Giancarlo Stanton Will Be a Menace For the New York Yankees in 2020

New York Yankees, Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton

New York Yankees fans always have that one good player they hate. I’m guilty of this, thinking Giancarlo Stanton was a huge disappointment in 2018 at first until I looked beyond batting average and strikeouts and realized something. Giancarlo Stanton was pretty darn good in 2018, and on top of that will (if healthy) continue to slug and become that MVP caliber talent again in 2020.

“He Strikes Out Too Much”

This is a common problem gripe people have with Giancarlo Stanton, he happens to strike out a ton and that looks bad for people watching him. In 2018 he logged 211 strikeouts, which is a lot of swings and misses to say the least. The question I have is; Does it really matter if he misses? Think about it like this, as a compromise for missing pitches, when he does hit the ball, 50.5% (more than half) of them will be hit harder than 95 MPH.

Hitting the baseball hard will come with swings and misses, but that’s fine because the total amount of bases the player will gain will be much higher. Lower K% numbers don’t correlate to better hitting, but higher hard-hit % does correlate to better hitting. Examples of this are in 2019, the lowest K% numbers 1-5 were Hanser Alberto, David Fletcher, Yuli Gurriel, Michael Brantley, and Kevin Newman. Michael Brantley and Yuli Gurriel are the best hitters of the 5, but Gurriel was outperforming his expected stats, and Brantley was too, but not as much as Gurriel. The best hitters in baseball aren’t just players who make contact, but the ones who make the best type of contact.

Already Started Off Great

In 2018 Giancarlo Stanton posted a 129 wRC+ with a 4.3 fWAR and a 360 wOBA while clobbering 38 Home Runs. He had a dominant offensive season and there’s no way to say otherwise. He had regressed from his MVP season in 2017 in all areas but showed to still be a very good baseball player and definitely a star slugger. He saw a drag in his stats early on, wherefrom Opening Day to June 12th, he had only been able to slash .238/.315/.475 and had a 16.27 HR/AB ratio. After that? We saw the return of the monster we were hoping for, as after a 3-4 performance on June 13th, he kicked off a red hot tour where he slashed .281/.361/.531 and still maintaining a 16.22 HR/AB ratio. He showed progression and even his short stint in 2019 showed that same promise offensively

How Does Stanton Fit In the AL MVP Race?

While he isn’t even the best player on his team (That’d be Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole), he’s still a very good baseball player. While he wouldn’t be my pick for MVP, don’t be surprised if he can get innings in the outfield to help his fWAR (as he has good defensive metrics) and slugs his way into the talks at least. In my opinion Stanton will have a great season, and there is a lot in terms of numbers that indicate that as well.

For me Stanton is poised to post a 140-150 wRC+ with a 4.0 fWAR (due to a short season) and maintain a really good HR/AB ratio. Giancarlo Stanton is elite still, and if you’re going to say otherwise, then I’m sorry that you decide to be wrong about this great slugger.

New York Yankees Player Profiles: Giancarlo Stanton can he regain 2017 form?

The Baseball superstar Giancarlo Stanton

Like many New York Yankees players, there are some we know and some we don’t know about their private lives. Stanton is no different, but here is what we do know. He is liked by many Yankees fans because he is a great player and disliked by many because he makes so much money, is frequently injured, and doesn’t always hit the ball.

His early life in California

But back to his early life. He was born to Michael Stanton and Jacinta Garay in Los Angeles, California, on November 8, 1989. He has an older brother and older sister. He was brought up in the Sunland-Tujunga area of Los Angels near the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.

In Stanton’s mind as a child, he didn’t care for his given name. Friends called him Carlo or Gene; his Mother called him Cruz (his middle name) although she wanted to name him Fidel, the Father objected. So Giancarlo decided he wanted to be called Mike from now on, and so it was until 2012 when he reinstated his preference for his real name Giancarlo. Stanton is of Irish African American descent, although his mother had Puerto Rican ancestry.

