New York Yankees Breaking News: Jameson Taillon had been added to the IL

New York Yankees, Jameson Taillon

There appears to be no end to the bad breaks for the New York Yankees. Today the Yankees put starting pitcher Jameson Taillon on the 10 day IL due to a right ankle injury as reported by YES Network commentator/reporter Meredith Marakovits and CBS Sports.

This is the second bad starting pitching news for the Yankees this week. First, Gerrit Cole removed himself from a game against the Blue Jays when he felt left hamstring tightness. No MRI has been scheduled as of today for Cole. So his next start is in question.

After a slow start of the season, Taillon has turned out to be one of the Yankees’ most reliable starters. He is 8-6 with an ERA of 4.41. The Yankees have won 8 of his last 10 starts. This is quite unexpected as his last start against the Blue Jays was a quality one. It may have to do with a dive he made in the game. As more information becomes available, you will find it on EmpireSportsMedia.com.

New York Yankees: 4 takeaways from Yankees loss to the Blue Jays

New York Yankees, Brooks Kriske

After losing two games in a row against the Baltimore Orioles, the New York Yankees went into their Labor Day game with the Toronto Blue Jays, hoping to right the ship and get a win with Jameson Taillon on the mound. Unfortunately, that plan failed as the Yankees came away with their 3rd consecutive loss. The Yankee team of the first half again showed up listless, failing to hit, making errors, and hitting into double plays. The final score was the Jays 8, the Yankees zero.

Taillon gives up 2 then pitches great

Jameson Taillon took to the mound yesterday, hoping to get a win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Instead, fans were shocked when he immediately gave up a back-to-back homer to the Jays. But then he was stellar, saving the Yankees’ overworked bullpen by pitching into the seventh inning, only giving up just one more hit.

As Taillon settled in in the first inning, both Marcus Semiem and Vlad Guerrero Jr. homered back to back. But then Bo Bichette and Teoscar Hernandez went down on strikes to end the inning and put the Yankees down by two. Taillon found his form and pitched a scoreless second even though he was challenged by two Yankees, Gleyber Torres, and Gio Urshels, committing errors in the inning. In the third, Urshela committed another error, but an inning-ending double play helped Taillon.

In the end, Taillon was masterful, completing seven innings and only allowing one more hit in the seventh.  He put down the side in order in the fourth. He followed that with a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth. Then, in the sixth inning, he used just 7 pitches to put down the Jays. Unfortunately, the Yankees closing woes continued yesterday when Brooks Kriske in the ninth allowed the Jays to blow it open, scoring five earned runs off him.

Where is the team that won 13 straight

New York Yankee fans are scratching their heads after three consecutive losses, wondering where the team that won 13 straight games had gone. In the last three games, the Yankees have only gotten 15 hits and scored only 10 runs. Yesterday they were dumbfounded by the Jays pitching and were shut out.

It seems that the 13 consecutive winning team has disappeared and replaced by the team that played in the first half. They have failed to lift the ball, failed to hit and yesterday committed three errors in the same game. To be fair, all three errors were committed by players Gio Urshela and Gleyber Torres, both of whom have just come off the IL. The two errors yesterday was shocking coming from Ushela, who is usually perfect. But for Torres, it was his second error in as many days.

The Yankees only got 5 hits yesterday, all singles. Only Brett Gardner reached second base when Gio Urshela ground out in the third. Then, DJ LeMahieu ground out, stranding Gardner.

Shortcomings still evident in the bullpen

The New York Yankees have lost faith in  Aroldis Chapman; he hasn’t figured out his lack of fastball control. Chapman was lights out during the first half of the season with an ERA of 0.00 through May 21st. During July, that ERA rose to 4.00 due to him seemingly losing control of his fastball. August wasn’t much better, but on August 26th, he was dominant, encouraging the Yankees. He followed that up on September 1st with another scoreless close. But last night, the old Chapman showed up in the ninth.

These shortcomings have led the Yankees to use various relievers to close games. For example, yesterday, with a short bullpen, the Yankees resorted to using Brooks Kriske in the ninth. However, the Toronto Blue Jays made quick work of him, getting 5 earned runs off him and sealing the Yankee’s fate.

