The New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays have agreed on a deal to send All-Star Marcus Stroman to Queens. The deal does NOT involve Noah Syndergaard or Zack Wheeler. Instead the Blue Jays will receive prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods-Richardson.

Did the Mets Give Up Too Much?

Whenever teams give up prospects, it is a lottery ticket that teams hope never give their teams high rewards. Kay is the top Mets pitching prospect, but has struggled during his time in Triple-A this season. His ERA is over six in Syracuse.

Woods-Richardson is only 18-years old, but has progressed through the minors quickly. He is the one who gets this deal done because he still has time to grow while Kay is 24-years old. This is a very fair deal for now, but we truly do not know the answer until all is said and done.

What Does This Mean For The Mets?

They currently only sit five games under .500 and six out of the second Wild Card spot. They have a light schedule coming up and have been playing great since the All-Star Break. The Mets seem to be all in for this season and the following one.

Noah Syndergaard could be the next pitcher the Mets move. Do not expect the Mets to move him unless they get a spectacular return. Worst case scenario they keep him and have one of the best rotations in baseball. There are still a few days until the trade deadline arrives and it seems the Mets still have more work to do.

The New York Yankees are in dire need of pitching support, especially after allowing 56 runs in their last five games. The staters have been atrocious, averaging together well over a 4.00 ERA. There’s now not a single starter on the team averaging below a 4.00 ERA on the year.

With this imposition of the rotation, it has made bringing in a capable starter a necessity. General manager Brian Cashman has made trade deadline deals before, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen again. Options such as Marcus Stroman, Noah Syndergaard, Trevor Bauer, and Madison Bumgarner are all on the target as the Yanks inch closer to finding a new pitcher.

However, one of the league’s best pitchers this season is Stroman, who is simply excited to take his talents to a big market where the pressure is on. He seems to embrace the challenge and wants to be a part of a successful club.

The Yanks and Blue Jay are currently in talks in regards to the 28-year-old. Stroman’s contract expires after next season, so the Yanks would be looking to extend him if they are forced to give up a player like Clint Frazier in a potential deal.

MLB.com’s Jon Morosi tweeted that the two clubs have been in talks, but it’s not clear if any momentum has been gained.

Over 21 starts on the year, Stroman has an amazing 2.96 ERA. If that isn’t enough to draw attention, what will? His tenacity and mentality towards the game fit perfectly with how the Yankees approach success. His fire and attitude might seem to be a bit aggressive, but it all centers around winning.

After the New York Yankees starting pitching had one of its worst weeks in franchise history, it looks more likely that the team will acquire a starting pitcher before the trade deadline. Marcus Stroman and Madison Bumgarner are the two biggest names that come up, and the Yankees will be better off acquiring Stroman over Bumgarner.

Why Stroman?

Marcus Stroman is a little less than a year younger than Madison Bumgarner, and debuted in the majors in 2014 compared to 2009 for Bumgarner. This means that Stroman would be under team control through 2021, when Bumgarner’s contract expires at the end of 2020.

Stroman has also had less issues with other players. Even though he is in the NL, Bumgarner has had many run-ins with guys like Yasiel Puig, and that could be harmful to the team.

Plus, Stroman is having a better season than Bumgarner. Though he is 6-11, Stroman has an ERA under 3.00 and a 3.2 WAR. Bumgarner has a 5-7 record and an ERA of 3.66 with a WAR of just half of Stroman’s.

However, it might be hard to get Bumgarner anyway. The Giants are playing well of late, and they may not end up selling in hopes of a shot at a wildcard spot. The Blue Jays on the other hand are well out of the wildcard race and are beginning a huge rebuild.

With that being said, Toronto would likely want more prospects for Stroman. They are rumored to be interested in Deivi Garcia and Clint Frazier, but other guys like Tyler Wade could also be in the mix.

Marcus Stroman would be a much better option for the Yankees over Madison Bumgarner.