The future Yankee Giancarlo was a dominant player in just about every youth league sport he tried, including football. He continued playing sports after enrolling at Verdugo Hills High in Tujunga in 2003. He pitched and played the outfield for the varsity baseball squad. In 2005, as a sophomore, he hit a game-winning homer for the Dons in the quarterfinals of the city playoffs.

Unfortunately, Giancarlo’s grades were not measuring up to his stats. His parents, in the process of a divorce, switched him to a private school, Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, about 30 minutes away. Almost immediately, Giancarlo began coming into his own, both on and off the field. As he approached his final height of 6’6″ and packed on more muscle, few doubted he would make a living in sports. The only question was, which sport? He had accepted a scholarship to play baseball for Tulane and received offers from UCLA, UNLV, and USC to play football.

Stanton selected by the Miami Marlins

In 2007 when selected by the Miami Marlins in the second round of the draft, he was happy to receive a half-million signing bonus. He was again considering the Miami location, glad that he was not named Fidel. In 2008, Giancarlo spent the entire season with the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the Class-A South Atlantic League. Playing for manager Edwin Rodriguez, he was just 18 when the season started, but he torched enemy pitchers for 39 homers in 125 games. Giancarlo followed up his first campaign in pro ball with an outstanding 2009 season, as he moved steadily up the organizational ladder.

He spent 50 games with the Jupiter Hammerheads and hit .291 with 12 homers. Giancarlo started the 2010 season back in Jacksonville. That May, in a game against the Montgomery Biscuits, he hit a ball that cleared the scoreboard in left-centerfield later to be found to have gone 500′ from home plate. A month later, Giancarlo had surpassed 20 homers in just over 50 games. He got the call from the big club and was in the lineup at age 20 on June 8 against the Philadelphia Phillies with a $325 million contract.

In Stanton’s first major league game, he went 3 for 5 with two RBI’s. He continued to have success after success and award after award: two Silver Sluggers, two Hank Aarons, two home run Leaders, four All-stars, until he reached the MVP of the National League in 2017.

Giancarlo Stanton becomes a New York Yankee

After the 2017 season the Marlins dumped salary, Giancarlo Stanton was traded to the New York Yankees after a 59 home run season. The trade was for cash considerations, and the Marlins got Starlin Castro and minor leaguers. In 2018 he made his New York Yankees debut hitting two homers in his first game. He ended up the year with 38 homers and 100 RBI’s. Although he carried the team during Judge’s injuries and that of others, many fans criticized him for his team-leading 211 strikeouts.

On April 1, 2019, in a cruel April fools joke placed him on the 10 day IL with a bicep strain, he returned to the lineup on June 20 only to go back on the IL seven days later with a knee injury that limited him to just nine days on the playing field last season. With the Yankees unrelenting injuries last year and the departure to the IL of Hicks, Tauchman, and Encarnacion, the Yankees looked forward to his return to the outfield. Manager Aaron Boone is hoping Giancarlo can have a big impact on the postseason.  He came back to play in nine games in September, but then went back on the IL.

Stanton came back from a knee ailment in time to play in the ALDS against the Minnesota Twins. He wasn’t much help as in three games, he hit .167 with no home runs and only 1 RBI.  Stanton suffered a right quad injury during Game 1 of the ALCS against the Astros while running out a single in the second inning. He went on to hit a home run in the sixth during the Yankees’ 7–0 win before the club realized after the game he was injured.

Will Stanton return to form?

Health continued to be an issue for Stanton in the shortened spring training season this year.  He played in only one New York Yankees game with two at-bats when he endured a grade one calf strain.  He sat out the remaining spring training rehabbing.  The delay at the start of the season has allowed him to completely recover, and he is ready for play.  The Yankees hope he can remain healthy because when playing, he plays well.  The Yankees know his potential and hope he can return to the 2017 MVP form.

