New York Yankees: Cameron Maybin Begins Rehab With A Bang

New York Yankees, Cameron Maybin

New York Yankees outfielder Cameron Maybin began his rehab assignment on Tuesday, and he got it off with a bang. He went 4-for-5 with a home run and a double. His home run was a solo shot.

On Wednesday, he went 0-for-2 but drew a walk before being removed. He led off in both games.

Because of the severity of his calf strain, Maybin will likely be in rehab for a bit longer before getting called up. But the question is, will Maybin be done in pinstripes?

A Tough Decision Looms

Mike Tauchman has been red hot. His average is around .270 and sits at about .400 since he was called up again. He is relatively fast and also has a solid glove and is proving to be an overall better option than Frazier.

But do the Yankees send Tauchman down when Maybin is ready? Or do they try and find a way to hold onto Maybin and keep Tauchman in the MLB?

I think that the Yankees should keep Tauchman in the majors and DFA Maybin. I really like Maybin, but Tauchman is playing great and by the looks of it, the scouting department has found another diamond in the rough.

By DFA’ing Maybin, you still technically have a shot at retaining him, but the chances are that he will be claimed very quickly.

Another potential option could be to try and involve Maybin in a trade package for pitching in a hope to possibly hold onto prospects like Clint Frazier of Deivi Garcia.

Or, the Yankees could just try to have 13 position players again and have only 12 pitchers.

Once Maybin is completely ready, the Yankees will be forced to make more tough decisions.

Will the New York Yankees really trade Clint Frazier?

New York Yankees, Clint Frazier

Are the New York Yankees willing to trade Clint Frazier for a pitcher?

If the New York Yankees realistically want a quality pitcher with control to help the rotation, they will likely have to part ways with the offensive-minded Clint Frazier.

Frazier, who was demoted to the minor league’s due to his below-average defense, has been playing well in Triple-A, however, he could be utilized as trade bait given the value he currently holds. The Yankees have been linked to several pitching options including Marcus Stroman, Madison Bumgarner, Trevor Bauer, Mike Minor and others, but the expectation is that they will require a pretty penny.

Stroman has been heavily linked to the Yanks, currently having a solid season with a 3.06 ERA. Inconsistencies throughout his career have driven down his price-tag, but the success he’s having in 2019 will force the Bombers to give up a decent player if not multiple prospects.

The elevation of reserve options like Mike Tauchman and Cameron Maybin makes Frazier irrelevant to a degree, and keeping him in the minors for the extended future is essentially just wasting away his talent. Adding a pitcher with his value could be worth more to the current team that Frazier’s influence down the road.

Prior to being designated for assignment, Clint was hitting .283 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs on the season. He also recorded three errors and had a fielding percentage of .950. In the event that the Yanks trade Frazier, the importance of Tauchman instantly increases. He’s been on a hot streak as of late and will be a frequent flyer on the starting team. His success helps justify trading Frazier at the end of the day.

New York Yankees: 2 players that should be off limits in pitcher trade

New York Yankees, Clint Frazier

The New York Yankees have been rumored to be all-in on finding a starting pitcher to add to the rotation before the July 31 trade deadline. Options such as Marcus Stroman, Madison Bumgarner, Tyler Bauer, and more have littered the headlines in a potential deal.

The Yankees, however, have sat idly by while the media progresses forward in what already seems to be a “guarantee,” according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic. If a deal is to develop, there should be some ground rules, starting with two prospects that need to be off-limits.

Teams know the Yankees are looking for reinforcements, so they will attempt to extract the most value, which could include players like Clint Frazier, Deivi Garcia, and Estevan Florial.

While some might be willing to talk with Florial included, he’s the Yankees’ top-ranked prospect and has the potential to be the future in the outfield. Injuries have blanketed the optimism and progression he’s experienced, unfortunately. This doesn’t mean his career is over, but a broken wrist certainly doesn’t help in his journey to the big leagues.

Nonetheless, he’s a five-tool player that can not only hit and field but run the bases extremely well and put a game on its heels. Upon his return, he hit .231/.284/.362.645, with four homers and 17 RBIs in 33 games, mostly at center field. He’s gaining speed and looking like his former self again, so the Yanks should save themselves the trouble of utilizing him as trade bait.

