Heading into Sunday’s matchup Price was holding onto a 6.15 career ERA against the New York Yankees. Price’s ERA against the Yanks will only keep increasing after his outing Sunday night. Price now holds a 9.61 ERA at Yankee Stadium since 2016, per Katie Sharp. He allowed seven earned runs on five hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Allowing two bombs to Aaron Judge (389 feet) and Gio Urshela (437 feet), Price just looked hopeless facing the Yankee lineup.

David Price is one of the best things to ever happen to the Yankees. It seems that every time he takes the mound against the Bombers, he lets them walk all over him. Yankee fans seem to enjoy seeing his name on the scorecard as well:

The New York Yankees are savages. They took Boston ace Chris Sale through 3.2 innings before he threw a fit on the mound and was ejected due to his theatrics. Red Sox manager Alex Cora was thrown out of the game before Sale, where it looked like Cora was giving the home plate umpire an ear-full about balls and strikes.

As Sale was removed from the game, he walked off the mound while screaming at the umpire. It was clear that he was upset about balls and strikes as well because of his reactions after pitch calls. Sale allowed eight earned runs on nine hits through 3.2 innings pitched.

Sale is credited to a 4.26 ERA and a 5-11 record, nowhere close to the dominant season he had last year. He currently holds a 9.90 ERA against the Yankees this season where he’s allowed four home runs on 19 hits in three games (Baseball Reference). In 4 games started against the Bombers, he is winless.

DJ Lehmahieu is Chris Sale’s worst nightmare. LeMahieu hit two home runs today and it seemed like Sale had no idea what to throw him. LeMahieu’s inside-out swing allows him to take Sale’s whacky delivery to the other side of the field. We saw this today with his second home run into the short porch.

The Yankees are currently 9-4 against the Red Sox. Both teams have scored the same amount of runs (82) however the Yankees are still atop them comfortably. This is huge as the run for the division is almost impossible for them to take it away from the Yanks.

Yes, the New York Yankees have not shown much promise recently. The rotation holds a 15.61 ERA in the last seven games and apposing batting average has almost doubled compared to the first 14 games in July. However, fans must remember the Yankees are 66-38, being eight games ahead of Boston and 8.5 against of Tampa. They are 28 games above .500 and are currently in first place for the AL East.

The team hasn’t been swinging it too bad either. The Bombers are batting a team .330 average in the last seven games. Didi Gregorius and Mike Tauchman are both batting over .400 in those last seven. Both those guys have 10+ hits in their last 22 and 23 at-bats.

As much as these numbers are satisfying to read, this twitter post said it best:

The last three games against Boston have been brutal. It’s been hard to watch but fans have to remember the Yankees are 6-4 against Boston this year, with already one series swept against them. I believe this is nothing short of a slump in the rotation just having bad timing.

Many reports have confirmed that general manager Brian Cashman is in contact with many teams to add before the July 31 trade deadline. The need for a consistent quality starting pitcher is apparent and I believe the Yankees will make a move. Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays and Trevor Bauer from the Cleveland Indians have been the most talked about in Yankee trade rumors.

Other positive news, ace Luis Severino and Dellin Betances are showing promise for a return from their injuries during August.