Yankees have more concerns than that Rays

Since the collapse of the Red Sox, the Yankees and their fans have been concentrating on winning and watching what the Tampa Bay Rays were doing as we near the postseason. In the last month of the regular season, scoreboard watching is common as teams jockey for a higher place in the standings. With just three weeks left to the season, it appears the Rays have a lock on the AL East unless the Yankees start winning again and the Rays have a colossal collapse.

But there is more to watch, yesterday the Yankees were in danger of losing their home-field advantage in the wild card as it appeared the Red Sox would beat the Rays, but in the end, the Yankees were saved when the Rays won the game. As a result, the Yankees only have a 1/2 game advantage in the wild card. In the last week, the Toronto Blue Jays that the Yankees are now playing and the Seattle Mariners have advanced quickly with winning streaks and are now just 3 games out of the wild card. The Yankees cannot afford to lose more games against the Blue Jays.

Note: The Yankees continue their series against the Blue Jays on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. EDT. Yankee ace Gerrit Cole takes the mound against Steven Matz for the Jays. The game will be televised on the YES Network and SNET in Canada.

New York Yankees Recap: Yankees shut out by the Jays for third loss in a row

New York Yankees, Jameson Taillon

Today the New York Yankees entered a four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. The 1:05 pm Labor Day matinee featured Jameson Taillon on the mound for the Yankees and Hyun Jin Ryu, the Blue Jays ace on the mound for the Jays. The Blue Jays are coming into the Stadium hot after winning 7 of their last 10 games and stopping the Athletics shutting them out yesterday.

It is challenging to win a four-game series for any team, but with the Yankees wild card berth in jeopardy, the Yankees are going to have to put their best foot forward, pitch well, and hit well to put down a team that has nothing to lose as they are out of the postseason this year. The Yankees are just 1/2 a game ahead of the Red Sox in the wild card standings. Next is the Seattle Mariners surging recently with a 5 game winning streak. The Yankees looked to Taillon to right the ship after an embarrassing series loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Unfortunately for the Yankees things just got worse as they were shut out by the Blue Jays 8-0.

Jameson Taillon faced the DH George Springer in the first inning, who grounded out to Urshela at third. Marcus Semien homered to left. Vlad Guerrero Jr. also homered out to right. The third inning was led off by Springer, who worked a walk off Taillon. Semien flew out to Gallo in left. Guerrero Jr. reached on another E5 by Urshela. Bichette hit to center and was caught with a diving summersault by Gardner for an inning-ending double play. Gleyber Torres struck out swinging. Brett Gardner got a single up the middle. Gio Urshela ground out, but Gardner moved to second. LeMahieu ground out to leave Gardy stranded. Jays 2 Yankees 0.

Teoscar Hernandez led off the fourth by grounding out to short. Dickerson went down, tipping into  Sanchez’s glove. Gurriel Jr. ground out to LeMahieu for a 1-2-3 inning for Taillon. Joey Gallo led off the bottom by striking out. Judge ground out to short. Stanton went down swinging. Jays 2 Yankees 0.

The fifth inning was led off by Jansen, who popped out to short. Smith popped out to LeMahieu. Springer rocketed one directly to Gallo in left. Rizzo led off the bottom by singling to left. Sanchez popped out to first in foul territory. Torres went down on strikes. Gardner ground out to end the inning. Jays 2 Yankees 0.

The sixth inning was led off by Semiem, who lined out to center. Guerrero Jr. flew out to Stanton. Bichette popped out to end the half with Taillon only using 12 pitches in the last two innings. At the bottom, Urshela led off with a base hit to left. LeMahieu hit into a doubl play. Gallo went down looking. Jays 2 Yankees 0.

Teoscar Hernandez led off the seventh inning by walking and then stealing second. Dickerson struck out. Gurriel Jr. singled driving in Hernandez. Jansen flew out to left with Gallo fighting the sun. Gurriel made it back to first. Smith also flew out to Gallo, but the Jays tacked on a run. At the bottom Judge facing the new Jays’ pitcher, Trevor Richards struck out. Stanton struck out swinging. Rizzo singled to left on a drag bunt. Sanchez popped out to the infield to end the inning. Blue Jays 3 New York Yankees 0.

