New York Jets: Jets vs Giants Preseason Week 1 Preview

The wait is over, New York Jets football is finally back. The Jets finally play their first opponent of the 2019 NFL season. Sure, it may just be preseason but it’s nice to see the Jets get on the field against people who are not wearing green and white. The New York Giants will be hosting the Jets in the annual “Snoopy Bowl” this year at MetLife Stadium this Thursday to see who will have bragging rights until week 10 when both teams meet again for round 2. Obviously, neither team will have their stars out, but it is a very good opportunity for players who aren’t guaranteed a spot on the roster a chance to shine. What better way for the New York Jets to start their new era of football by beating their bigger brother for a chance to finally reign supreme. Here are some things to look out for this Thursday night.

What to expect from Adam Gase?

Adam Gase got a second chance to be a head coach in this league and he doesn’t intend on messing it up. There are many reasons Gase wasn’t successful in Miami but probably the biggest reason was the fact he didn’t know how to call plays. Adam Gase has a history of doing very short yardage throws on second and long and third and long. This can’t happen here in New York. Adam Gase has gone on record before stating that he wants to be more aggressive in his play-calling, and what better way to experiment than in the preseason against a young, up and coming Giants secondary. If Adam Gase wants to avoid being a failure in New York, he must do the opposite of everything he did in Miami.

Position battles to look for

The preseason is the best way to test for players who are battling for a starting or backup role on the roster. The New York Jets certainly do not have a shortage of battles going on and these are some to keep an eye out for.

Tight end

The Jets are pretty set at tight end this year but with Chris Herndon missing the first four weeks due to suspension the Jets will have to see which one of their young tight ends can fill in and be a reliable target for Sam Darnold. The two main competitors are Daniel Brown and Trevon Wesco. Wesco seems to have the upper hand against Brown because he’s had a very good training camp with the team.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Wesco listed as the starting tight end at the beginning of the year.

QB No. 3

The Jets have another QB battle going on this year, thankfully not for the starting spot. The Jets are looking for someone to groom into a backup for Sam Darnold the next couple of years. Luke Falk and Davis Webb are the two guys the Jets are looking at. Falk has had a history with Adam Gase being the third-string QB in Miami last year until he landed on the IR October 5th. Davis Webb, on the other hand, has no relation to Adam Gase but he does have a pedigree that Falk doesn’t. Webb was a third-round pick for the Giants back in 2017 and shows potential. Webb Hoists a howitzer for an arm but doesn’t have the accuracy to match up with it. It’ll be interesting to see which QB will edge out because as of right now there isn’t a clear front runner.

Kicker

The Jets currently have just one kicker on the roster, Chandler Catanzaro. So, who is Catanzaro competing with you might ask? The answer is Catanzaro is competing with himself. Catanzaro is having one of the worst camps this year missing a lot of kicks. The Jets have had a hole at kicker ever since Nick Folk left the team back in 2016. The Jets have lucked out with their kicker situation the past couple of years getting castoffs like Jason Meyers and Catanzaro to have good years, but this might be the end of that little streak. If Catanzaro continues to struggle don’t be surprised to see Joe Douglas seek another kicker when cuts are being made. A couple of names to watch are players like Mason Crosby and the training camp favorite from 2016 and 2017 Ross Martin.

Potential diamonds in the rough

The Jets have had their fair share of training camp standouts this year and they’ll finally get to show off what they can really do against the actual competition. This is where you find players like Robby Anderson who a couple of years ago was in the same position as many of the young players grinding for a spot on the 53. A couple of names to watch are players like Tim White, Kyron Brown, Blake Cashman and Derrick Jones.

 

 

New York Giants: Sam Darnold Warns Daniel Jones About Making Headlines

The New York Giants have a rookie quarterback on that roster, and whether or not Daniel Jones actually plays this season, it’s been causing a lot of talk and a lot of speculation recently. It makes sense, considering the Giants spent the number six overall pick on Jones in a move that surprised just about everyone, but it doesn’t make things easier on Jones himself as a player trying to make the jump from a small football school such as Duke all the way to one of the harshest media markets in the NFL.

But Jones isn’t the only high profile quarterback to make the jump from college to a New York NFL team. Sam Darnold was projected by many to end up with the New York Giants, but instead ending up playing for the other team in New York, the Jets.