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622326″ order=”desc”]

Garcia, one of the best up and coming prospects, must also be included with Florial in the pot. Averaging 93 MPH fastballs and showing simply incredible break on his curve at 20 years old should make him untouchable. He’s the youngest player in the Yankees’ minor-league system to play at AAA-ball.

The only real trade bait the Bombers should look to prop is Frazier, who’s an elite offensive player but a well-below average defender. His confidence is the driving force behind him, which sees him come off as arrogant at times. The truth is, he’s a special talent that needs a bit more time to develop. We can imagine Yankees don’t necessarily ‘want’ to trade Frazier, but of the three, he’s the most likely to hit the road.

New York Yankees pitching trade target getting mad about speculation

Could the New York Yankees pursue MAdison Bumgarner?

Could the New York Yankees still be interested in prying Madison Bumgarner away from the San Francisco Giants?

While the rumor mill is still in full effect, the New York Yankees are still prowling the streets for a starting pitcher, and general manager Brian Cashman knows his team may need support at some point.

The question is – what’s he willing to spend to bring in a bonafide starter? Clint Frazier, prospects, cash considerations…there are plenty of routes he can take, but his team currently has the best record in baseball and isn’t dying for more support.

However, it wouldn’t hurt to bring in another option given injuries kick in again (knock on wood). One player that has been included in the rumors has been starer for the San Francisco Giants, Madison Bumgarner, a quality option that would immensely help the rotation.

[instagram-feed]

Recently against the Mets, Bumgarner allowed just one run, five hits, and a walk over nine innings to secure a 3-2 win over New York. Does this type of performance give the Yanks all they need to make a run at him? He clearly wants nothing to do with the speculation, stating:

“I don’t give a s—,” he said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I’m here to win games for this team, and that’s what we’re doing.”

“I’m trying to win games for the Giants,” he said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “We’re trying to make it to the postseason. We’re making a push, we’re coming.”

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622326″ order=”desc”]

With what might have been his final home game with the Giants, Bumgarner dominated in classic fashion. His worth would likely require Frazier’s talent to pry him away from San Fran.

The 29-year-old would help the Yanks in their pennant chase, and he might even be the catalyst in really separating themselves in the AL East. Over 125 innings this season, Madison had logged a 3.65 ERA with 127 strikeouts and a 5-7 record. With the Yankees run-support, he could theoretically emerge as their ace by the end of the season.

It’s certainly worth knocking on the Giants’ door to show interest in the pitcher.

New York Yankees: How has Clint Frazier been doing?

New York Yankees, Clint Frazier

Ever since the New York Yankees controversially demoted Clint Frazier to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he has batted just .231 with two home runs. He is slugging .396 with just a .276 on-base percentage. With his short time in the majors, Frazier batted .283 with 11 home runs while slugging .513 and a .330 on-base percentage (Baseball Reference). Did the demotion to Triple-A hurt the young slugger’s confidence?

Following the news of Frazier’s demotion on June 16th, he met with media saying, “Yeah, pretty surprised,” Frazier said, adding, “It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s never fun especially with how much I’ve felt like I’ve contributed to this team this year.”

It is apparent that the young slugger is not playing the way he usually does down in the minors. He is batting .158 over his last ten games. Until last night, Frazier had gone 90 at-bats without hitting a home run.

Frazier’s future with the Yankees

General manager Brian Cashman has made it clear that the club intends to add at the trade deadline. They could be targeting Madison Bumgarner, Marcus Stroman, Noah Syndergaard, or someone else. Among other Yankee prospects, Clint Frazier has been the hot topic in trade rumors for the Bombers. An MLB scout ranked 10 Yankee prospects and Clint Frazier landed himself at #2 on the list. Other teams would definitely be interested in acquiring Clint Frazier, as he gives youth and a strong bat in a full-time role.

I personally believe if the Yankees are truly intending to add a starting pitcher at the deadline, Clint Frazier will be traded away. Emotionally, this hurts. Logically, it all makes sense. The Yankees already have so much outfield depth, having a 6th or 7th outfielder won’t do the team any good.