As I have said before, Stanton’s private life is pretty private, he is not married but has been attached to several beautiful women over the years. He supposedly has a main squeeze right now, but it is doubtfully not the only one based on the previous history. On the lighter side, women know and appreciate Stanton as a sex symbol. In 2013 he posed gold clad, and nude for ESPN’s body issue, something Bryce Harper of the then Nationals, Rob Gronkowski of the Patriots, among others, have done as well. Other than that, there are no scandals attached to his name.

The New York Yankees boast enviable outfield depth

New York Yankees, Aaron Hicks

The New York Yankees received some great news on Tuesday: Aaron Hicks, the team’s starting center fielder, is ramping up his training at home and can be seen performing several exercises in an Instagram post.

The slick-fielding switch hitter can be seen taking batting practice, sprinting on a treadmill, and throwing around a large medicine ball at his Florida home.

Hicks, currently 30 years old, is one of the Yankees’ best and most important players when healthy. He remains a two-way contributor thanks to his fielding prowess in center field and his powerful bat from both sides of the plate. Having him back when (or should we say if?) the season restarts is crucial for the Bombers.

The Yankees have an outfield of stars

However, the New York Yankees can brag about having one of the best and deepest outfield corps in the majors.
And, to the surprise of some, the Yankees’ outfield is not only excellent with the bat, but it is also filled with more than capable defenders. Aaron Judge has a case for being the best right fielder in the game (with a 7.6 defensive rating in Fangraphs and a league-leading 20 DRS), while Hicks, Brett Gardner and Mike Tauchman are also usual contributors with the glove and with the wood.

And if that isn’t enough, the Yankees also have Giancarlo Stanton’s underrated glove capable of playing in left field. He is, however, best known for his bat, and rightfully so. The presence of Clint Frazier and the possibility of Miguel Andujar playing some reps in left field really complicates matters when it comes to finding playing time for everyone involved, but manager Aaron Boone knows that, with that kind of depth, his club can cope with an injury or two.

As you can see, the Yankees could field two outfields capable of starting at any level. That speaks volumes about the organization’s player development and scouting staff. Let’s just hope there is a season to play.

Yankees news, 5/17/20: DJ LeMahieu approaching murky future, Yanks could play at home in 2020

New York Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton

Your top New York Yankees links of the day:

Chris Cwik | Yahoo Sports: While baseball is far from being a reality in New York City, team owners and players are debating over the financial structure of what a shortened season might look like. Whether the players are forced to take a significant pay cut or earn a prorated contract, decisions must be made before baseball can return. However, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated that he is optimistic baseball could be played in the state. That means the Yankees and Mets could be playing home games this year, but it would likely feature no fans.

Ultimately, individual states need to determine if it is safe to host games. With the coronavirus pandemic is slowly deteriorating, taking proper precautions is the safest way to ensure the health of the players, which remains a major factor. New York is currently not allowing large gatherings, which indicates the Yankees could be playing at an alternative location for the time being. If things gradually return to normal, they could return to the Bronx within the next few months.

George A. King III | New York Post: There’s still a possibility that DJ LeMahieu might not play a single inning during the 2020 season, and that would spell the end of his contract with the Yankees. General manager Brian Cashman likely wants to retain the invaluable utility man, but it comes down to money and timing.

“I don’t know how free agency is going to go. I’m more concerned with this season,’’ LeMahieu said, via the New York Post. “Hopefully we can get out there on the field soon and play as many games as possible this season. I think it would be a huge boost for New York and our country.’’

Andres Chavez | Empire Sports Media: Giancarlo Stanton struggled to remain healthy in 2019, but that doesn’t mean he can’t bounce back with a great performance in 2020. Before joining the Yankees, Stanton was rarely injured, but something about up North has hurt his durability. He’s only two years removed from 59 home run performance with the Miami Marlins, and he’s expected to break out with the Yanks eventually, whether it be this season or next.

