson. This fight went into the second round, but the result was the same. Jake Paul faceplanted Robinson to score the second round knockout.

From there, Jake Paul turned his attention to boxing MMA fighters. After calling out a number of fighters, Paul settled on a boxing match with former MMA world champion Ben Askren. Askren of course is known for his wrestling and not his striking.

Jake Paul knocked Askren out in the first round and showed the world he can knock out real fighters too. Now, he’s taking on a serious threat in Tyron Woodley. For the first time, Jake Paul is boxing someone who can legitimately hurt him.

Boxing Masvidal Next?

Even with a dangerous opponent in front of him, Jake Paul isn’t skipping a beat on calling people out. Now, he’s turned his attention to a UFC fighter that he was once seemingly friends with. That fighter is the UFC’s BMF, Jorge Masvidal (35-15).

Paul trained a little with Masvidal before the Askren fight and the two spent some time together. That said, Masvidal came out recently and told Ariel Helwani that he believes Woodley will knock out Jake Paul in the boxing ring.

Jake Paul didn’t take kindly to these comments. In a media scrum yesterday, Paul turned his attacks towards Jorge Masvidal. Paul said, “Anyone here listen to a Masvidal interview and go, ‘Wow that guys intellectual!’… I don’t think anyone says that. He’s a street fighter gangster who got knocked the f–k out in his last fight so maybe he’s losing some brain cells.”

When asked about a potential boxing match with Masvidal, Paul said, “I would love to fight Masvidal. I think it could very much so happen.” Masvidal responded on Twitter saying, “I guess this means you’ll stop hitting me up now on social media to hang out and train. Don’t worry about me you got a handful of problems coming your way.”

Would you want to see Masvidal in the boxing ring against Jake Paul? Sounds like it could happen down the line if Paul wins this weekend.

Dana White on Woodley – Paul boxing match: ‘Woodley should knock him out, but…’

The world has been buzzing this week on the news that Showtime Boxing has booked Jake Paul (3-0) against former UFC champion Tyron Woodley (19-7-1). This will be the first time in his short boxing career that Jake Paul is taking on someone who can do damage.

Paul recently signed an exclusive deal with Showtime Boxing and they are immediately upping his competition. Yesterday, I said that Jake Paul deserves credit and a little respect for at least taking on someone who has a lot of power like Woodley.

Yes, he’s still not taking on someone legit in boxing. However, it would’ve been easy for Paul to take on someone with virtually no power or striking experience in his next boxing matchup. Instead, he’s taking on a former UFC champion with serious knockout power.

UFC President Dana White was asked about the boxing matchup during his appearance on Mike Swick’s Podcast this week. White made a prediction for the matchup, but he did hedge a little on that prediction.

Who will win the boxing match?

When asked to give a prediction, Dana White said, “I’d have to go with Woodley by knockout. Listen man, Woodley should knock him out. But, again, the Tyron Woodley you talk about… Isn’t the same f**kin’ guy he was four years ago.”

White also pointed out the fact that Woodley will head into this boxing matchup having lost four straight. Yes, Woodley isn’t the same guy that he was just a few years ago and he is getting up there in age.

Dana White brought up a lot of valid points about this boxing matchup. In reality, Tyron Woodley should win this, but he’s not even the betting favorite. Those lines likely play off Woodley’s losing streak and his age.

I will say that the Tyron Woodley we saw at UFC 260 was the best version of Woodley we’ve seen in a while. He was aggressive and he hurt Vicente Luque in the first round. If Woodley is calculated and aggressive, he could put Jake Paul out cold in their boxing matchup.

Boxing: Jake Paul deserves respect for taking the Tyron Woodley fight

The boxing world was lit on fire yesterday when it was reported that Jake Paul (3-0) would be taking on former UFC champion Tyron Woodley (19-7-1) next. Paul recently signed an exclusive deal with Showtime Boxing in order to take his career to the next level.

In signing with Showtime, you had to expect the competition level would get steeper for Jake Paul. That said, I think everyone was expecting incremental steps up before taking on some really big names.

However, Jake Paul threw that strategy out the window. Paul is coming off of a first round knockout over former top MMA contender Ben Askren. Askren is known for his wrestling and he’s known as one of the worst strikers in all of MMA.

With that, there were a lot of people who were not impressed by his last boxing performance. Yes, Paul got a first round knockout. However, Askren can’t even compete with a lot of beginners in boxing.

Paul has been vocal about his desire to fight MMA fighters in a boxing ring. Fighters like Dillon Danis or even Diego Sanchez were being rumored. However, Paul decided to take a giant step forward and take on a former UFC champion with dynamite in his hands.

Boxing Respect

For the first time in his boxing career, Jake Paul is taking on someone dangerous. He’s taking on someone who can do serious damage to him inside the ring. Tyron Woodley is not Ben Askren.

Yes, Woodley has struggled mightily losing his last four fights inside the octagon. However, even just this year, Woodley showed that he’s still incredibly dangerous. In his fight against Vicente Luque, he rocked Luque and showed off his explosiveness.

I’m not a Jake Paul fan and I think he’s been incredibly disrespectful towards the MMA community. That said, he’s earned a ton of my respect in taking on this fight. Paul could fight tomato cans and make millions.

However, in fighting Woodley, he’s showing that he’s serious about boxing. He’s the betting favorite, which is crazy to me, and he’s putting everything on the line in this one. If he gets starched by Woodley, there’s no coming back.