It is no question the New York Yankees need starting pitching. Every arm in the rotation currently holds an ERA above 4.00 and each starter has not gone past 4.0 innings in their last game started. None of them are going the distance which hurts the bullpen.

The staff has combined a total of 35 earned runs in their last respective starts. With ace Luis Severino still on the injured list, the Yankees need a consistent arm – maybe more than one.

Marcus Stroman

His record might not show it, but Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays is one of the league’s premier pitchers. He holds a 2.96 ERA this season in over 21 games pitches. The “Stro-Show” also consistently goes the distance – exactly what the Yankees need.

Stroman is not a swing-and-miss pitcher. He knows how to pitch and pitches to contact. He holds a 56% groundball rate. Throwing a fastball at around 93-94, Stroman also flashes a cutter, slider, sinker, changeup, and curveball. This arsenal of pitches keep hitters guessing and off-balance. Another thing to note, Stroman throws strikes. Take a look at this chart from FanGraphs, it shows how consistent he is within the zone.

I believe Marcus Stroman wants to come to New York. His intensity and fire will be loved in Yankee Stadium. Stroman even said this to New York reporters: “I love the bright lights. I was built for this.”

Madison Bumgarner

One of the best in postseason, the Yankees could use a guy like Madison Bumgarner. Last season in the playoffs it was evident that the Yankees struggled with their starters. Everyone remembers the embarrassing 16-1 loss to the Red Sox in the ALDS at Yankee Stadium last year…

Bumgarner holds a 8-3 record with a 2.11 ERA in the postseason. He is known for his dominance in the playoffs. The lanky left-hander played a big part in the Giants’ 2014 World Series championship. The guy knows how to handle big games and is someone who could fill in the missing pieces for the Yankees.

Noah Syndergaard

Many believe the New York Mets won’t trade away their prized Thor. However, many evaluators think differently. Noah Sydergaard will be eligible for free agency after the 2021 season, and that promises many teams two more years if he’s traded. Not only that, but the guy is one of the league’s best pitchers. His record doesn’t show, but triple digit fastball will play. In 126.2 innings pitched, he has fanned 126 while walking 36.

This trade fits perfectly for the Yankees. Syndergaard is a guy who can go the distance and sometimes flash a complete game. Behind the Yankee’s offense, Thor could be unstoppable in the Bronx.

The New York Yankees have given up a combined 40 runs over the last five games, and their starting pitchers are on the hook for 29 of them, an atrocious number that nearly guarantees GM Brian Cashman bringing in another starter.

It’s obvious fatigue is starting to set in as players like Domingo German, CC Sabathia, and James Paxton are all struggling at an immense rate. German has never pitched over 85.2 innings in a season and he’s already at 91.2, Sabathia’s age is clearly getting the best of him and Paxton looks lost after reports of knee inflammation dampened his potential.

The return of Luis Severino should provide a boost given he can return to his former self, but it will take mountains to solidify the unit at this point in time, which is why a trade is becoming more likely with every passing day.

Yesterday, we talked about Clint Frazier being a trading piece, and today it’s nearly impossible to consider him less than that.

The Yankees have been linked to several quality options like Madison Bumgarner, Marcus Stroman, Trevor Bauer and more, and with the trade deadline being July 31, expect a move to be made soon.

It’s very possible the Bombers elect not to bring in another pitcher, but they’de be doing themselves a disservice and ultimately hurt their chances at a World Series run. The reality is, it’s necessary, and the fact they traded for Edwin Encarnacion out of the blue should attest to their sneakiness.

However, the 10th inning victory against the Twins on Tuesday night, capped off by a game-sealing Aaron Hicks mega-catch, was a sneak peek into the deterioration of the relief pitching corps. Aroldis Chapman can’t record a save for his life and Adam Ottavino lost his control. The fact they managed to win that game was simply a product of their insane run-support and defensive quality.

If the New York Yankees realistically want a quality pitcher with control to help the rotation, they will likely have to part ways with the offensive-minded Clint Frazier.