The Giants went with Saquon Barkley in a move that many will consider a major success now that Barkley is widely considered to be one of the best two or three running backs in the league, but meanwhile, the Jets might have done something the Giants couldn’t do – eliminated questions about their quarterback position for the forseeable future, at least if there’s no sophomore or junior slump for the successful Darnold down the line.

After going through the college to NFL transition in New York, Sam Darnold knows a thing or two about the subject, and offered some advice to Daniel Jones about the matter while speaking to the New York Post in an interview.

If I were to say anything to Daniel, I’d just say, “Keep your head down and work, and be yourself, because if you do that, no one’s gonna say anything about you, and if you don’t make headlines, you’ll be all right.”

Jones has done something of a good job not making headlines so far, even if he has been the center of a number of articles and headlines simply because of his status as the newest quarterback on the block for the New York Giants. That’s in contrast with Kyle Lauletta, last year’s rookie who ended up making headlines around the league for dangerous driving before even playing in a regular season game.

We’ll see if that continues. Fortunately for Jones, it looks like he’ll have to spend a season sitting based on statements from coaches and even other players claiming Eli Manning is the team’s starter, which should reduce some of the rookie pressure and make it easier to avoid making headlines for the wrong reasons.

New York Jets: Which AFC East QB Will Take Over When Brady is Done?

Over the past 20 years Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have ruled the AFC East only giving up the division title twice, but how long can he go? Entering the 2019 season at age 42, Tom Brady will most likely not be able to sustain his success for the next 2 years. This begs the question, which young AFC east QB will take over when Brady finally decides to hang up the cleats? We’ll be examining the three second-year QB’s from the Dolphins, New York Jets, and Bills to find out who will take over once the captain of the evil empire is gone.

Josh Allen

The signal-caller for the Buffalo Bills had a surprisingly good season manning an offense that had little to no talent. Allen had some help by having arguably the best defense in the league last year, but he still showed flashes of being a top QB in the league.

Allen put up 2,074 yards, 10 TD’s, 12 interceptions and a 52.8 percent completion percentage last season through the air. On the ground, Allen was a beast racking up 631 yards and 8 touchdowns. Allen’s ability as a dual-threat QB is frightening when you consider he has a 6’5, 240-pound frame and a cannon for an arm, sometimes launching balls over 70 yards downfield.

Allen showed a lot of progressions last year especially after coming back from an elbow injury he suffered Week 6 against the Texans. Allen became a more efficient QB after the injury throwing for an average of 207 yards, 1.33 TD’s and 1.17 interceptions from weeks 12-17 compared to 168 yards, .5 TD’s and 1.25 interceptions weeks 2-5. Josh Allen also played on a team with the ninth highest percentage of dropped passes at 8 percent according to PFF. Josh Allen has a lot of raw talent and can be the next QB up in the AFC East, but he must overcome his accuracy issues and make better decisions.

Josh Rosen

The 10th overall pick of the 2018 NFL draft had a very rough rookie season playing for the Cardinals finishing with the worst record in the league. Although the Cardinals finished with the worst record in the league Josh Rosen showed flashes of being a good starter.

Rosen finished the season with 2278 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a 55.2 completion percentage according to pro football reference. Rosen came out of college as very fundamentally sound QB with great footwork and flawless mechanics.

Many people look at the Cardinals season last year and assume that Rosen was awful because of their record, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Rosen was surrounded by absolutely no talent and it doesn’t help that the Cardinals were tied for fifth in the league for sacks allowed (52).

Unfortunately for Rosen, he might not be able to become the next QB up in the AFC East because he’s once again on the least talented roster in the league in Miami. The Dolphins are in full rebuild mode and are not committed to Rosen being their franchise QB. Rosen may find himself getting traded around draft time next season again.

The Dolphins are rumored to be in love with star Alabama QB Tua Tagovailola, they will be able to get him as their a favorite to land a top 5 pick this year. For Rosen to replace Brady as the face of the AFC east he must take a massive leap in his second year and become the franchise QB the Dolphins have lacked since Dan Marino.

Sam Darnold

The New York Jets franchise QB had an up and down rookie year passing for 2,865 yards, 17 TD’s, 15 interceptions and a 57.7 completion percentage. Coming out of the draft last year Sam Darnold was seen as the QB with the best chance to succeed in NFL.

