New York Yankees looking to trade Clint Frazier – only for a controlled starter

New York Yankees, Clint Frazier

The return of New York Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton has made outfielder Clint Frazier expendable, despite his impressive offensive production this season. His defense, however, has been the caveat in the story.

The Yankees have only been able to use the quick bat as a DH due to his issues in the field, and trading for slugger Edwin Encarnacion has made Frazier useless unless he’s considered a trading piece.

The reality is, Frazier will only be traded if a starting pitcher is involved, but I’m not convinced general manager Brian Cashman fully believes the Bombers need one. It’s possible the ride out the injury bug just as they did with the hitters, pulling up reserve options to fill the holes.

Pitching is different, though, it’s much harder to supplement good pitching than adequate hitting. That’s where the value from Frazier comes from and why it’s very possible he is traded this season.

The New York Yankees know what they want in a Clint Frazier trade scenario:

According to Ken Rosenthal on Fox twitter, the Yankees won’t deal Frazier unless they get a starting pitcher with at least two seasons of control.

With four-years of control on Frazier, the Yankees aren’t looking for a rental like Madison Bumgarner. They want an option that can produce over the next few seasons. A potential deal would factor in the potential of Frazier over the four-years of team control.

He’s already showed he can be an everyday hitter in the lineup, but it will be his defense that needs to improve. If he can solve that issue, there’s no doubt he can be an everyday outfielder for a different team, which is what the premise of the deal is and why his value is so high.

Gaining a starting pitcher for his talents and minor-league prospect or two makes sense, but the return would have to be an impact player that can start right away and isn’t injury prone.

New York Yankees can be unstoppable force with new lineup

New York Yankees, Aaron Judge, Jose Altuve

There’s little evidence to counter the argument that the New York Yankees can be an unstoppable force when the batting order is fully healthy and in routine.

Gaining Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge back gives the team a jolt of power that will see them win more times than not — add in the trade for Edwin Encarnacion and you have one of the most intimidating lineups in baseball…by far.

When you have Gleyber Torres, a .287 hitter, batting out of the No. 9 spot, you know you’re in a pretty good place when it comes to offensive production. However, it will all ultimately come down to health and if the unit can remain active. With Judge injury prone and Stanton coming off a dual ailment with his shoulder and bicep, it will be interesting to see how manager Aaron Boone utilizes them.

The New York Yankees are relying on run-support:

The run support provided by the lineup has compensated for bad starting pitching as of late, which is the way the Yankees seem to be headed instead of trading for a star pitcher like Max Scherzer that would take away a ton of youth talent.

I don’t see GM Brian Cashman letting guys like Frazier, Florial, or top prospects go in a deal to bring in a player the Bombers don’t necessarily need. Sweeping both the Astros and Twins, two of the best teams in baseball, with an injury-riddled pitching core, says volumes about their abilities and what the batters are capable of.

It ultimately allows the Yanks to wait out the injury bug and continue forward without spending big before the trade deadline (July 31).

New York Yankees send Cameron Maybin to 10-day injured list

New York Yankees, Cameron Maybin

The New York Yankees have lost another productive player to the injury bug with outfielder Cameron Maybin being sent to the 10-day injured list.

The first-year Yankee heard a “pop” in his calf that later was discovered to be a strain.

Nestor Cortes Jr., who was sent down several days ago to make room for Aaron Judge, has been called back up to the MLB. He will help compensate for injuries to Domingo German and Luis Severino while Maybin recovers. It was expected that Maybin would remain in the lineup as he’s been very productive this season, hitting .314 on the year with five homers and 14 RBIs.

He’s in the midst of a career renaissance, earning a 139 wRC+, proving that his elevation is legitimate and deserving of a spot in the lineup. It seems as if the Yankees have managed to elevate the games of their respective fill-in players after injuries to the starting team.

With Judge and Stanton returning only a few days ago, the Yanks should be in a position to excel with additional run-support.

New York Yankees: Max Scherzer becoming a reality after initial reservations

Could the New York Yankees pursue Max Scherzer in a trade?

Are the New York Yankees serious about acquiring Max Scherzer?

After reports stated that the Yankees would have to give up a ton of assets to acquire National superstar pitcher Max Scherzer, it’s believed that GM Brian Cashman will do whatever it takes to trade for the building block.

SNY | John Harper: A report from Harper says a source said Brian Cashman will do “whatever it takes” to land Scherzer. The Nationals aren’t keen on letting their star walk without gaining a ton in a potential trade. The cost ultimately might be too much to consider, especially considering he’s a future Hall of Famer.

When considering the return of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, the Yankees’ lineup is one of, if not the most intimidating in baseball. The immense talent featured is too much for any team to contain, which makes me believe the Yanks don’t necessarily need to bring in another starting pitcher.

“It has to be one of the most imposing lineups the game has ever seen,” a rival executive SNY on Friday. “Minnesota is having a great year offensively, but nobody can match the Yankees’ firepower from top to bottom, especially with everybody healthy.