Frazier, who was demoted to the minor league’s due to his below-average defense, has been playing well in Triple-A, however, he could be utilized as trade bait given the value he currently holds. The Yankees have been linked to several pitching options including Marcus Stroman, Madison Bumgarner, Trevor Bauer, Mike Minor and others, but the expectation is that they will require a pretty penny.

Stroman has been heavily linked to the Yanks, currently having a solid season with a 3.06 ERA. Inconsistencies throughout his career have driven down his price-tag, but the success he’s having in 2019 will force the Bombers to give up a decent player if not multiple prospects.

The elevation of reserve options like Mike Tauchman and Cameron Maybin makes Frazier irrelevant to a degree, and keeping him in the minors for the extended future is essentially just wasting away his talent. Adding a pitcher with his value could be worth more to the current team that Frazier’s influence down the road.

Prior to being designated for assignment, Clint was hitting .283 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs on the season. He also recorded three errors and had a fielding percentage of .950. In the event that the Yanks trade Frazier, the importance of Tauchman instantly increases. He’s been on a hot streak as of late and will be a frequent flyer on the starting team. His success helps justify trading Frazier at the end of the day.

It is very likely that the New York Yankees will be making a move by July 31st to acquire a starting pitcher. Rumors have been swirling around, but the only pitcher the Yankees could possibly get is Marcus Stroman.

Seven strong

On Friday against the Detroit Tigers, Marcus Stroman had another good outing, showcasing his talents. Yes, the Tigers are the worst team in baseball, but Stroman blanked them over seven innings, allowing six hits and punching out five.

He threw 101 pitches, and he averages about 100 pitches an outing.

If the Yankees got him, they wouldn’t need him to do nearly as much. All they would need is six solid innings, and he could get away with making a few bad pitches and giving up a few runs. With him being on a team like Toronto, there becomes more pressure on your pitcher to pitch well.

Stroman now has an ERA of 3.06 on the season.

Why not other guys?

There has also been interest surrounding guys like Madison Bumgarner, Trevor Bauer, and Mike Minor.

It seems that Bumgarner and Bauer may be off the table for any trades, period. Both the Giants and the Indians are playing better baseball of late, and could be in contention for a wild card spot So, those two teams wouldn’t be selling at the deadline, they would try to buy.

The Rangers are also in position for a possible wild card spot, but are more open to trades. Minor has struggled in July, so maybe the Yankees should put Minor on the back-burner.

There is only one pitcher that the Yankees have a shot at acquiring, and it’s Marcus Stroman. Other teams just aren’t in the right position to sell at the trade deadline.

As the July 31st trade deadline quickly approaches, the New York Yankees are looking feverishly for a starting pitcher to supplement the number of injuries piling up.

With Luis Severino expected to be out for another six weeks minimum, and James Paxton, CC Sabathia, and more struggling with minor injuries, it’s only right the Bombers look to add to the rotation.

The rumor mill has been hot and heavy and will continue to be leading up to the deadline, but Toronto Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman is beginning to make more season, despite some fan’s desire to stay away from him.

“Stroman is a New Yorker,” Sun columnist Steve Simmons wrote. “He wants to be a Yankee. He thinks he’s meant for this stage and this place and he hopes to convince Yankees general manager Brian Cashman that he’s worth pursuing.”

One of the more inconsistent pitchers in the league, Stroman has had a solid season so far in 2019. Earning a 3.25 ERA with 88 strikeouts and a 1.274 WHIP (the second lowest in his career with a minimum of 18 games starter), the Blue Jays pitcher is ripe for a deal that would send him to the Bronx.

If his words match up with his abilities, he could be a fantastic addition for the Yanks and a catalyst in helping them succeed during the playoffs.

The primary issue is his cost, as the Jays are looking for a big return. The 28-year-old righty won’t be a free agent until 2021, which gives the team that deals for him two years of security (more like 1-1/2).