The eighth inning was led off by springer who struck out. Semien ground out to Urshela at third. Gierrero Jr. singled up the middle for a base hit. Bichette ground out to Urshela. At the bottom, Torres ground out to third. Voit pinch-hitting for Gardner went down looking. Urshela flew out to left-center to end the inning. Blue Jays 3 New York Yankees 0.

Hernandez led off the ninth by facing Brooks Kriske and homered to left. Randal Grichuk walked. Gurriel Jr. walked. Jansen struck out. Smith flew out to Rizzo. Jake Lamb pinch-hitting walked to load the bases. Semien got a Grand Slam to blow the game open. Guerrero Jr. singled to center.  Bichette popped out in the infield. At the bottom with last licks on the line for the New York Yankees, it was the top of the order. LeMahieu singled. Gallo struck out. Judge hit into a double play to end the games as the Yankees were shut out.

The final score was the Toronto Blue Jays 8 and the New York Yankees 0. The winning pitcher was Hyu Jin Ryu, and the loser was Jameson Taillon. It was the Yankees’ third loss in a row. It was the Blue Jay’s second shutout in a row.

The New York Yankees enter a difficult 4 game series with the Jays, here’s the preview

The New York Yankees after an embarrassing series loss to the worst team in baseball, the Baltimore Orioles, things get even more serious in their march to the postseason as they face the young and energetic Toronto Blue Jays for a four-game series at Yankee Stadium. The Blue Jays are coming into the series hot, winning 7 of their last 10 games and shutting out the Oakland Athletics 8-0 yesterday. The Yankees have lost 6 of ten and two series losses in a row.

Today, September 6, 1:05 pm EDT

On this Labor Day, the New York Yankees will start Jameson Taillon in the matinee game at Yankee Stadium. Taillon has been one of the most winning pitchers for the Yankees lately. The righty is 8-5 with an ERA of 4.44 and 131 strikeouts. However, he is coming off one of his worst starts of the season, giving up six runs in the Yankee loss to the Angels. However, before that, the Yankees won his last eight starts. Taillon will have to be very careful with Bo Bichette and Vlad Guerrero Jr. They have both hit .667 off him.

Taillon will face the Blue Jays ace Hyun Jin Ryu a lefty that is 12-8 with a 3.92 ERA and 121 strikeouts. Ryu is the Jays winningest pitcher. Nevertheless, he has not pitched well with the Jays losing three of his last four starts. Also, he has not gone deep into games in his last two starts, giving up 10 earned runs in the two losses. Anthony Rizzo and Luke Voit have Ryu’s number, both hitting .500 off him in 6 at-bats.

Tuesday, September 7, 7:05 pm EDT

Tuesday night, the Yankees will have ace Gerrit Cole on the mound facing the Jays’ Steven Matz. In his second season with the New York Yankees, Cole has, for the most part, been everything the Yankees could have asked for. The righty is 14-6 with an ERA of 2.73 and an incredible 215 strikeouts, being the most strikeouts for any MLB player this season. Few Blue Jays have been successful off Cole, but Vlad Guerrero Jr. has a .308 batting average off him.

Cole will face Steven Matz, a lefty that is 10-7 with an ERA of 3.80 and 116 strikeouts in 25 starts. Matz is coming off a win against the Baltimore Orioles, but prior he has two losses, both against the Detroit Tigers. Matz started the season hot winning his first four games, but he has been spotty since then. His last recorded win was on August 15th against the Mariners. Giancarlo Stanton has a .333 batting average off him with 2 home runs in 15 at-bats.

Wednesday, September 8, 7:05 pm EDT

The New York Yankees have not announced a pitcher for this game, although it will probably be Nestor Cortes Jr. or Luis Gil.

Whoever the Yankees choose, he will face the Jays’ Alek Manoah, a righty that is 5-2 with an ERA of 3.63 and 88 strikeouts in 15 starts. He is coming off a game the Jays won, but he gave up 6 earned runs in five innings of work. Although six Yankees have at-bats against him, none have gotten hits. He shut out the Yankees when he last faced them on May 27th.