However, if Scherzer is deemed to be available, the Bombers won’t hesitate to make a run at the pitcher. He would immediately upgrade the rotation exponentially and become the team’s ace.

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622326″ order=”desc”]

The rotation could look something like this:

1.) Max Scherzer

2.) Luis Severino

3.) Masahiro Tanaka

4.) James Paxton

5.) Domingo German

6.) CC Sabathia

When all are healthy, the Yanks have the best teams in baseball hands down. With the trade deadline being July 31, there’s no doubt he will be working tirelessly to bolster the team and provide support to supplement the injured players. Whether or not Scherzer will be a part of a potential deal is yet to be seen.

New York Yankees: Aaron Judge To Return Friday

New York Yankees, Aaron Judge

The New York Yankees announced before Thursday’s game against the Houston Astros that right fielder Aaron Judge will be returning on Friday to the line-up.

Judge was batting .288 in 73 at-bats before his injury. He pulled a muscle in his oblique on April 20th on a swing against the Kansas City Royals.

Judge hit .125 in 16 at-bats in rehab with the Railriders over the past week. He also hit a home run in his final game with the team’s AAA affiliate.

What Will The Yankees Do?

The Yankees have a tough roster decision to make on Friday.

They need to decide weather the team will carry 12 or 13 position players. By having 13, you keep Cameron Maybin and choose to option a reliever. By keeping 12, you have to do something with Cameron Maybin.

The Yankees could try to waive him in hopes that he clears waivers and goes to the minors, but that isn’t likely. WIth his .300 batting average, he would likely be claimed.

Or, maybe Brian Cashman has another deal coming that could involve Maybin. But, if neither of those options are the case, the Yankees will have to release the speedy outfielder.

It will be great to have Aaron Judge back, but it sucks that the team will have to make a decision to either keep or dump Cameron Maybin, someone that has been extremely productive for the Yankees.

New York Yankees: Where does Cameron Maybin fit in after Aaron Judge returns?

New York Yankees, Cameron Maybin

The New York Yankees are faced with the best, worst decision possible. They have too much talent to choose from. Outfielder Cameron Maybin has been on fire as of late, enjoying a four-game home run streak. With slugger Aaron Judge returning on Friday, it poses a difficult decision for the Yankees.

How will the New York Yankees utilize Aaron Judge when he returns?

There’s no question Judge will be inserted directly into the lineup, but in what capacity is my primary question. Maybin is hitting .315 on the year with five homers and 12 RBIs. Additionally, he’s a serious threat on the basis, which helps in run support and getting runners in scoring position.

However, Judge’s return will ultimately lead to Maybin being designated for assignment. But it seems as if the surprisingly productive player is at peace with the reality of his position:

“It’s a business and things happen,” Maybin stated on Tuesday. “I can’t control what decisions are made. What I control is each and every day I’m going to come out and give it everything like it’s my last game. I always talk about controlling the controllables … my effort, my energy. Control what you can control and then let the chips fall where they may.”

He handled the question far better than Clint Frazier did, as he cleared up his facebook of pictures and, to be quite frank, acted like a child that was unaware of the business side of baseball. In all likelihood, he would have likely been brought back up at some point, but his demeanor screams trade-bait at this point.

The Pinstripes have changed Maybin:

Putting on the Yankees pinstripes has been the catalyst for success this season. Reserve players that have seldom seen success have emerged as legitimate starters. Maybin, Gio Urshela, Luke Voit…unexpected players have risen to the occasion.

“People say wearing the pinstripes isn’t for everybody, but I think it is for guys that can handle some ups and downs. I feel my personality and what I’m able to bring as a nice piece to the puzzle makes me a good fit,” Maybin stated.

The Yankees will likely keep the veteran outfielder over Frazier due to his attitude and acceptance of his role with the Bombers. His influence has been great and he will likely prove to be an impactful option once again as the season progresses.

New York Yankees Injury Updates: Severino, Betances, German, and More

New York Yankees, Luis Severino

As the season progresses, the New York Yankees players are finally coming off the injured list. Key players Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hicks have already made their return. Bomber’s sluggers Giancarlo Stanton is returning Tuesday against the Rays and Aaron Judge is expected to return later this week.

As the injury bug seems to be disappearing, there are Yankees players that are still suffering:

Luis Severino

Yankees’ ace Luis Severino (lat) will not return until after the All-Star break. However, Severino is expected to start throwing from a mound next week.

Dellin Betances

Dellin Betances (shoulder) has said that he is still dealing with discomfort and is not sure when he will resume throwing. It would not be a surprise if Yankee fans see Betances make his return after the All-Star break as well.

Domingo German

Domingo German (hip) was making a huge impact on the Yankees’ so-far successful season holding a 9-2 record when he suffered his injury. German said his hip has been improving and is becoming more mobile. He began throwing on flat ground, however, there is no timetable for his return yet.

