Here’s Who The Giants Can Grab After Andrew Norwell Deal Fell Through

The New York Giants lost a bidding war for All-Pro guard Andrew Norwell early on Tuesday to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jags will be dishing out $66.5 million over five-years, with $30 million fully guaranteed. With no state-income tax in Florida, the Giants were far off from locking down the prized guard. And in the end, it might have been for the best. Allocating that much money to a guard would have been obscene, especially with only $20 million in cap-space to work with.

Here’s who the Giants can grab instead:

On the second-tier market, the Giants could always re-sign Justin Pugh, who is versatile and would likely garner around $10 million per-season. That’s three-million less than Norwell would have earned.

Additionally, they can re-sign right-guard D.J. Fluker for somewhere in the $4-5 million range. That’s two quality lineman for nearly the price of one ‘great’ one.

Another scenario would be to sign left-tackle Nate solder from the Patriots for around $10 million and Fluker as well. The Giants still have their choice of offensive lineman on the market, but the loss of Norwell will surely be felt. His choosing of a playoff-ready team was likely the deciding factor in his destination.

I wouldn’t rule out a potential Josh Sitton signing for the Giants either. At 32 years-old, the Bears guard has been one of the best in the league for the past decade. Guards can play into their mid-30’s, so I would certainly be willing to take a flier on him for $7-8 million per-year.

This would buy us enough time to address the position in the draft and/or develop a younger player.

New York Giants Bring Back Solid Offensive Lineman To Compete

The New York Giants have re-signed former New England Patriots offensive lineman Jon Halapio. With the start of legal tampering in free agency today, the Giants have been on the move, locking up a key depth player on the line.

General manager Dave Gettleman has made it apparent that he’s focusing on the offensive line this offseason, which attests to the signing of Halapio.

Who is Halapio?

The 26-year-old guard was a sixth-round pick in 2014 by the Patriots; starting in 43-games at Florida. He spent 2016 and the first four-games of 17′ on the Giants’ practice squad before making his debut on Oct. 22. Unfortunately, his first NFL game resulted in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

His first career start was on Nov. 23, at Washington. He replaced an injured D.J. Fluker after he went down with a toe injury (was placed on IR). In the six-games that Halapio started, he showed resiliency and grit. The running game saw improvement and Eli Manning saw himself with more time than usual.

This ultimately gained Halapio enough traction to earn himself another season with Big Blue. Hopefully, he can earn a starting spot on the team and offer great value to a team with minimal cap-space.

New York Giants: A Perfect Trade-Back With The Buffalo Bills

The New York Giants have a ton of holes they need to address this offseason, and finding a way to solve the issues on the offensive line while staying under the salary cap will be difficult.

Holding the second-overall pick in the draft puts New York in a position of leverage, and with the Buffalo Bills trading away quarterback Tyrod Taylor, they might be looking to move up in the draft.

What a great trade-back with the Bill would look like:

The Giants ideally would be able to select Barkley or their choice of quarterbacks at No. 2, but if they decide to trade-back, they could receive extreme value from the Bills.

Buffalo holds both the 21st and 22nd picks in the NFL draft, allowing them some flexibility. The Giants can offer them the second-overall pick for the Bills’ 21st, 22nd and third-round pick, in addition to guard, Richie Incognito.

So, in other words, they would receive two first-round picks and a quality for the price of one draft pick. What makes this deal even more enticing is Incognito’s contract, which only counts $7.5 million against the cap.

The Giants can sign him to a short-term deal and save major cash at the guard position until they can address it through the draft. General manager Dave Gettleman could also decide to take a lineman with on the of the Bills’ picks and add Incognito to compete for the starting position and add depth.

How good is Incognito?

The Bill’s left guard graded out with a 80.5, per PFF. He ranked 12th among guards in the league in 2017.

In addition to his proven abilities, Incognito hasn’t missed a start in the last four-seasons. As a 34 year-old veteran, he won’t garner much money on the open-market, making him an extreme value grab for the Giants.

Woman in New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. Video Identified

A controversial and possibly incriminating video that was leaked Friday, while New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. was on his trip in your Europe. The video shows Odell in bed holding what looks to be some type of “cigar” while a mysterious woman was next time him holding a credit card with a white powdery substance in front of her. The video cuts out right as Odell says “Trying to get you to sleep with…”

Who is this mystery woman?

Laura Cuenca has recently come forward about her evening with the star receiver.

“I do not remember all of the evening, only that we met in a bar and then found ourselves at a hotel and we had passed the night together,” Laura Cuenca wrote in her native French during a private message exchange on Instagram,” says Cuenca.

They apparently met March 8, at the Le Queen nightclub in Paris and then ended up at the Four Seasons George V. She claims that Odell left the next morning for his flight to Madrid.

She also told the Daily News, “No, he did not take any drugs.”

What does this mean for Odell?

The Giants and the NFL are both aware of the video, but at this point neither have any comments. This video could not have come at a worse time for OBJ, as he is in the midst of contract negotiates with the New York Giants. He has already been spoken to by John Mara about his antics on the field, but this is the first time an off-field issue such as this has come up.

This Sucks: Cornerbacks That Can Replace DRC For The Giants

The New York Giants released veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on Sunday, freeing up $6.5 million in cap-space. The movement from veteran to youth is now in full effect, and general manager Dave Gettleman isn’t waiting around to start the overhaul.