Here is why Giancarlo Stanton is the Yankees’ top candidate to lead the team in homers

New York Yankees, Giancarlo Santon

Between Gleyber Torres’ continued development, both Aarons (Judge and Hicks) health and DJ LeMahieu’s contract status, one talented New York Yankees‘ slugger isn’t getting enough attention. That, and of course, the fact that, for some people, he is “constantly” injured and had a “down” 2018, his last full season.

Yes, Giancarlo Stanton couldn’t manage to stay healthy in 2019, battling a myriad of physical issues that limited him to 18 games. And yes, if you compare his 38 home runs with the 59 he hit in 2017 with the Miami Marlins, you will surely be disappointed. But when a batter has a .266/.343/.509 line, a 129 wRC+, over 100 runs and RBI, and almost 40 homers and people are still bummed, well, you know you set some lofty standards.

Stanton is perhaps the New York Yankees’ purest slugger. He is capable of going on a home run binge and knock 15 or 20 balls out of the park in a 45 game span. And, believe us, few players work harder on their physique than him.

The Yankees’ premier slugger

If health cooperates, Stanton could lead the Yankees in home runs and RBI and here is why:

  1. He should be healthy to open the season, if there is one, of course. Stanton suffered a Grade 1 calf strain in late February that limited during spring training, but that is well in the rearview mirror now.
  2. There is no certainty that the Yankees’ other prime candidate to lead the team in home runs, Aaron Judge, will be healthy to start the season. He is still battling a rib injury.
  3. He should rotate between left field and the designated hitter spot, keeping fresh throughout the season – in theory.
  4. He has averaged 34.75 home runs in seasons he has played 100 or more games. That is a very high floor.
  5. He is among the yearly leaders in average exit velocity and peak exit velocity, per Statcast data. Few batters hit the ball harder than Stanton when he is right.

All in all, we should get past the fact that some nagging injuries derailed his 2019 season, and concentrate on the things that Stanton does right that can justify his lofty contract: hitting home runs. And, if healthy, he will knock his fair share of balls out of the park.

New York Yankees: The Keys to the Yankees success in 2020

New York Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge

The New York Yankees are more than ready to have the delayed baseball season start anew.  The coronavirus has had and will have an effect on the 2020 season.  The Yankees will probably only play 80 to 100 games this season in accordance with what MLB comes up with in their dealings with owners, players, and health officials.  A shortened season could help players and pitchers that tend to tire during a 162 game season.  Starting the season when its warm could also help pitchers that don’t perform as well until it heats up.

Besides the impact of the coronavirus, the New York Yankees are going to have to depend on key players to perform well enough to help the Yankees get to their 28th World Championship.  Taking a look at different players some stand out as being more key than others.  What I mean by that is that some players will play as they consistently do.  Players like DJ LeMahieu and Brett Gardner.  The Yankees will also look to Gio Urshela to prove that his play last year wasn’t a fluke.

Here are the keys to the New York Yankees’ success in 2020.  The duo of Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge must stay healthy and perform to their known abilities.  With both of the sluggers, their health will be closely watched.  We already know that Aaron Judge may not be ready to start the season.  The Yankees hope that he doesn’t miss a large part of the shortened season.  Stanton who is ready for the season needs to play more as he did in 2017.  In 2018 Stanton hit 38 home runs with a .852 OPS which is about 150 points less than 2017, yet very acceptable.

Stanton in 2019 Stanton played even better bringing that OPS back up to .900 while hitting a home run in every six games.  The problem with Stanton is that he played in only 18 games during the season.  The difference in Stanton playing 18 or 100 games will have a huge impact on the 2020 Yankees.  With Judge, he will play well home much of an impact he can have on the season will depend on him staying on the field once he has healed from his rib injury.

The success of the Yankees will also have a lot to do with if Gleyber Torres can repeat his hitting success and at the same time adequately Mann his shortstop position.  There is little hope that he will be a standout at short, the Yankees just hope he doesn’t flop at the position.  If he does flop it will also affect his bat as he won’t see as much playing time.  You can also be sure the general manager Brian, Cashman will be seriously working behind the scenes to get free-agent Francisco Lindor. Lindor has already said that he is not interested in playing for the Indians when he contract runs out at the end of the 2020 season.