Thursday, September 9, 7:05 pm EDT

Again the Yankees have not announced a starter for this game either; however, if they follow the normal rotation, it will be Jordan Montgomery or whoever doesn’t pitch in Wednesday.

Jose Berrios will start this game for the Blue Jays. The righty is 10-7 with an ERA of 3.55 and 169 strikeouts. It will be his 28th start of the season. He is coming off his tenth win of the season against the Oakland Athletics. However, the Jays have lost six of his last eight starts previously. Aaron Judge has his number hitting .600 off him in 5 at-bats. He has not faced the Yankees this season.

Notes: All of these games will be televised on the YES Network and SNET in Canada. The Wednesday and Thursday games will also be on MLBN out of market. After this four-game series, the Yankees will move to Citi Field to play a three-game set with the crosstown New York Mets.

Yankees News, 9/1: Anthony Rizzo, Jameson Taillon open up about losing streak, ‘no one’s excited’

anthony rizzo, yankees

The Yankees lost their fourth consecutive game on Tuesday evening against the Los Angeles Angels, further hurting their standings in the AL East. Thanks to Tampa Bay, coincidentally, the Boston Red Sox also lost, keeping the Bombers two games ahead in the Wild Card. However, they are now eight games back in the AL East with 30 games left in the season, making their trail back to first place a bit more tumultuous.

Realistically, there’s very little chance the Yankees come all the way back to secure a guaranteed spot in the postseason but will likely have to take down Boston to ensure their path.

However, they need to end this losing streak now, as they prepare to take on the Angels on Wednesday night at 7:07 PM. During yesterday’s loss, the Yankees had their opportunities to secure runs and win the game, as Giancarlo Stanton just missed a home run in the eighth inning to tie things up, but the ball fell just short of the warning track.

After the loss, starting first baseman Anthony Rizzo indicated that the team is still playing at a high level, they are just not extracting wins:

“I think we just stay the course,” first baseman Anthony Rizzo said. “It’s never easy coming out West, especially this late in the year. I think we’re continuing to have good team at-bats. Our pitching has been pretty solid. We just haven’t scored enough runs. I think we just stay the course and continue to build a belief that we’re not out of any game. This goes to show that every game we’re still playing until the end.”

Starting pitcher Jameson Taillon lasted 4.2 innings, giving up five hits and six earned runs, including a three-run blast in the fourth inning. Taillon stated that the team responds much better after winning; go figure.

“We’ve had to bounce back from a lot this year,” said starting pitcher Jameson Taillon, who got shelled for six runs Tuesday. “I can tell you winning is a lot more fun than losing. The vibe in the clubhouse is a lot more fun after we win. No one’s excited, but at the same time, we have the opportunity to come out here and at least salvage a game with Gerrit (Cole) on the mound (Wednesday) before we head back to New. York.”

During the Yankees’ most recent 13 game winning streak, their spirits were high, and confidence was elevated. This losing streak saw them come tumbling back down to earth, but there’s still plenty of time for them to string together wins and gain momentum heading into the playoffs. With Gerrit Cole on the mound Wednesday night, this is their best opportunity to turn the tables.

New York Yankees Recap: Yankees return to their old ways and lose 4 straight

New York Yankees, Jameson Taillon

After losing three in a row, the New York Yankees hoped to right the ship last night at Angels Stadium. The Tampa Bay Rays keep winning, so the Yankees couldn’t afford to lose more games. In the effort, the Yankees sent Jameson Taillon to the mound to face the Angel’s Jaime Barria. The Yankees’ had won Taillon’s last eight starts. Last night the Yankees lost their 4th game in a row 6-4.

DJ LeMahieu started the first inning against Barria by beating out a short hit for the first Yankee runner. Anthony Rizzo ground out to first, with LeMahieu advancing to scoring position. Aaron Judge walked as he didn’t come close to getting a ball to hit. Giancarlo Stanton hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the half. At the bottom, with Jameson Taillon on the mound, David Fletcher led off by popping out to LeMahieu for out number one. Shohei Ohtani flew out to the shallow left. Gosselin struck out swinging for a 1-2-3 inning for Taillon. No score.