The first half of the season for Darnold was very bumpy, he showed that at times he could be great, and other times that he wasn’t ready to play in the NFL. Darnold suffered a foot injury against the Dolphins week 9. After missing 4 weeks because of the injury Darnold came back and finished the season with his best stretch of football.

Darnold had the highest grade over the final month of the season according to PFF, giving Jets fans hope for the future. Darnold’s best traits are his accuracy and his ability to extend plays, which is the reason why so many people were in love with him in college. If Darnold wants to be the next man up he needs to work on his decision making, Darnold was tied for the third-most interceptions in the league this year. Darnold has all the attributes you look for in a QB he just needs to be quicker when making decisions for him to avoid turnovers.

Conclusion

After analyzing these QB’s I’ve concluded that Sam Darnold will most likely be the face of the AFC east when Tom Brady’s reign of dominance is over. Darnold has all the talent in the world and isn’t nearly as raw as Josh Allen is. Darnold spot on the roster for the next couple of years is secure unlike Rosen whose future with Miami after the season is murky. Darnold is the most likely to succeed out of all these QB’s and has a great supporting cast around him to help achieve that. I believe each one of these QB’s will take big strides into becoming better players this year but with all things considered Darnold is the favorite to take over.

The New York Jets need potential draft steal Trevon Wesco to make an impact

The suspension of rising tight end Chris Herndon for the first four games of the season will put a dent in the offense for the New York Jets. His pass-catching ability and blocking skills will be missed, but the Jets did draft a potential draft steal in Trevon Wesco.

With the 121st overall pick in the fourth round, the Jets drafted who NFL analyst Brian Baldinger calls, “BabyGronk.”

While this is certainly an optimistic statement, Wesco is a mountain of a man, standing at 6’3″ and roughly 270 pounds. Using his size to be a three-position player (Y,F, and H), he can be an impact player on a Jets team that will miss Herndon during his suspension.

The offense doesn’t have a proven backup and it will hurt the play-calls Sam Darnold can run, but Wesco might be able to open the playbook back up.

The New York Jets need their rookie TE to develop quickly:

Wesco is behind on the depth chart — he will need to beat out Eric Tomlinson and Ryan Griffin to earn reps, but his size might be enticing enough to get him on the field. Tomlinson has been known for missed assignments and drive-killing penalties.

The West Virginia product was a great option for Will Grier last season, hauling in 26 passes for 366 yards in 10 games (Sports-Reference). His frame could make for a solid red zone target for Darnold in the passing game. The Jets’ quarterback doesn’t have a true red-zone target, but I imagine they will look to utilize Le’Veon Bell early and often in those situations.

Trevon is sneaky off the line of scrimmage. He’s a primary blocker which only helps his unpredictability in the passing game. Averaging 14.1 yards per reception attests to his ability to expose the seam and make plays over the middle. That’s how the Jets and Adam Gase should look to extract the most value out of the rookie.

New York Jets Training camp is right around the corner, and there is finally some hope for Jets fans this upcoming season. After a very successful offseason acquiring top tier talent, an offensive-minded head coach, and rebranding the organization, Gang Green is ready to take the next step into becoming contenders and it all starts in training camp.

In order for the Jets to reach their full potential and reach the playoffs for the first time since 2010, they need certain players to step their game up and take the team to the next level.

Here are 6 players to watch in New York Jets training camp this summer:

Robby Anderson

Robby Anderson has been one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL for the past two seasons. With his blazing fast speed, steady hands, and his tall athletic frame he’s quickly become one of the top deep threats in the NFL but is that enough? Anderson is arguably the best receiver on the team, but he hasn’t shown any promise into becoming a number one receiver due to the previous coaching staff.

New head coach Adam Gase has raved about Anderson’s ability to stretch the field and add an element of speed on a team that doesn’t have any other deep threats.

Gase has had a good track record with wide receivers who have game-breaking speed like Robby Anderson, usually turning them into an X factor every Sunday. If Gase’s infatuation with Anderson is real don’t be surprised to see him finally get his first thousand-yard year.

Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold is entering his second year in the league and has an enormous amount of pressure to take the New York Jets to the next level. The recent trend for successful young quarterback’s in the league has been that in their second year they have breakout years and turn their team to legitimate contenders (e.g. Carson Wentz, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Mitch Trubisky, etc.).