To no less degree, the Yankees are hoping that Luke Voit will stay healthy this year and have an impact.  If there is any player that could have a break out year, it’s Luke Voit.  Via the way of injuries, Luke has never been ever to show his real worth. He has always played well in his three years in the majors, his problem has been staying on the field.  The most games he has ever played in a season is 118 last year.  Based on no improvement in his play from last year, playing a full season he could hit over 30 home runs and drive in 90 to 100 runs. Those totals will be adjusted by how many games are actually played.

The duo of James Paxton and J.A. Happ will be paramount to the Yankee’s success.  Both pitchers could bomb or excel.  Paxton closed out the season last year with the Yankees winning 11 straight games to end the season.  But he had only 4 wins earlier in the season.  With Happ last year he had a respectable 12-8 season, however, coming to the Yankees halfway through the 2018 season he went 7-0.  If the Yankees get the 7-0 Happ, it will be a huge help to the Yankees in their quest for another championship.

The wild card this season is Miguel Andujar,  how he performs this season could tell what his future will be with the New York Yankees.  Because he has no particular place to play the Yankees will be depending even more on his bat.  In 2018 he hit 27 home runs with .855 OPS.  One of the keys to his success behind the plate is if he can still be that doubles machine that he was in 2018.  In spring training he did not perform well, he had only 1 home run in 11 games and batted only .228. This season the Yankees will have to decide if there is a place for Andujar or if he is more valuable as a trading piece.

New York Yankees: Aaron Boone provides an injury update on four key players

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks hits a home-run against the Tampa Bay Rays.

New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone gave us an injury update on four key players in a recent radio interview.

Giancarlo Stanton

Stanton was diagnosed with a grade one calf strain in spring training. He had just two plate appearances and was expected to miss an extended period of time.

“He’s doing really well and should be good to go whenever we get ready to go back,” said Boone of Stanton.

Aaron Hicks

Hicks injured his arm in August, and the team thought that he would be able to avoid Tommy John surgery. He was able to return for part of the postseason, but more tests after the season showed that he did need Tommy John.

“He’s doing really well,” said Boone. “He’s already doing soft toss from both sides of the plate and throwing out to 90+ feet.”

Hicks could potentially be the first player to undergo Tommy John surgery in the offseason and still play on Opening Day.

James Paxton

Paxton underwent surgery in February to remove a peridiscal cyst in his back.

“James Paxton, who’s gonna be ready in mid-May, is on that timeline,” said the third-year skipper. “He’s already thrown five or six bullpens, and I think he actually threw a sim game yesterday to a couple guys where he is. His rehab has gone really really well.”

Aaron Judge

Judge was sidelined at the beginning of Spring Training due to a fractured rib and collapsed lung sustained in September of 2019.

“He’s due for another CT scan, I believe in couple more weeks,” said Boone. “This time down has allowed that rib, that bone, to continue to heal.”

With the season possibly beginning next month, the Yankees hope that players will be able to report soon if they choose to.

New York Yankees: What will the Yankees face upon return to George M. Steinbrenner Field?

New York Yankees, Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton

It appears the New York Yankees will be returning to George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida in the next two weeks to resume where they left off in spring training, some players are already there, and some may show up as soon as this weekend.  But what will the Yankees face upon their return?

A restart to training

Back in March, when MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred abruptly halted spring training, the Yankees were just getting into gameplay.  When it became evident that the season would not be starting anytime soon, due to the coronavirus, many players left the area and headed home.  About a half dozen players remained at the facility or in the area.

Now that a second spring training appears likely Yankees from all over the country will again convene in sunny Florida to resume what they started nearly two months ago.  How long that spring training will last, depends upon the start of the regular season which, will be decided upon by MLB and health officials, but most sources agree it will not be until late June or July 4th at the latest.  That will give the Yankees another four or five weeks to sharpen up for the new shortened season.