While Stroman is having a great season, he’s no ace. The Yanks will wait patiently for the return of their top pitcher, Severino, but having Marcus come in and fit into the rotation is a good idea given the price isn’t astronomical. It’s possible Clint Frazier emerges as a trading piece, but GM Brian Cashman would prefer to keep the offensive maestro.

There’s no question the New York Yankees are in need of starting pitching support with Luis Severino and Domingo German, two primary starters, fighting through injuries. Throw in the inflammation to James Paxton and CC Sabathia and there’s a serious problem brewing.

While it’s possible GM Brian Cashman elects to whether the storm in a similar fashion to what he did earlier this year when the batting order was out of whack, it’s expected he will make a move. The trade deadline being July 31st gives the Yankees some time to find the right deal, but it’s becoming more clear that Toronto Blue Jays’ Marcus Stroman might be the player of choice.

A pitcher that has struggled in the past but is excelling in the present, Stroman would be a solid addition to a thin rotation for the Bombers. In fact, he already believes he’s capable of handling New York, according to the New York Post:

“I’m built for this,” said the 28-year-old. “Anybody can say whatever, but I’m built for the bright lights. I’m not scared of it. I’ve never been. I take that ball each and every time with the pressure on. I love it.”

“New York is like the mecca of the world,” Stroman said. “I love the excitement, I love the bright lights, I love competition, I love pressure, so I’ve always loved pitching here. Even if I haven’t necessarily pitched fairly well here, I’ve always enjoyed it. … I love the spotlight. The bigger the moment, that’s kind of where I’ve always wanted to be.”

With the Blue Jays holding onto one of the worst records in baseball, it’s possible they could see the value in trading Stroman immediately. His value is as high as it will likely ever be, presenting them with a good opportunity to steal a player like Clint Frazier away from the Yankees.

New York Yankees: 3 pitchers that could provide immediate value

With Nationals star Max Scherzer essentially off the board for a potential trade with the New York Yankees, it leaves us seeking quality elsewhere.

There’s plenty of pitchers that will be available on the trading block in the next few weeks, it ultimately comes down to what the Yankees are willing to give up in a deal and if they can manage to secure a pitcher with a proven health record that won’t be a potential problem.

Here are three pitchers the New York Yankees could pursue:

1.) Mets – Zack Wheeler

The Mets are in a position where trading players for youth value might be a good idea. The current season hasn’t panned out as expected and adding building blocks for the future is ideal. That’s where Zack Wheeler comes into play – the question is, are the Mets willing to deal with their cross-town rival?

If it includes Clint Frazier, they shouldn’t even hesitate to pull the trigger on a potential deal. Sitting at 5-4 on the year and 4.87 ERA, Wheeler is a solid option for the Yankees, especially when you consider his 97 MPH fastball. He’s one of the hardest throwing pitchers in the league and represents a ton of value if the Bombers can secure him.

2.) Giants – Madison Bumgarner

Despite a 3-6 record, Bumgarner is one of the better pitching option available via trade for the Bombers. He featured a 3.87 ERA and 90 strikeouts over 93 innings pitched. He’s an elite talent that can help the Yankees immediately, however, it would likely cost them a pretty penny.

Factor in Frazier and a few minor league prospects and it’s possible the Yankees could convince the Giants to pull the trigger. Sitting in last place at 30-39 are the Giants, who are desperately in need of run support. Adding a quality hitter in Frazier that’s only improving would be exactly what they need to begin building for the future.

3.) Blue Jays – Marcus Stroman

With Stroman coming off his worst season in the MLB – 4.54 ERA over 102 1/3 innings pitched, he’s a solid target for GM Brian Cashman. Add in shoulder fatigue and a blister issue on his right middle finger, he would be a great value pickup for the Yankees if they’re not looking to spend major bucks.

Sitting at 4-8 on the season, Stroman is putting up much better numbers than his record indicates. He has an ERA of 3.18 but isn’t known to be a strikeout pitcher. He’s having a much better campaign this year, but the concerns mentioned before still bring down his value. He would cost much less than Bumgarner, but likely similar to Wheeler.