Darnold had an up and down rookie year battling injuries and turnovers but had an amazing final four weeks of the season having the highest grade for a QB on PFF over that span. In order for Darnold to take that next step, the New York Jets must let him air it out downfield and take more chances.

Le’Veon Bell

First things first, Le’Veon Bell doesn’t need to step up his game whatsoever he’s a top 5 running back in the league and in my opinion the most versatile offensive weapon in the league. That being said, Le’Veon does have a chip on his shoulder after taking one year off due to contractual reasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Many people have written off Le’Veon Bell as just a product of his offensive line in Pittsburgh. Le’Veon Bell has constantly played in the shadow of other great players such as Antonio Brown, but now the offense will revolve around him and he will make people remember why he is the most dangerous player whenever he steps on the field.

Darryl Roberts

The Jets defense on paper is one of the best in the league and is mostly complete, but their biggest hole is at the second cornerback slot. Darryl Roberts has made quite the career for himself considering that he was a seventh-round pick in 2015 by the New England Patriots and this year he will be battling for the chance to start opposite of Trumaine Johnson.

Darryl Roberts is the most accomplished corner on the team after Trumaine Johnson and signed a three-year extension with the team worth $18 million dollars. The expectations are high for Roberts especially if Trumaine Johnson continues to deal with injuries. Roberts will maximize his potential in Gregg Williams scheme which is infamous for elevating defensive backs games.

Quinnen Williams

This year’s first-round pick Quinnen Williams has some big expectations coming into his rookie year after dominating the SEC for Alabama. The draft hype surrounding Quinnen Williams was unreal, he was even rated higher analytically than his Heisman trophy finalist QB Tua Tagovailoa.

Quinnen was often compared to the reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. Quinnen’s best traits coming out of college were his hands and ability to process what was going to happen before the play even finished. Quinnen Williams could be the star pass rusher that the Jets desperately need and can completely change the outlook of the Jets season by himself.

Jonotthan Harrison

After Sam Darnold, all eyes on the offensive side of the ball will be set on this year’s starting center Jonotthan Harrison. No one really knows what to expect from Harrison, but after a nice job filling in for Spencer Long the final few weeks of the year there is hope that he can be a solid center. Harrison has shown flashes of being a suitable starter, but the question is can he be consistent with it.

If Harrison can duplicate his play from last year the New York Jets will have a decent offensive line for Sam Darnold and Le’Veon Bell to work with this year.

 

 

 

New York Jets: Why the offensive line ‘needs’ to improve in 2019

The New York Jets made it a priority to improve their offensive line this offseason, and it was imperative they did considering the potentially catastrophic effects of them avoiding the issue.

While a majority of the Jets’ team has been built around the idea of youth, their offensive front has a veteran core that brings years of experience to the table. Arguably the best blocker upfront is Kelechi Osemele, formerly of the Oakland Raiders.

This is a very mature group. A lot of these guys have been starting for a long time already, so there really isn’t any pressure for me to be anybody’s big brother to babysit. Guys are professionals and we have a lot of guys who are trying to come into some bigger contracts and want to do well for themselves. And there’s obviously guys that want to play at a Pro Bowl level. Everybody has an accountability and something that they’re trying to accomplish on this line, so we’re pretty self-sufficient and self-motivated, and we’re pretty driven.

Why does the offensive line need to improve for the New York Jets?

In 2018, the unit allowed an unacceptable 37 sacks (ESPN) – not as much as some teams, but way too much for their rookie quarterback to endure, which saw him pick up minor injuries along the way. The primary reason this group must perform at a higher level is because of Darnold and his youth.

They need to ensure he remains healthy and on the field, as injuries will only stunt his growth and development. Bringing in players like Osemele to mesh with Kelvin Beachum, Jonotton Harrison, Brian Winters, and Brandon Shell will help protect Darnold from taking unnecessary sacks and staying in the pocket.

We don’t want to have an Eli Manning situation on our hands where Darnold is looking for incoming pressure before reading his progressions. Hopefully, the line can stay healthy over the course of the season and help the young quarterback take his game to the next level.

New York Jets: LeVeon Bell is going to make Sam Darnold that much better

The New York Jets are in great shape moving forward with LeVeon Bell at the helm:

While Isaiah Crowell presented a decent running back option in 2018 for the Jets, he doesn’t even compare to the talent they acquired in LeVeon Bell.