The second inning was led off by Joey Gallo, who flew out to centerfield. Gio Urshela struck out swinging. Rougie Odor ground out to center for a fast inning for Barria. At the bottom, Jared Walsh led off and struck out. Jo Adell struck out for Taillon’s three strikeouts in a row. Brandon Marsh struck out as Taillon struck out the side. No score.

At the bottom, Max Stassi ground out to Odor at third. Jack Mayfield popped out to second. Juan Lagares struck out for Taillon’s third 1-2-3 inning. No score.

The fourth inning was led off by Rizzo, who homered to start the inning. Judge singled to left field. Stanton singled to far left. Gallo hit into a double play for the third Yankees double play in the game. Urshela flew out to right field to end the half, but the Yankees got on the board with Rizzo’s home run. Fletcher led off the bottom by singling in front of Judge. Fletcher stole second. Ohtani walked. Gosselin, with two on and no outs, bunted straight up caught by Sanchez. The Angels got a double steal. Moving the runners to second and third. Walsh hit a homer to right to put the Angels up two runs. Adell flew out to Gardner in center. Marsh went down on strikes. Los Angeles Angel 3 the New York Yankees 1.

Rougie Odor led off the fifth inning and struck out. Sanchez homered into the left-field stands. Gardner worked a walk. LeMahieu faced new Angels pitcher Jimmy Herget; Gardner stole second and ground out with Gardner moving to third base. Rizzo went down on strikes. At the bottom, Stassi singled just beyond Urshela as short. Mayfield doubled down the left-field foul line moving Stassi to third. Lagares ground out to third, holding the runners, one out. Fletcher lined sharply to Rizzo for the second out. Ohtani was intentionally walked. Gosselin singled, driving in two runs, and that was the night for Jameson Taillon. Gosselin initiated a double steal with Ohtani scoring. Walsh faced the new Yankee pitcher Joely Rodriguez and ground out to end the inning. Los Angeles Angels 6 New York Yankees 2.

The sixth inning was led off by Aaron Judge, who singled to right. Stanton hit into the Yankees’ fourth double play. Gallo went down, looking to end the half. Adell in the bottom popped out to Gallo. Marsh ground out to third. Stassi got a double that split the outfielders in left. Mayfield struck out. Angels 6 Yankees 2.

Gio Urshela led off the seventh and, facing new Angel’s pitcher Elvis Peguero, doubled down the right-field line. Odor was hit by a pitch advancing to first. Sanchez flew out to center, with Urshela taking third. Gardner hit into yet another double play to strand two. At the bottom, with Lucas Luetge on the mound, Lagares went down on strikes. Fletcher struck out. Ohtani popped out to Urshela in foul territory. Angels 6 Yankees 2.

The eighth inning was led off by LeMahieu, who singled up the middle. Rizzo doubled to right, moving LeMahieu to third base with no outs. Judge faced the new Angel’s pitcher Junior Guerro and singled, scoring LeMahieu. Stanton got a sac fly scoring Rizzo. Gallo walked, moving Judge to second. Urshela faced the next Angel pitcher Jake Petricka and struck out swinging. Luke Voit pinch hit for Odor and down on strikes. Boone made a curious move as Odor has gotten some big hits and would have been a lefty against a righty. At the bottom, Gosselin led off by striking out. Walsh flew out to Gardner. Adell chopped out to Velazquez at short to end the inning. Angels 6 Yankees 4.

With the last licks on the line for the Yankees in the ninth, Gary Sanchez stepped to the plate facing and Raisel Iglesias and struck out. Gardner struck out swinging. LeMahieu lined out to third to end the game and give the Yankees their fourth consecutive loss. The final score was the Los Angeles Angels 6 and the New York Yankees 4. The winning pitcher was Jimmy Herget, the loser Jameson Taillon and the save went to Raisel Iglesias.

New York Yankees: Yankees to have 3 games at Angels Stadium, here’s the preview

New York Yankees, Corey Kluber

Tonight the New York Yankees will start a 3 game set with the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium in Anaheim. The Yankees, after winning 13 consecutive games, are coming off of two losses in a row against the Athletics. The Angels, who have lost six of their last eight, will see the return of Corey Kluber to the mound for the Yankees. Kluber for the Yankees had a no-hitter before going in the IL with shoulder stiffness.