Most New York Yankee players have tried to stay in form by various methods, some in their own gyms or commercial gyms that have allowed them to work out solo.  Pitching coach Matt Blake has let veteran pitchers handle their own programs but has remained close to the other newer pitchers taking an active hand in how they go about staying ready, from his home in Ohio.  And yet some players remained close to the complex in Tampa and have used that facility to stay ready.

The Injury front

Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Gary Sanchez have remained at the Florida complex to continue rehabbing from injuries.  Luis Severino returned their a few weeks after his Tommy John surgery to start the rehab program that will keep him off the mound throughout the 2020 season.  James Paxton, who had back surgery before the start of spring training, is rehabbing at his home outside of Seattle.  And although Domingo German is not injured he is suspended for the first 60 games of when a season starts.

Giancarlo Stanton is recovering from an ornery grade one calf strain.  Gary Sanchez has been recovering from a sore back.  The time-delayed season has allowed them to fully recover and be ready for the start of spring training 2.0.  James Paxton’s recovery from back surgery has gone better than expected, and although he may not be ready to pitch in spring training, it is assumed that he will be ready for a regular-season start.

The Aaron Judge situation is a bit less clear.  Back at the end of last season, the New York Yankees star suffered a broken rib and a partially collapsed lung that was not fully diagnosed until spring training and did not allow him to play in any spring training games.  The collapsed lung has resolved itself, and the delayed start of the season has allowed him to continue to heal from the fracture.  But, as late as earlier this week, Yankee manager Aaron Judge has not been able to say he will be ready to play at the beginning of the season.

What environmental factors will affect Flordia games?

The Tampa, Florida area is and was less affected by the coronavirus than other areas of the country, especially the New York City area that was and still is the epicenter for the virus.  Florida has allowed restaurants to reopen as long as they keep at 50% capacity, businesses can operate as long as they adhere to social distancing.  Gyms and fitness centers can operate under the same guidelines.

Phase two of Florida’s re-opening plan will take place tomorrow as long as there is no evidence of a rebound or resurgence of COVID-19 cases and satisfies the benchmarks outlined in this Safe. Smart. Step-by-Step.plan, which to date seems to be a go. Phase two will allow George. M. Steinbrenner Field to open with fans in the stands.  The Florida directive states the venues of large spectator sporting events shall be at only 50% of capacity while maintaining social distance.  This would mean for the Stadium to comply; it should limit fans to about 25% or about 2,500 fans.

There will also be other changes imposed by the Yankees or MLB itself. Players may be banned from the dugout and be relegated to sitting in the stands while maintaining distance.  They might also be required to wear masks. The media will be severely limited and will not be allowed into the clubhouse, and will only be allowed to interview players and coaches at a distance.  The Yankees will make every effort to make sure players, stadium workers, and fans alike are as safe as possible.

New York Yankees head back to Tampa soon, and continue the COVID-19 fight

Could spring training start as early as next week?

The New York Yankees mull no less than a dozen plans to get the boys of summer back on the field.  It should be noted that MLB has no starting time for a season to begin, but it does appear to be getting closer.  The plans for a regular-season includes two different geographic plans, A situation that would involve all games for all 30 teams played in Arizona seems to be losing support.

One of the newest plans is to realign teams to play in three divisions regardless of league affiliation.  For the New York Yankees that would mean they would be playing against all AL East coast AL teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays.  It also means they would be playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Washington Nationals, and the Florida Marlins of the National League.  The teams in the center of the country would be banded into the Central League, and the West coast teams with the addition of the two Texas teams would make up the West League or division.

The latest plan seems to be gaining favor.  There is also a plan out there that would have spring training start at home stadiums.  This writer feels that is unlikely as major baseball hubs like New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles are still dealing with many new cases of the coronavirus daily and are still under stiff restrictions.  Although Bob Nightengale of USA Today said this is possible, NYC Major de Blasio said Yankee Stadium will not be used until August at the earliest.  It is more likely that as spring training starts, teams will find themselves in the traditional Florida and Arizona locations.