We should expect to see more cuts in the coming days, but for now let’s delve into who could potentially replace Rodgers-Cromartie at corner:

1.) Indianapolis Colts: Rashaan Melvin

The 28-year-old cornerback emerged as the best cover corner on the Colts last season, but it was against all odds as he was never considered as such before.

The Giants could pursue Melvin in free agency and likely lock him up to a reasonable deal that would cost less than DRC was set to count. Melvin made less than $1 million last year as a five-year veteran, and will likely only garner $2-3 million per-season on the free agent market.

With a supporting cast of Landon Collins, Janoris Jenkins, Ross Cockrell (if he’s re-signed) and Eli apple behind him, he might be the perfect guy to compete for a starting role on the defense.

2.)  Chicago Bears: Bryce Callahan

The 26 year-old corner has improved in every season he’s been in the league, and at such a young age, the sky is the limit.

There’s reason to believe he could garner a big contract in the coming years, but if the Giants lock him down for the long-term, he could be a steal in free agency.

A $2-3 million per-season deal over three-years could be a good move for the Giants, who are trying to bring in more youth.

3.) Chicago Bears: Prince Amukamara

Anybody remember the Prince? Well, he could be on his way back to New York. At 29-years-old, Amukamara is on the older side, but has extreme value at the right price.

There’s no doubt that Amukamara is talented and a skilled corner, but his injury history is the biggest concern. If he can stay healthy, he would be a great pickup for the Giants.

His worth might be too much for the Giants to offer, but it’s possible they can lock him in for $4.5-5 million per-season on a two-year deal. He might prefer the stability rather than testing his worth on a “prove” it deal.

The New York Giants have cut veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers Cromartie, who was set to count $6.5 million against the cap.

What does this mean?

This move will save enough money for them to go after All-Pro guard Andrew Norwell. The cutting of DRC is hard news to bear, as he was a fan-favorite and a stellar component to the Giants’ defense.

DRC started in six games last season, but played in 15. He only managed to defend one pass the entire season, but locked down the opposing slot receiver on a weekly basis.

It was rumored that the veteran corner would be moving to safety, but after the Giants asked him to take a significant pay-cut, he clearly rejected the proposition.

Only a few days after the New York Giants planned to move cornerback Dominique Rodgers-cromartie to safety, another proposition is being asked of the veteran.

Rodgers-Cromartie has been asked to take a significant pay-cut (he’s set to count $6.5 million against the cap).

The possibilities:

It’s possible the Giants decide to cut ties with the veteran cornerback and save a nice chunk of change, despite him being a fan-favorite.

DRC signed a five-years, $35 million contract in 2014, proving to be well worth the investment. He has been one of the Giants’ most consistent defenders over the course of his tenure, and would likely continue to be so if kept on the team.

It’s unknown what amount the Giants are asking him to forfeit, but we can assume it’s hefty, especially as a veteran that’s not capable of playing every play throughout the entire season.

If he’s willing to give up $3 million of his contract to lower his cap-hit to $3.5 million, the Giants might consider retaining one of the league’s top slot-corner.  Offering incentives of play could also be an additional benefit the Giants could offer him.

 

New York Giants Cut Punter Brad Wing

After having the worst special teams in the NFL last year, New York Giants’ new head coach Pat Shurmur made it clear there were changes to be made. The first change was cutting punter Brad Wing. Just like the rest of the team, Brad Wing regressed tremendously from his 2016 campaign in 2017.

Just how bad was Wing in 2017?

Wing had his lowest net average per punt in his career 36.7 yards, after finishing 2016 with a net average of 40.9. He also had his only two blocked punts of his career this past season. This was more of a decision based on performance than finances, but the Giants will be saving just over $1 million against the cap.

The Giant punt team was not their only struggle on special teams. They struggled mightily in kick returns, kick offs, punter returns, as well as field goals and extra points. That being said, it is safe to assume this will not be the only change the Giants’ special teams see this offseason.

The Giants open a bit more than $1 million in cap-space by cutting Wing.

 

 

The Biggest Downfall Of The New York Giants’ Offense In 2017

Besides the fact that the entire New York Giants team collapsed in 2017, there are some glaring statistics that really stand out in regard to the lost season.

The offense was plagued by miscommunications, lack of talent and injuries. The compilation of factors that played a part in the demise of the team was significant, but one aspect really shows just how bad the offense really was.

The statistic:

The Giants led the league with 45 dropped passes, clearing the first-place margin by seven. Now, it’s fair to mention the lack of wide receivers with the injuries to Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, and Sterling Shepard.

When breaking down the numbers, Manning’s passes were considered catch-able 75.8% of the time, which puts him at fifth-best in the league. Despite his accuracy, the Giants still managed to drop 45 balls. That’s 2.81 drops per-game.

Some players that we saw struggle to catch the ball last season were Marshall (when he was healthy), OBJ (4-when he was healthy), Sterling Shepard (4) and Evan Engram who recorded 11 dropped passes solely.

Out of the top 24 players in regard to dropped passes, three Giants landed on the list. This certainly played a large factor in the struggles faced by the offense in 2017. Going into 18′, we should expect to see the team eradicate a large number of those drops with an improved offense line and running game.

 

Video Shows OBJ Potentially Smoking And Girl Doing Coke

The New York Giants might be in a tad of PR trouble after a video leaked of Odell Beckham Jr. smoking and trying to convince a girl to sleep with his friend.

The video is blurry, and it could just be a mirage, but there is clearly something (looks like a blunt) in his hand on the bed. If this video can be cleared up and it shows the star receiver doing potentially illegal activities, it could cost him a long-term deal.