The Yankees are in a tight race with the Tampa Bay Rays for the lead in the AL East. The Yankees have slipped back to 6 games behind the Rays. They will hope for a series sweep of the Angels to prevent further slipping away and hoping for a gain in the standings.

Monday, August 30, 9:38 pm EDT

Tonight will see the return of Corey Kluber to the mound for the Yankees after missing three months of the season with a troublesome shoulder. Kluber never stopped throwing the ball but has had a slow rehab. He is coming off a Yankee win with the Somerset Patriots. Kluber bounced back from a two-run first inning in which he allowed three straight singles to start the outing. In 3 2/3 innings pitched, Kluber scattered two runs on five hits while striking out four, walking one, and hitting another on 60 pitches (39 strikes). Kluber, who had a no-hitter before hitting the IL, is 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA. Tonight’s start will be his twelfth of the season.

Kluber will likely not throw many more than 70 pitches in the game as he continues to build up. Manager Aaron Boone has let it be known that he will tandem Kluber with Andrew Heaney during his return to pitching complete games.

The Los Angeles Angels have not announced a starter for the game. The game will be televised on the YES Network and Bally Sports West.

Tuesday, August 31, 9:38 pm EDT

Tuesday night Jameson Taillon will take the mound for the Yankees, facing the pitching and hitting sensation Shohei Ohtani. The righty Taillon has been pitching well for the Yankees recently. He is 8-4 with an ERA of 4.18 and 125 strikeouts. It will be his 26th start of the season. The Yankees have won his last eight starts in a row. Taillon will have to watch out for Jose Iglesias; he has hit .750 off him in 8 at-bats.

Ohtani is 8-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 127 strikeouts. Although nearly having a lock on baseball’s MVP, Ohtani did not fare well against the Yankees when he faced them on June 30th. He lasted two outs giving up 7 earned runs to the Yankees. Other than that game that he would like to forget, he has pitched very well for the Angels. He is coming off a loss to the Orioles, but previously he won four straight. His record and ERA speak for itself. Because he only lasted 2/3 of an inning, few Yankees have faced him.

Wednesday, September 1, 7:07 pm EDT

Wednesday evening, the New York Yankees will have their righty ace on the mound, Gerrit Cole. Cole is 13-6 with an ERA of 2.80 with an incredible 200 strikeouts. Cole leads baseball in wins and is second in strikeouts 4 behind Zack Wheeler of the Phillies. Cole is coming off his 13th win in a contest with the Athletics; he struck out 9 in the game.

Cole will face Jaime Barria, a righty that is 2-2 with a 5.56 ERA. Barria has been both a starter and reliever for the Angels this season. They have lost his last four games. He has not gotten a win since July 30th. Many Yankees have not seen him pitch, but Joey Gallo spending most of his time in the same division as the Angels, has faced Barria 15 times, hitting just .133. Aaron Judge has faced him twice, getting hits each time; one was a home run. This game, like the others, will be on the YES Network, Bally Sports West; this one will also be on MLBN out of market.

New York Yankees, Aroldis Chapman

The New York Yankees entered last night’s first game with the Oakland Athletics after winning 11 straight games and looking for their 12th, for the first time since 1961. The Yankees are 10-0 in their last ten games and the Athletic 2-8 in their last ten, losing their last four games in a row. Lowrie struck out. Harrison got a base hit, moving Olsen to second. Moreland walked the bases loaded. Chapman walked in a run. Murphy struck out. Albert Abreu came in to face Canha, who walked reloading the bases. Marte ground out to second to end the inning, but the A’s picked up 3 runs in the inning. Yankees 6 A’s 5.

The seventh inning was led off by Velazquez, who tapped back to the pitcher. LeMahieu ground out to third. Rizzo had a sky-high pop-out to short. Marte in the bottom tapped back to Loaisiga pitching. Olsen ground out to LeMahieu. Lowrie flew out to Gallo to end the inning. Yankees 6 Athletics 6.

Aaron Judge led off the eighth inning and doubled to right field. Gallo walked. Stanton flew out to centerfield. Sanchez walked the bases loaded. Gardner popped out to the infield holding the runners. Urshela just off the IL today, and with the base loaded and two outs ground out to third, leaving the bases loaded with Yankees. At the bottom, Harrison against Loaisiga struck out. Moreland ground out to third for the second out. Chapman walked. Murphy struck out for two scoreless innings for Loaisiga. Yankees 6 A’s 6.

