Knicks: Enes Kanter shoots down Damian Lillard trade narrative

The New York Knicks are desperately hoping that star point guard Damian Lillard decides to force Portland into a trade. The Knicks have been lost without a legitimate point guard for years, which proved to be a costly weakness during the postseason, despite the valiant effort of Derrick Rose.

Rose still has some gas left in the tank, but he’s no longer in his mid-20s and capable of electrifying the stadium in the blink of an eye with posterizing dunks and consistent minutes. Rose battled through injury and fatigue toward the end of the season but still pushed forward, putting his best foot in front of him. The Knicks would be foolish to let him slip away in FA if they can afford to retain him, but acquiring a star at the position should still be a priority.

While New York is hopeful they can pry Lillard away from the Trailblazers, Enes Kanter believes Damian is staying with the team that originally drafted him.

“You know one thing he doesn’t care about big markets, small markets,’’ Kanter said Monday on SiriusXM Radio. “He wants to win it all in Portland. I’m saying this every time I talk about him, but he’s definitely one of the most loyal and maybe the most loyal player in the league. People always talk about how good of a player he is, but he’s actually one of the best teammates that I’ve played with.”

On the off chance that Lillard hits the market, what would it take for the Knicks to convince Portland to part ways?

Marc Berman of the NY Post believes they could offer Portland a nice package for Lillard if he did hit the trade market:

The Knicks are likely willing to include three first-round picks in a Lillard deal and have the cap space to make a transaction smoother mathematically.

Damian finished this past season with 28.8 points, 7.5 assists, and shot .451 from the field. He also launched 10.5 attempts from downtown, connecting on .391 of his shots, a fantastic mark. Adding a specialist like Lillard, who can spread the ball at an elite level but also score efficiently every night, the Knicks would have their star pairing with Julius Randle sticking around.
For now, all we can do is hope a move happens, but if you listen to Lillard’s rap songs clearly, he is a bit disillusioned with Portland, and depending on who they hire as their head coach, it could either convince him to stay or force him to take his talents elsewhere.

This is why players do not want to play for the New York Knicks

New York Knicks, James Dolan

Former New York Knicks center Enes Kanter is back in the news regarding the team.  He was a guest on The Full 48 podcast on Bleacher Report.  The reason that players will not go to the Knicks has everything to do with ownership.

This comes as no surprise as to Knicks fans.  The Knicks have had a tough time luring big name free agents to New York, case in point, this summer.  There is constant attention on the ownership thanks to social media.

Kanter went on to say that ‘players talk’ and they ‘do not want to deal’  with Knicks ownership.  This makes all the sense in the world.  No wonder, Kevin Durant decided to go to the Brooklyn Nets over the Knicks.

The Nets ownership and front office is what teams should be modeled after, not the Knicks.

Another former Knick, Derrick Rose, also had comments towards the front office recently.  These comments were directed more towards Phil Jackson as compared to the owner.

Rose thought the team of himself, Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah was going to be special.  Until Jackson forced the team to run the triangle then Rose realized the team was “sh-t.”

There always seems to be constant problems surrounding the Knicks ownership and front office.  Former players are finally coming out and voicing their opinions about their tenure with the Knicks.  Maybe, players were ‘scared’ to speak up because they have scene how the owner treats fans and former players.

Things are not going to change with the Knicks unless they fully clean house.  New personnel is doing their best to bring about that change fans are urging for.  It is not going to happen unless there is a change at the very top.

New York Knicks free agency update

Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets

Former New York Knicks center Enes Kanter sees Kevin Durant playing in New York.  However, Kanter believes it will not be for the Knicks, but for the Brooklyn Nets with Kyrie Irving.

Kanter was on the The Herd with Colin Cowherd yesterday.  Kanter basically said that Durant will not be able to handle the harsh New York media.  He then expressed how much he loved New York and all that jazz.

Durant declined his 31.5 million dollar player option on Wednesday, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Irving was also in New York apparently looking for apartments.  Reports have surfaced that Irving likes the Nets ‘infrastructure’ as he struggled with that in Boston.  Him and Durant also met, allegedly, to discuss their future playing together.

The Knicks still have a very good chance at signing Durant.  Take this how you will, but Durant was in New York for his surgery and was seen around the city.

All signs appear to have Irving signing with the Nets and Durant is still a question mark.  Then Ice Cube came out and gave his two cents on the Durant/Irving free agency saying, ‘they might as well go to the Knicks. Go do it. Make history’.

Rumors will be circulating big time over the next free days.  Fans will speculate until they are blue in the face.  But, to be honest, we really do not know what is going on.  Durant & Irving can land with the Knicks, Nets or someone else.  We simply do not know.

Expect some early fireworks Sunday night and hope it is displaying blue and orange colors.