New York Yankees: Has Miguel Andujar become a trading piece?

New York Yankees, Miguel Andujar

The current New York Yankees team has proved to be one of the most resilient and exciting in baseball, especially with the emergence of Gio Urshela at third base and DJ LeMahieu as a rotational infielder.

One question that crosses my mind — is Miguel Andujar expendable now after they’ve found answers in the infield? There are two sides to the argument.

Does Yankees’ Miguel Andujar’s defense make him a liability?

The Yankees’ youthful third baseman had a fantastic rookie campaign at the plate, hitting .297 with 27 homers and 92 RBIs. His fantastic offensive production immediately made him the expected starter for the future at the hot corner for the Bombers, however, his defensive issues have presented a dilemma.

Are the Yanks better off trading Andujar for a starting pitcher? Or should they hang tight and see where his future takes them?

He tallied three errors in four games earlier this year before being transferred to the 60-day injured list with season-ending shoulder surgery. The fact is, his value is at an all-time low, but he’s in a similar situation to Clint Frazier. Both are offensively solid but struggle on the defensive side. The difference being, Frazier has more of an attitude and privileged mentality compared to Andujar who seems to be a true Yankee.

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622552″ order=”desc”]

I see the Yankees sticking with their young gun for the future, considering Urshela is a one-year wonder at this point — as a career .227 hitter currently batting .303 on the season, probability-wise, he’s not going to enjoy this success in future years. Keeping him around, though, isn’t a bad idea.

Andujar will need some time to recover and catch up to his former self. At this point, it seems destined that he will remain a Yankees for the foreseeable future based on his potential and likeness in the club-house. LeMahieu, who’s been solid at third base when Urshela is off, is a far better second-baseman – his natural position. There’s no need to test the waters with inexperience when continuing to develop Andujar is an option on the table.

New York Yankees: Stanton Out For Significant Time Again

When talking to the media after the initial injury, New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone said that Giancarlo Stanton was day-to-day with a knee sprain. A day later, Stanton went on the IL. A day after that, we heard that Stanton will be out for a month and some.

The impact

Taking Stanton out of the lineup takes away a lot of power, and it forces Aaron Judge to have to step up more. He’s fresh off the IL and there’s no better time than now to get hot.

For the meantime, the Yankees have recalled Mike Tauchman for the London Series against the Red Sox. With odd field dimensions, 330 feet down the lines and 385 feet to center, the Yankees want a better defensive outfielder for the two games.

Once the team returns to New York on Tuesday to face the Mets in Queens, it’s expected that the team will be recalling Clint Frazier for a better bat. With Gardner in left, Hicks in center, and Judge in left, Frazier will have limited defensive opportunities and will DH. Most of his opportunities would likely be in left rather than right, and Frazier has been better in left.

The Stanton injury is nothing the team can’t handle. They’ve dealt with injuries all year, and it’s just another one to get over. Once he is healthy again, the team needs to keep him healthy for the postseason.

New York Yankees looking to trade Clint Frazier – only for a controlled starter

New York Yankees, Clint Frazier

The return of New York Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton has made outfielder Clint Frazier expendable, despite his impressive offensive production this season. His defense, however, has been the caveat in the story.

The Yankees have only been able to use the quick bat as a DH due to his issues in the field, and trading for slugger Edwin Encarnacion has made Frazier useless unless he’s considered a trading piece.

The reality is, Frazier will only be traded if a starting pitcher is involved, but I’m not convinced general manager Brian Cashman fully believes the Bombers need one. It’s possible the ride out the injury bug just as they did with the hitters, pulling up reserve options to fill the holes.

Pitching is different, though, it’s much harder to supplement good pitching than adequate hitting. That’s where the value from Frazier comes from and why it’s very possible he is traded this season.

The New York Yankees know what they want in a Clint Frazier trade scenario:

According to Ken Rosenthal on Fox twitter, the Yankees won’t deal Frazier unless they get a starting pitcher with at least two seasons of control.