In the ninth inning, Velazquez led off and flew out to left-center. LeMahieu flew out to right. Rizzo walked on four pitches. Tyler Wade in as a pinch-runner. Wade stole second and, on an errant throw, went to third. Judge singled to center, scoring Wade for the one-run lead. Judge tried to steal second, and on review, was out. At the bottom, The Yankees send out Aroldis Chapman to close it out. Andrus flew out to Gardner in center. Canha struck out. Marte singled and stole second. Olsen who had 32 home runs on the season ground out to second for the Yankee’s 12th win in a row the most since 1961.

The final score was New York Yankees 7 the Oakland Athletics 6. The winning pitcher was Jonathan Loaisgia, the loser Lee Trivino, with the save going to Aroldis Chapman (24).

New York Yankees 4 game series with the dangerous Athletics, here’s the preview

New York Yankees, Jameson Taillon

The New York Yankees are coming off 11 straight wins and have gone 28-8 since July 17th, escalated them to just 4.5 games behind the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox are 3 games behind the Yankees and the Blue Jays 8 back from the Yanks. The pitiful Baltimore Orioles will lose over 100 games this season.

During this winning period, the Yankees have faced some pretty tough teams. Late in July, they took a series from the Tampa Bay Rays; they beat the White Sox and Seattle Mariners and swept the Boston Red Sox. They also did what they needed to against the lesser Marlins, Royals, and Orioles. In addition, they are coming off a series win of the number 1 Atlanta Braves. Now tonight, they start a four-game weekend set against the dangerous Oakland Athletics.

Earlier in the month, the New York Yankees were fighting for that second wildcard berth with the Athletics. Since then, the Yankees a gotten the first berth, and the Athletics have slipped 1.5 games behind Boston for the second spot. The Yankees are playing their best baseball of the season, and the Athletics not so much, only going 2-8 in their last ten and losing four in a row.  But because the A’s have not been great recently, the Yankees can’t be complacent; the A’s are a very dangerous team at the Oakland Coliseum.

Tonight, August 26, 9:40 pm

Tonight the Yankees will start Jameson Taillon, who has been the Yankee’s best pitcher during their 28-8 winning streak. The righty is 8-4 with an ERA of 3.94 with 121 strikeouts. The Yankees have won all of his last seven starts. He is coming off his 8th win of the season against the Minnesota Twins, although he gave up three runs in 5.1 innings of work. Tonight is the exact same matchup as when the Yankees met up with the A’s on June 18th. The Yankees lost that game, but Taillon only gave up two runs. Wandy Peralta took the loss when he gave up 3 runs in the sixth inning.

Taillon will face one of the Athletics’ best pitchers in righty James Kaprielian who is 7-4 with a 3.25 ERA and 87 strikeouts. Kaprielian is coming off three straight wins, two against the Rangers and the most recent against the Giants. Kappy isn’t going to be happy when he sees Joey Gallo as a Yankee. Gallo has 7 at-bats against him, hitting .571. DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge have also hit .333 against the righty.

Friday, August 27, 9:40 pm

Friday night, New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will be on the mound for his third start since coming off the Covid list. Cole is  12-6 with a 2.92 ERA and an incredible 191 strikeouts. Cole has the second-most strikeouts in the American League. Cole has not faced the Athletics this season. In the past, only Elvis Andrus has hit well off of Cole.

Cole will face lefty Sean Manaea; he is 8-8 with an ERA of 3.77 and 151 strikeouts. Manaea is coming off two losses in a row. In the Rangers loss, he gave up seven earned runs in 5 innings of work.  The last time he faced the Yankees on June 20, he took the loss. Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu, and Gary Sanchez have pretty much had their way with Manaea all going .333 or better off him.