Troy Tulowitzki

Troy Tulowitzki (calf) was making progress when he suffered another setback. Tulowitzki was pulled from his rehab game in high-A Tampa a few weeks ago and there have been no updates since. Manager Aaron Boone met with media today and said that he has nothing to say on Tulowitzki’s progress.

Ben Heller, Greg Bird, Jonathan Loaisiga, and Jacoby Ellsbury

These four Yankees will not see the field for some time. Big Yankee names Bird (foot) and Ellsbury (foot) are expected to not return until early to mid-August.

New York Yankees: Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge injury updates

v

Struggling through a current pitching funk, the New York Yankees need all the support they can get in terms of run production, and they’re close to bringing back two of their sluggers.

Giancarlo Stanton, making his way through the minor league systems to return to the starting team, has been smashing homers left and right.

Barring another setback, the Bombers are set to gain back Stanton as early as Tuesday of next week. His presence will be felt in the second game of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees’ closest competitor for the top spot in the AL East.

In addition to Stanton, Aaron Judge is also in line to return during the Yankees’ 10-game homestand. Both Stanton and Judge featured in the lineup for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday night. The sluggers have been facing upper-body issues, Giancarlo with a bicep and shoulder, and Aaron with a strained oblique.

I can’t imagine Judge will be fully healthy but hopefully, he can perform without reinjuring the muscle. The younger of the two when 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and Stanton went 1-for-3 with a three-run blast. The pair didn’t fare extremely well, but both have been sidelined for quite some time and are in need of at-bats to perfect their timing.

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622326″ order=”desc”]

“We feel they are at a point where they are doing well,’’ Boone said when asked about the sluggers’ progression, according to the New York Post. “Obviously they have to get through these final steps and hurdles and rack up some time here. Starting to plan and get excited for them. Hopefully, they join us at some point in the homestand.’’

Judge was hitting .288 with 5 homers and 11 RBIs when he got injured. Allowing him to return to full form is the priority, but it might take a few weeks for him to regain his timing. Being cautious with him and a potential reinjury is essential, but his influence will be impactful on the required success of the Bombers.

New York Yankees: Judge And Stanton Ready To Return In A Few Days

New York Yankees, Aaron Judge

The New York Yankees announced earlier this week that outfielders Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton will be beginning rehab in hopes to return to the lineup next week.

Stanton began his rehab on Tuesday with the Tampa Tarpons, and went 2-for-4 with an oppo blast. He also had two home runs in his rehab game on Wednesday. If all goes well, he should meet AAA Scranton in Durham with Aaron Judge before returning to the Yankees.

Judge has only been working out in Florida, and he isn’t planning on playing any A-ball games.

Judge was batting .288 before his injury in 20 games, while Stanton played just three games before he hit the IL. Once those two come back, you can almost say that the Yankees are relatively healthy.

Who goes?

In all likeliness, Clint Frazier goes to AAA with a focus on defense. That puts the final spot between Kendrys Morales and Cameron Maybin.

I think that they should get rid of Morales, and roll with a five man infield.

Keeping Maybin gives the team an extra speedy outfielder that can produce. In 95 at-bats, he has a .274 average with five stolen bases and has given the team solid defense.

With the Yankees stars returning, it forces the team to make tough decisions, but it will just make the team better in the present and the long-run.

New York Yankees: Injury Updates (6/8/19)

New York Yankees, Dellin Betances

Didi Gregorius

Didi Gregorius made his season debut on Friday, and it didn’t look like he missed any time. The shortstop out of Curacao went 2-for-4 with two hard hit balls, then went yard on Saturday.

Didi’s defense continued to look gold glove caliber, and his arm seemed fine on throws across the diamond.

Skipper Aaron Boone wants to rest Didi on Sunday, and despite the fact that Didi is pleading with him to play it seems that Boone won’t be budging on it, but who knows.

Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge is in Tampa and getting ready for a possible return in three weeks. He has been taking balls in the field, running, and throwing for a few weeks. Just the other day, he advanced from the tee to cage work and on field batting practice.

The plan would be to start rehab in about two weeks, and then get him ready for the team’s series with the Boston Red Sox in London at the end of June.

Giancarlo Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton is also in Tampa with Judge, and he has been doing the same activities as him. However, he is much further along than him and will begin rehab with the Tampa Tarpons on Monday or Tuesday. He is hoping to advance to the Railriders by next weekend.

With the rehab, it puts Stanton about 10 days out from his Yankee return.

Dellin Betances

Aaron Boone said before Saturday’s 8-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians that Dellin Betances had a setback, and will be returning to New York on Monday to meet with team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad.

Betances had soreness in his shoulder Friday morning before his bullpen, and was evaluated in Tampa before the decision to send him back to New York.

Troy Tulowitzki

Troy Tulowitzki is still reportedly at home, “considering his options”. This could potentially mean that we have already seen the end of Troy Tulowitzki in pinstripes, or even in his career.