Despite the rumors that Adam Gase wasn’t interested in signing the star running back, his influence will be impactful, and he will elevate Sam Darnold’s numbers and success exponentially. Having a safety option like Bell in the backfield will give Darnold an extra progression in case his receivers are bottled up.

To give you some context:

Bell, who missed all of 2018 with a contract dispute, earned 1,291 rushing yards the year prior to go along with 655 receiving yards and 11 scores. As a dual-threat back, Gase will be able to open up his playbook and really exercise screens more effectively and efficiently. It will be interesting to see how Gase utilizes Bell’s unique skill-set and implements it on the offense.

Darnold commented on his abilities and how he is going to confuse defenses, according to ESPN:

“When he’s out there in the huddle, the defensive coordinator doesn’t know where he’s going to line up. He doesn’t know what’s coming his way. With Le’Veon out there, we’ve become a little more unpredictable, just because he’s such a great route runner. He’s not just running a ‘smoke,’ and he’s not just running 5-yard routes. He could run deep on you. He could run a slant … and score. There are a lot of different things he can do.”

That’s one of the more underrated aspects of Bell, he can run routes like a legitimate receiver — post routes, slants, etc. Unpredictability will be the word to use when it comes tot he Jets’ new running back – Gase said it himself:

“Is he going to be in the gun? Strong? Offset? Weak? Is he going to be under center [in the Wildcat]? Is he going to be split out wide? Is he going to be the single receiver? Is he going to be in empty? Is he going to be in the slot? There are five different spots he can go if we go empty.

I anticipate Bell not only being the leading rusher for the Jets but also their top receiver. Adding just Jamison Crowder in free agency to bolster their receiving corps simply isn’t enough to get the job done for Darnold. They still have Robby Anderson on the team but lost Jermaine Kearse – this unit surely needs a boost otherwise opposing defenses will look to scheme Bell out of the game.

Bell had Antonio Brown to help deter defenders from stacking the box against the running back in Pittsburgh.

New York Jets: Adam Gase says what every Jets fan wants to hear

The New York Jets were enjoying a stellar offseason before general manager Mike Maccagnan was fired surprisingly after a reported dispute between himself and new head coach, Adam Gase.

The signings of LeVeon Bell and CJ Mosely suddenly took a backseat after a successful free agent period, but there’s still hope on the horizon, because as we know, being a Jets fan can never be easy.

However, Gase has taken on the role of interim general manager and has activated his positivity to band together with the fan-base.

“I think our fans care if we win or lose,” Gase said. “If we win games, no one is going to remember this, I know that. Our job is to win. Our job is to win. That’s it.”

Gase was accused of fighting with Maccagnan over the signing of Bell, as the former Miami Dolphin coach apparently believed that premium running backs weren’t necessary. Although, Gases’ relationship with Bell has been great since the firing.

The New York Jets can erase the bad with the good in 2019:

The Jets desperately need to have a successful season if they wish to wash the criticism away after the transgressions that occurred this offseason. With Sam Darnold going into his second-season, Gase and his offensive prowess should help him reach his potential.

Darnold threw 15 interceptions in 2018 – finding a way to lessen that number and utilize his playmakers efficiently will be the priority. Bell will certainly play a big part in the progression of the offense and the efficiency of the team as a whole.

Bell will act as a fantastic security blanket for Darnold in the passing game but will also give the Jets a quality at running back they haven’t experience in quite some time. Hopefully, Gase can bring out the best in Darnold and Bell individually.

New York Jets: Sam Darnold preparing to take big leap in 2019

The New York Jets didn’t hesitate to throw quarterback Sam Darnold into the fire last season, skimping him of playmakers on offense and protection on the offensive line.

Being sacked 30 times surely didn’t do his confidence any favors, yet he still earned 17 touchdowns through the air. However, he will look to improve upon his 57.5% completion percentage, a number that speaks more about his lack of talent at the wide receiver position rather than his inadequacies throwing the football.

The fact of the matter is, Darnold can be elite, but he will need to learn how to utilize talent. With players like LeVeon Bell and Jamison Crowder joining the Jets, the second-year passer will have playmakers to employ that trump any he’s ever worked with before.