Saturday, August 28, 4:07 pm

The Saturday matinee will pit Nestor Cortes Jr. against Frankie Montas. Cortes has been a blessing for the Yankees since taking over for the injured Corey Kluber. The Yankees won 6 of his 8 starts as he was stretched from being a reliever to a starter. His last win was against the Twins when he threw 104 pitches, getting seven strikeouts giving up only 2 runs. Half of the A’s have never seen Cortes pitch. Only Matt Olsen has been successful off him.

Cortes will face Frankie Montas, 9-9, with an ERA of 3.84 and 161 strikeouts. Only the ex-Ranger Yankees have faced Montas, Rougie Odor, and Joey Gallo have hit well off of him.  Montes is coming off two straight losses, one against the White Sox and one against the Giants.

Sunday, August 29, 7:08 pm

Sunday evening’s game will feature Jordan Montgomery on the mound for the Yankees and Paul Blackburn for the A’s. “Monty” is a lefty that is 5-5 with an ERA of 3.69 and 123 strikeouts. As suggested by his ERA, Monty is a better pitcher than his record. For all Yankee pitchers, he has the misfortune of getting the least run support. The Yankees had won his last four starts, including his most recent won over the Atlanta Braves when he gave up just one run. Josh Lorie and Matt Olson have Montgomery’s number.

Paul Blackburn, a righty, has a limited record of 0-1 with an ERa of 4.09 and 8 strikeouts. Blackburn has only pitched two games for the A’s, losing both of them. Blackburn has an odd baseball history kicking around for 8 years that injuries have marred. He hit the majors 5 years ago with the A’s, but he has only pitched 23 innings in those five years. Only Rougie Odor has seen him pitch; he has a .333 average off him.

Notes: All game times given are Eastern Daylight Time. The Thursday and Friday games are televised on the YES Network and NBCSCA in California. Saturday will be on NBCSCA and in the New York area on WPIX and its affiliates. The Sunday night game will be nationally televised only on ESPN. When the New York Yankees conclude this series they will move on to Los Angeles to play a 3-game series with the Angels, before returning to the Stadium to play the Orioles.

New York Yankees: 4 Major takeaways from Yankee win over the Twins

New York Yankees, Aaron Boone, jameson taillon

Last night after sweeping the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees started game one of a four-game series at Yankee Stadium against the Minnesota Twins. They won game one 7-5 on their way to another series win. The win last night was the Yankees’ seventh in a row.

Jameson Taillon okay in Yankee win

Jameson Taillon, who has been the best Yankee pitcher over the past six weeks, sailed through the first five innings last night, putting away 15 Twins hitters. But then came the sixth inning when a Cave home run ended his night. He struck out five without issuing a walk. Even though he gave up three runs, he kept the Yankees in the game.

Wandy Peralta came in and pitched 1.2 perfect innings. He was replaced by Zack Britton and Chad Green, who both gave up a run. The Yankee offense held up the pitching giving those pitchers seven runs to work with. Taillon got the win, and Green got the save.

Velazquez emerging as a Yankee spark

Since Andrew Velazquez was brought up from the Rail Riders in recent games, he seems to be involved in a Yankees win with either offense or defense or both. He has been providing a spark that has been missing a good part of the year. Just like the addition of Rougie Odor earlier in the season, he seems to have helped change the culture of the Yankees. adding more excitement to games. Last night the young shortstop had a standup triple, stole a base, and went two for three on the night.

Home runs remain king for the Yankees

The new and improved New York Yankees have recently found ways to win games where they don’t hit home runs. But make no mistake about it, the home run is still king for a team built around those long balls. Last night in the fourth inning, backup catcher Kyle Higasioka hit a homer. In the eighth inning, Giancarlo Stanton hit a cheap one into the short porch in right. The Yankees won the game by two runs.

Severino: Good and bad news

First, the bad former ace pitcher Luis Severino may not pitch in the big leagues this season. The good news is that his recent setback may not be as big of a problem as it could have been. Severino was removed from a rehab start with shoulder tightness. He was sent for an MRI and showed there was no structural damage. Nonetheless, he was sent for a second opinion which confirmed that there indeed were no structural problems.

He will probably not throw this week as they go slow with Severino; also, he will travel with the team and may see a specialist there on the west coast tour.

On brighter news, reliever Clay Holmes that has been so good for the New York Yankees is nearing a return from the Covid list; he could rejoin the team during this series.