There are several reports that the New York Yankees may be headed to George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida as early as this weekend. Some half dozen or so Yankee players are already in the area.  We know that at least Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Luis Severino are at the facility. The Yankees may be looking at starting some spring training activities sometime next week.

At present, the general consensus is that a regular-season could start as soon as the last week of June or early in July.  But that timeline is dependant on a reduction in new cases of the virus and the availability of wide-spread testing.  When the season actually starts will be up to MLB and health officials, and will likely start with no fans in the stands.  A more concrete plan to start baseball should be forthcoming in the next two weeks.

More Yankees take part in coronavirus relief

The latest New York Yankee to step up to the plate and provide for coronavirus relief is none other than General Manager Brian Cashman.  Cashman is no stranger to causes such as efforts to keep children from going hungry to bringing attention to the needs of the homeless.  Cashman on May 14 will have a virtual experience at the Family Center. The minimum $25 dollar participation fee with go to the Family Centers’ Emergency Family Assistance Fund.  The organization has turned their efforts to aid hard-hit Fairfield County, CT, residents most affected by the coronavirus.

Yankee outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is working with Voodoo Manufacturing to supply health workers in California and New York with hard reusable face shields.    The original shipments will be 6,000 new shields to both locations and an additional 3,000 to follow.  Stanton in addressing the needs of the health field said that this is not the end, he will continue to investigate needs and will act as he evaluates needs.

“Obviously we’ve never seen anything like this. It just seems like every new notification on our phones, or however we get our information, isn’t positive. You’ve got to keep moving forward, see what you can do while staying at home.” Stanton said.

Many other New York Yankees players have made donations and giving aid in many ways to lessen the impact of the coronavirus.  Aaron Judge has recently empowered Bronx, New York children in need, as they adapt to classes online.  Judge has donated thousands of headphones to help with those classes.

New York Yankees’ outfielder Giancarlo Stanton donates 15.000 face shields

New York Yankees, Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton

Because of the coronavirus crisis affecting the world and, most notably, the United States, MLB had to suspend the start of the 2020 season. New York Yankees‘ fans, as well as the other 29 teams, are currently waiting for an official resolution regarding the future of the season, if there is one. All parties are optimistic, though.

In the meantime, society, especially healthcare professionals, are doing everything they can to ensure that the virus stops spreading so quickly, in addition to treating patients in need.

Thankfully, people are helping within the limits of their own possibilities. Yankees’ outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is among them, as he is donating 15,000 reusable face shields to medical professionals in Southern California and New York.

As you probably know by now, face shields are a powerful barrier to prevent the virus from spreading with ease. The COVID-19, as it is also named, has killed thousands of people around the planet since its appearance late in 2019.

Each area, (Southern California and New York) will get 6,000 face shields. They will be distributed among several places and facilities. Stanton also promised 3,000 additional face shields in the near future, according to a report from MLB.com.

The Yankees’ slugger keeps working out

The 30-year old New York Yankees’ superstar is currently working out at the George M. Steinbrenner Field facility in Tampa, Fla.

“I’ve seen the growing needs of the healthcare workers,” Stanton told the New York Post. “I’ve kind of been doing research and seeing what they need the most, what can benefit them through the long haul of this. I know they’ve had to exchange masks throughout the day, and with the limitation on masks in general, I thought it would be a smart idea to get those face shields to cut that number down.”

Also in Stanton’s plans is directing some face shields to the Miami area, where he played eight seasons with the Marlins.

“It’s wild, man,” Stanton said. “Obviously, we’ve never seen anything like this. It just seems like every new notification on our phones, or however we get our information, isn’t positive. You’ve got to keep moving forward, see what you can do while staying at home.

“When there isn’t any positive news out there, for me it’s just trying to keep ready to go, keep a positive mindset, try to improve things, learn new things, better myself. Always. That’s really all you can do.”