Bell has the ability to break a big play at any moment and will be Darnold’s best friend in the passing game. A security blanket like Bell will open up the door to tons of offensive plays, especially screen passes and the play-action.

How did Sam Darnold look in the first team practice?

The young quarterback was stellar in the Jets’ first open practice on Thursday. While OTAs aren’t the best source or indication of success, they show the fundamental works of any given player. In those terms, Sam looked like a franchise signal caller.

He dropped a dime in the bread-basket of WR Robby Anderson on a 43-yard bomb down the sideline. He also sniped Quincy Enunwa across the middle in a tight window. New head coach Adam Gase and his offensive genius will help Darnold reach his potential. Coaching a stripped Miami Dolphins team limited the potential of the talented coach, but joining an organization with solid playmakers and a great young quarterback to help develop should extract the most out of his abilities.

I’m extremely excited to see what Gase and Darnold can accomplish as a duo.

 

 

New York Jets Get Adam Gase’s Right Hand Man, Dowell Loggains, as OC

In a widely anticipated move, the New York Jets officially hired Dowell Loggains to be their next offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The move comes as no surprise, given Loggains’ experience working alongside new head coach, Adam Gase. At first glance, this decision appears questionable, due to Dowell’s lack of success with other teams. Regardless, Loggains has a chance to redeem himself with Gase running the show. The team’s redemption will depend on how they guide the true leader of the offense: quarterback Sam Darnold.

The Stats Don’t Tell the Whole Truth:

 Dowell Loggains comes to the Jets with a shoddy track record. None of the offenses he led, the Titans in 2012 and 2013 and the Bears in 2016 and 2017, were ranked higher than 19th in points scored. The 2017 Bears were voted dead last among all 32 teams in play calling during Loggains’ reign as OC. They averaged only 16.5 points a game, placing 29th in the league. Most recently, the Dolphins’ offense under Loggains failed to impress, ranking 26th in total points and 31st in total yards.

However, turbulence among personnel can play a pivotal role for an offense and its coordinator. This was the case for Loggains. In 2017, the Bears opted to throw rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky into the fire after giving up on Mike Glennon five weeks into the season. Meanwhile, the 2018 Dolphins offense never had any continuity due to injuries to quarterback Ryan Tannehill and wide receiver Albert Wilson.

Plus, Dowell has achieved some success in the league, particularly as a quarterbacks coach. Manning that position with the Bears in 2015, he guided Jay Cutler to one of his best seasons. Cutler had 3,629 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions, a career-low. Coincidently, the Bears OC at the time just happened to be none other than Adam Gase.

Gase Believes in Him:

 As the new head coach of the New York Jets, Adam Gase would not have brought Dowell Loggains with him if he didn’t have faith in him. He trusts that Loggains can be a competent #2 and help guide his offense. Gase will call the plays, but Loggains will be counted on to help oversee the development of the offense.

These two certainly know each other well. They became a pretty good pair in 2015 with the Bears. Gase guided a rushing offense that ranked 11th in the league that year. Meanwhile, under the tutelage of Loggains, Jay Cutler helped the Bears garner a third-down efficiency of 42.5%, the 6th highest total in the league.

It’s worth noting that Cutler played that entire season. Therefore, Gase probably thought Loggains could work his magic on Tannehill and the Dolphins in 2018. Injuries prevented that from being a reality, but Gase clearly hasn’t lost confidence in Loggains. This opportunity with the Jets gives them both a chance for a fresh start. They’ll also have the services of a promising fresh face, Sam Darnold, making this a golden opportunity.

 Potential success in New York for Adam Gase and Dowell Loggains will hinge on how they develop franchise quarterback Sam Darnold. He will be the youngest quarterback they’ve ever worked with. They’ll be counted on to help him grow and lead the Jets to new heights in the years to come.

Darnold definitely showed signs he can be the star quarterback that the Jets, Gase, and Loggains need. Coming back from a foot injury, Sam showed tremendous improvement towards the end of the season. He demonstrated better command in the pocket and better results, which included throwing 341 yards and 3 touchdowns in an overtime loss to the Packers.

With the hire of Dowell Loggains, the Jets gave Adam Gase his guy on the offensive side of the ball. Now, they just need to do their jobs and steer this offense in the right direction. If they can help Darnold and the rest of the offense soar, no one will question the decision to trust this duo.