With four-years of control on Frazier, the Yankees aren’t looking for a rental like Madison Bumgarner. They want an option that can produce over the next few seasons. A potential deal would factor in the potential of Frazier over the four-years of team control.

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622326″ order=”desc”]

He’s already showed he can be an everyday hitter in the lineup, but it will be his defense that needs to improve. If he can solve that issue, there’s no doubt he can be an everyday outfielder for a different team, which is what the premise of the deal is and why his value is so high.

Gaining a starting pitcher for his talents and minor-league prospect or two makes sense, but the return would have to be an impact player that can start right away and isn’t injury prone.

New York Yankees: Is it time to say goodbye to Clint Frazier?

New York Yankees, Clint Frazier

Clint Frazier has been a fixture in the New York Yankees organization since the Andrew Miller trade in 2016. The Yankees acquired him and Gleyber Torres in what was a complete liquidation of their veteran assets. Torres has evidently been phenomenal in the majors but the same can’t be said about his counterpart.

You’re probably thinking what the hell Dylan, Clint has been great this year. Don’t get me wrong, he has been phenomenal at the plate and I truly love watching him play. However, he made costly defensive miscues and was a headache with the media. Not only that, but with a logjam in the Yankees outfield currently with Stanton and Judge returning, it’s difficult to find him consistent playing time in the majors, and it may always be difficult.

It feels as though this time last year the same sentiment was being repeated. For now, Gardner, Stanton, Hicks, and Judge are in the outfield but it will all work itself out and Clint will find playing time.

The fact is, it may never work itself out fully.

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622326″ order=”desc”]

Estevan Florial is only one and a half to two years out from being majors ready and the Yankees just committed to Aaron Hicks long term this past offseason.

Another factor is that Clint only has the rest of this season and next season with options remaining, so essentially he needs to carve himself a spot on the big league team by next season or else things will get tricky.

The simple observation shows you that Clint has had a great year behind the plate that has canceled out his other mistakes, his stock is at a point it may never reach again.

Now is the time to jump on trading him to another squad. It’s not only the best move for New York but it’s the best move for Clint. The ideal situation would be to flip Clint and be able to find the missing piece to win the 28th ring. The ideal situation for both sides is to say goodbye to “Red Thunder”.

New York Yankees: Clint Frazier is surely on his way out

New York Yankees, Clint Frazier

With the impending return of Aaron Judge and the magnificent play of Cameron Maybin offensively and defensively, the New York Yankees are in a great spot. So good, in fact, Clint Frazier has become expendable after hitting .283 over 191 at-bats this season, helping the Yankees to a 46-27 record despite a bad case of the injury bug.

Now, with the starting pitching rotation in shambles, Frazier has become a trading piece, being sent down to the Triple-A to ride out the remaining days of his Yankee career.

However, Yankees principal owner, Hal Steinbrenner stated:

“I think he’s got a great career ahead of him,” Hal Steinbrenner said Wednesday at the MLB owners’ meetings in Midtown. “He’s got a lot of talent. … He’ll be a big part of this team going forward. He certainly has the capability of doing that.”

While his vote of confidence might indicate he’s not on the trading block, the Bombers recently traded for slugger Edwin Encarnacion, which supplants Frazier’s spot in the lineup and puts one more talented option in front of him that he must overtake for the starting job.

[su_posts template=”templates/teaser-loop.php” posts_per_page=”3″ tax_term=”1622326″ order=”desc”]

New York Yankees: Clint Frazier needs to improve drastically on defense

Clint’s lack of defensive efficiency has hurt him badly this season, making him a glorified designated hitter, but with the Yankees’ home run-centric mindset, Encarnacion fits the bill much better. That’s why Frazier is certainly on his way out – despite him having a solid hitting streak this year — his defense is so poor that there really isn’t a spot on the team for him unless multiple players pick up injuries.

Now is the best time to utilize his value in the open market and bring in a starting pitcher that can help immediately. With Luis Severino months away from a return and Domingo German on the injured list, adding an option like Mets’ Zack Wheeler or Noah Syndergaard would be perfect. Frazier would headline a potential deal on the Yankees side.
